    A Schwinger term in q-deformed su(2) algebra

    Get PDF
An extra term generally appears in the q-deformed su(2)su(2) algebra for the deformation parameter q=exp2πiθq = \exp{ 2 \pi i\theta}, if one combines the Biedenharn-Macfarlane construction of q-deformed su(2)su(2), which is a generalization of Schwinger's construction of conventional su(2)su(2), with the representation of the q-deformed oscillator algebra which is manifestly free of negative norm. This extra term introduced by the requirement of positive norm is analogous to the Schwinger term in current algebra. Implications of this extra term on the Bloch electron problem analyzed by Wiegmann and Zabrodin are briefly discussed.Comment: 9 pages. A couple of clarifying comments have been added. Accelerated Quark and Holography for Confining Gauge theory

We show a constantly accelerated quark as a string solution of the Nambu-Goto action, which is embedded in the bulk background dual to the N\cal{N} =2=2 supersymmetric confining Yang-Mills theory. The induced metric of the world sheet for this string solution has an event horizon specified by the fifth coordinate. By an extended Rindler transformation proposed by Xiao, we move to the comoving frame of the accelerated quark-string. Then we find that this horizon is transferred to the event horizon of the bulk and the causal part of the accelerated quark is transformed to a static free-quark in the Rindler coordinate. As a result, the confinement of the Minkowski vacuum is lost in the Rindler vacuum. This point is assured also by studying the potential between the quark and anti-quark. However, the remnants of the original confining force are seen in various thermal quantities. We also discuss the consistency of our results and the claim that the Green's functions will not be changed by the Rindler transformation.Comment: 25 pages, 7 figure

An extended q-deformed su(2) algebra and the Bloch electron problem

    Get PDF
It is shown that an extended q-deformed su(2)su(2) algebra with an extra (``Schwinger '') term can describe Bloch electrons in a uniform magnetic field with an additional periodic potential. This is a generalization of the analysis of Bloch electrons by Wiegmann and Zabrodin. By using a representation theory of this q-deformed algebra, we obtain functional Bethe ansatz equations whose solutions should be functions of finite degree. It is also shown that the zero energy solution is expressed in terms of an Askey Wilson polynomial.Comment: 11 pages, Late

Downsian Positions of Parties and Districts from the Numbers of Votes with Examples of Japanese Congressional Elections 1983 - 2004

This paper proposes, under assumptions of sincere voters with some additional conditions, to calculate the positions of parties and districts by “solving” a system of equations whose left hand sides are theoretical predictions and theright hand sides are the actual numbers of votes gained by the parties in the districts. The positions of parties and prefectures are calculated for the seats for the proportional representation in the Japanese congressional elections 1983 – 2004. The result reveals that the competition in these elections was not between the right and the left, but between the urban and the rural
