    Structure-activity correlations for organophosphorus ester anticholinesterases. Part 2: CNDO/2 calculations applied to ester hydrolysis rates

    Quantitative structure-activity relationships are presented for the hydrolysis of organophosphorus esters, RR'P(O)X, where R and R' are alkyl and/or alkoxy groups and X is fluorine, chlorine or a phenoxy group. CNDO/2 calculations provide values for molecular parameters that correlate with alkaline hydrolysis rates. For each subset of esters with the same leaving group, X, the CNDO-derived net atomic charge at the central phosphorus atom correlates well with the alkaline hydrolysis rate constants. For the whole set of esters with different leaving groups, equations are derived that relate charge, orbital energy and bond order to the hydrolysis rate constants

    Nomenclature for renal replacement therapy and blood purification techniques in critically ill patients: practical applications

    This article reports the conclusions of the second part of a consensus expert conference on the nomenclature of renal replacement therapy (RRT) techniques currently utilized to manage acute kidney injury and other organ dysfunction syndromes in critically ill patients. A multidisciplinary approach was taken to achieve harmonization of definitions, components, techniques, and operations of the extracorporeal therapies. The article describes the RRT techniques in detail with the relevant technology, procedures, and phases of treatment and key aspects of volume management/fluid balance in critically ill patients. In addition, the article describes recent developments in other extracorporeal therapies, including therapeutic plasma exchange, multiple organ support therapy, liver support, lung support, and blood purification in sepsis. This is a consensus report on nomenclature harmonization in extracorporeal blood purification therapies, such as hemofiltration, plasma exchange, multiple organ support therapies, and blood purification in sepsis

    PREFACE The lectures in this volume were delivered in the auditorium of Abilene Christian College during the last week of February in 1924 and 1925. Not all of the lectures delivered during these two weeks are given here, some of those delivering lectures not having responded with their manuscripts. These are given to the public in the belief that the splendid sermons delivered here ought to be read by thousands of Christians who did not have the opportunity of hearing them. Many of those who heard them will desire to read them. May this contribution to the literature of Christian teaching from the minds of some of our best and most faithful laborers in the Master’s vineyard be a continued blessing to all whose lives they touch. BATSELL BAXTER. __________________ PUBLISHER’S ANNOUNCEMENT This volume of Abilene Christian College Lectures is the fourth and comprises the lectures for February 1924 and 1925. The lectures for 1919 were published in one volume, 1920 and 1921 were combined in one volume, as were also the lectures for 1922 and 1923. By putting the lectures for two years in one volume, the reader is saved the expense of an additional book in order to receive the full benefit of these lectures. That these discourses are of great value is recognized by thousands who have heard them orally or have read them on the printed page. Such carefully prepared addresses really and truly merit a permanent place in the literature of the brotherhood of the churches of Christ. They are filled with expositions and analyses of much benefit to younger brethren who are entering upon lines of public service for the church, and they contain instruction on the word of God that is of much value to those out of the church as well as those in the church. The four books comprising the Abilene Christian College Lectures will make a most valuable addition to all libraries. We are at this time, January, 1926, in position to furnish complete sets or any volume to complete any broken set that any of our readers may have. When our present supply is gone, the books will probably not be reprinted as no plates have been made, and the books will be scarce. The messages of hope and love contained in this volume will find their place into the homes of many thousands, and it is to be ardently hoped that they will be read attentively and that they may contribute much to the extension of the power and kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.     Sustainability non-price incentives and rewards: a collaborative procurement perspective

    Construction scholars suggest that procurement processes can be used as mechanisms to change construction industry practices. This paper discusses industry changes as a response to the calls for integration of sustainability ideals into construction practices. Because major infrastructure construction has been identified as a key producer of greenhouse gas emissions (GHGE), this study explores collaborative procurement models that have been used to facilitate mitigation of GHGE. The study focuses on the application of non-price incentives and rewards that work together as a binary mechanism. Data were collected using mixed-methods: government document content analysis was complemented with data collected through focus groups and individual interviews with both clients and contractors. This report includes examples of greening procurement agendas for three Australian road authorities relating to collaborative procurement project delivery models. Three collaborative procurement models, Alliance Consortium, Early Contractor Involvement and Public Private Partnerships provide evidence of construction projects that were completed early. It can also be argued that both clients and contractors are rewarded through collaborative project delivery. The incentive of early completion is rewarded with reduction of GHGE. This positive environmental outcome, based on a dual benefit and non-price sustainability criteria, suggests a step towards changed industry practices though the use of green procurement models

    The impact of obesity on minimally invasive colorectal surgery: A report from the Surgical Care Outcomes Assessment Program collaborative.

    BACKGROUND: Operating on obese patients can increase case complexity and result in worse outcomes. We described the incremental impact of BMI on morbidity and outcomes of colorectal operations and whether laparoscopic and robotic(MIS) approaches mitigate this morbidity differently. METHODS: A retrospective cohort of patients undergoing elective colorectal operations in SCOAP was created to examine the association of increasing BMI on surgical outcomes. Additionally, multivariable logistic regression models were constructed. RESULTS: From 2011 to 2019, 22,863 elective colorectal operations (mean age 62, 55% female) were performed at 42 hospitals. Patients had BMI≥30 in 7576(33%) and BMI≥40 in 1180(5%) of operations. After risk adjustment, BMI≥40 was associated with increased conversions(OR1.57,95%CI1.26-1.96), increased combined adverse events(CAE)(OR1.32,95%CI1.15-1.52), and death(OR2.24, 95%CI1.41-3.55)(all p \u3c 0.01). MIS approaches were each associated with lower CAE(lap OR0.49,95%CI0.46-0.53; robot OR0.42,95%CI0.37-0.47), and death(lap OR0.24,95%CI0.18-0.33; robot OR0.18,95%CI0.10-0.35)(all p \u3c 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Severe obesity is associated with increased conversion rates and worse short-term outcomes after colorectal surgery, though this trend is partially mitigated with a minimally invasive approach. These findings support the broad application of MIS for colorectal operations in obese patients
