Investigating the Effect of Parenting Type on Self-esteem and Perfectionism with the Mediating Role of Character Strengths on Adolescents with Anxiety Disorders
Background: Anxiety disorders are prevalent mental disorders that typically emerge during the early stages of one\u27s life, with over 50% of occurrences happening before the age of 18. This study aimed to examine how different parenting styles impact the self-esteem and perfectionistic tendencies of adolescents dealing with anxiety disorders, while also considering the mediating influence of character strengths.
Methods: This study is a combination of descriptive-correlational research and cross-sectional research methods, with the utilization of structural equation modeling (SEM). The statistical population for this study consisted of all teenagers (both boys and girls) in Tehran who were diagnosed with anxiety disorders during the period from July to October 2023. The statistical sample for this study consisted of 122 teenagers with anxiety disorders who were chosen through purposive sampling. The research instruments utilized were the Coopersmith Self-esteem Inventory (SEI), the Positive and Negative Perfectionism scale (PANPS), Baumrind\u27s Parenting Styles Questionnaire (PSQ), and the Values In Action Inventory of Strengths (VIA-IS). The research data was analyzed using SPSS version 27 software, while the path between variables was analyzed using SmartPLS version 4 software. The significant level was set at 0.05.
Results: Findings indicate that there was no significant relationship between authoritarian parenting and negative perfectionism, positive perfectionism, and self-esteem when considering the mediating role of character strengths (P-value>0.05). On the other hand, there was a positive and significant relationship between authoritative parenting and positive perfectionism, as well as self-esteem, when considering the mediating role of character strengths (P-value<0.001).
Conclusions: The findings of the current investigation indicate that each of the three parenting styles contributes to the development of negative perfectionism. Additionally, the factor of personality strengths promotes self-confidence and positive perfectionism, while reducing negative perfectionism in teenagers. The outcomes of this study also emphasize the significant role of character strength as a mediating variable
Keyphrase Generation: A Multi-Aspect Survey
Extractive keyphrase generation research has been around since the nineties,
but the more advanced abstractive approach based on the encoder-decoder
framework and sequence-to-sequence learning has been explored only recently. In
fact, more than a dozen of abstractive methods have been proposed in the last
three years, producing meaningful keyphrases and achieving state-of-the-art
scores. In this survey, we examine various aspects of the extractive keyphrase
generation methods and focus mostly on the more recent abstractive methods that
are based on neural networks. We pay particular attention to the mechanisms
that have driven the perfection of the later. A huge collection of scientific
article metadata and the corresponding keyphrases is created and released for
the research community. We also present various keyphrase generation and text
summarization research patterns and trends of the last two decades.Comment: 10 pages, 5 tables. Published in proceedings of FRUCT 2019, the 25th

Addressing Challenges of Modern News Agencies via Predictive Modeling, Deep Learning, and Transfer Learning
Today's news agencies are moving from traditional journalism, where publishing just a few news articles per day was sufficient, to modern content generation mechanisms, which create more than thousands of news pieces every day.
With the growth of these modern news agencies comes the arduous task of properly handling this massive amount of data that is generated for each news article.
Therefore, news agencies are constantly seeking solutions to facilitate and automate some of the tasks that have been previously done by humans.
In this dissertation, we focus on some of these problems and provide solutions for two broad problems which help a news agency to not only have a wider view of the behaviour of readers around the article but also to provide an automated tools to ease the job of editors in summarizing news articles.
These two disjoint problems are aiming at improving the users' reading experience by helping the content generator to monitor and focus on poorly performing content while allow them to promote the good-performing ones.
We first focus on the task of popularity prediction of news articles via a combination of regression, classification, and clustering models.
We next focus on the problem of generating automated text summaries for a long news article using deep learning models.
The first problem aims at helping the content developer in understanding of how a news article is performing over the long run while the second problem provides automated tools for the content developers to generate summaries for each news article.Doctor of PhilosophyNowadays, each person is exposed to an immense amount of information from social media, blog posts, and online news portals. Among these sources, news agencies are one of the main content providers for each person around the world. Contemporary news agencies are moving from traditional journalism to modern techniques from different angles. This is achieved either by building smart tools to track the behaviour of readers’ reaction around a specific news article or providing automated tools to facilitate the editor’s job in providing higher quality content to readers. These systems should not only be able to scale well with the growth of readers but also they have to be able to process ad-hoc requests, precisely since most of the policies and decisions in these agencies are taken around the result of these analytical tools. As part of this new movement towards adapting new technologies for smart journalism, we have worked on various problems with The Washington Post news agency on building tools for predicting the popularity of a news article and automated text summarization model. We develop a model that monitors each news article after its publication and provide prediction over the number of views that this article will receive within the next 24 hours. This model will help the content creator to not only promote potential viral article in the main page of the web portal or social media, but also provide intuition for editors on potential poorly performing articles so that they can edit the content of those articles for better exposure. On the other hand, current news agencies are generating more than a thousands news articles per day and generating three to four summary sentences for each of these news pieces not only become infeasible in the near future but also very expensive and time-consuming. Therefore, we also develop a separate model for automated text summarization which generates summary sentences for a news article. Our model will generate summaries by selecting the most salient sentence in the news article and paraphrase them to shorter sentences that could represent as a summary sentence for the entire document
Effects of pruning intensity on vitality of Pinus eldarica plantation at west Tehran
This research was carried out in Chitgar Forest Park, located in west of Tehran with an area of 1450 hectars. For determining the effects of pruning on vitality of Pinus eldarica Medw. under water stress, pruning trial was done under Completely Randomized Block design with four Treatments (sever, moderate, light, control) and four replicates. The Replicates were selected on four sites with different ecological conditions and maintenance managements. The definition of the prunning treatments were as follows: 1- Severe: All of the branches were prunned from crown bottom up to two meters. 2-Moderate: All of the branches were prunned from crown bottom up to one meter. 3-Light: Only the dried, infected and less than two cm diameter branches were prunned. 4-Control: Without pruning , except the dried branches at the low level of the crown. Inventory has been done at two times, before prunning and one year after prunning. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS software. The results show that prunning the effects of the treatments and the replicates on trees vitality were significant at 0.05 level. The sever prunning had the greatest effect on vitality when water stress was very high and soil productivity was very low. Light prunning had the most effect on vitality in fertile sites with regular irrigation, but the moderate prunning had the most effect on pine vitality in seme-fertile site under moderate water stress
Effects of rain storage method and irrigation interval on growth and primary establishment of Prosopis cineraria and Ziziphus spina-christi at south of Baluchestan
In order to determine the most suitable water storage method and irrigation interval level on growth and primary establishment of Prosopis cineraria and Ziziphus spina-christi, a trial was conducted under split plots experimental design based on randomized complete blocks, with four replications at Dashtyari territory of Chabahar township (south of Sistan and Baluchestan province of I.R. Iran) for five year period to support reforestation projects. The main factor was water storage method at two levels (turkey nest and terrestrial dam) and the sub factor was irrigation interval with three levels (10, 20 and 30 days). The terrestrial dam and irrigation interval treatments were chosen as control due to local conventional conditions. Results showed that the 10 day irrigation interval was the most suitable treatment for the species establishment and it increased the seedlings survival, growth and establishment significantly. Survival and establishment of P. cineraria was significantly greater than Z. spina christii. Effects of turkey nest and terrestrial dam on survival and species characteristics were often not significant, whereas effects of terrestrial dam on the species vegetative characteristics and establishment were greater than the other treatment
