Systematic X-ray Analysis of Radio Relic Clusters with SUZAKU
We perform a systematic X-ray analysis of six giant radio relics in four
clusters of galaxies using the Suzaku satellite. The sample includes CIZA
2242.8-5301, Zwcl 2341.1-0000, the South-East part of Abell 3667 and previously
published results of the North-West part of Abell 3667 and Abell 3376.
Especially we first observed the narrow (50 kpc) relic of CIZA 2242.8-5301 by
Suzaku satellite, which enable us to reduce the projection effect. We report
X-ray detections of shocks at the position of the relics in CIZA2242.8-5301 and
Abell 3667 SE. At the position of the two relics in ZWCL2341.1-0000, we do not
detect shocks. From the spectroscopic temperature profiles across the relic, we
find that the temperature profiles exhibit significant jumps across the relics
for CIZA 2242.8-5301, Abell 3376, Abell 3667NW, and Abell 3667SE. We estimated
the Mach number from the X-ray temperature or pressure profile using the
Rankine-Hugoniot jump condition and compared it with the Mach number derived
from the radio spectral index. The resulting Mach numbers (M=1.5-3) are almost
consistent with each other, while the Mach number of CIZA2242 derived from the
X-ray data tends to be lower than that of the radio observation. These results
indicate that the giant radio relics in merging clusters are related to the
shock structure, as suggested by previous studies of individual clusters.Comment: Accepted for publication in PAS

A Case of Bilateral Adrenal and Pleural Metastases from Prostate Cancer
Our case was 65 years old. At check-up, a high PSA level of 515 ng/ml was observed, the patient was diagnosed with having clinical stage D prostate cancer and a Maximum Androgen Blockade (MAB therapy) was started. In response to the exacerbated prostate cancer, we started a therapy involving the administration of 8 mg/kg body weight of dexamethasone and 55 mg/m2 of docetaxel every 3 weeks. After completing 8 courses, an enlargement of the bilateral adrenal tumor was observed, and after completing 12 courses, a pleural tumor was discovered and the PSA level was also increased. The patient was therefore diagnosed with having bilateral adrenal metastasis and pleural metastasis of prostate cancer through diagnostic imaging. So far, there have been no reports of multiple occurrences of prostate cancer in the adrenal glands and the pleura, thus making this case the first such case

Localized turbulence structures in transitional rectangular-duct flow
Direct numerical simulations of transitional flow in a rectangular duct of cross-sectional aspect ratio A≡s/h=1–9 (s and h being the duct half-span and half-height, respectively) have been performed in the Reynolds number range Re≡ubh/ν=650–1500 (ub and ν being the bulk velocity and the kinematic viscosity, respectively) in order to investigate the dependence on the aspect ratio of spatially localized turbulence structures. It was observed that the lowest Reynolds number ReT, estimated in a specific way, for localized (transiently sustaining) turbulence decreases monotonically from ReT=730 for A=1 (square duct) with increasing aspect ratio, and for A=5 it nearly attains a minimal value ReT≈670 that is consistent with the onset Reynolds number of turbulent spots in a plane channel (A=∞). Turbulent states consist of localized structures that undergo a fundamental change around A=4. At Re=ReT turbulence for A=1–3 is streamwise-localized similar to turbulent puffs in pipe flow, while for A=5–9 turbulence at Re=ReT is also localized in the spanwise direction, similar to turbulent spots in plane channel flow. This structural change in turbulent states at Re=ReT is attributed to the exclusion of turbulence from the vicinity of the duct sidewalls in the case of a wide duct with A≳4: here the friction length on the sidewalls is so long that the size (around 100 times the friction length) of a self-sustaining minimal flow unit of streamwise vortices and streaks is larger than the duct height and, therefore, it cannot be accommodated
Encrusted Ureteral Stent Retrieval Using Flexible Ureteroscopy with a Ho: YAG Laser
A 23-year-old female had bilateral ureteral stents placed due to bilateral renal stones
and hydronephrosis. The bilateral ureteral stents were changed every 3 months. A
kidney ureter bladder (KUB) film showed left encrustation along the ureteral stent thus
necessitating removal; however, the ureteral stent could not be removed cystoscopically.
The ureteral stent was, therefore, extracted using flexible ureteroscopy (URS) with a
holmium (Ho): yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) laser
選択的セロトニン再取り込み阻害薬とセロトニン4受容体作動薬の直腸吻合部におけるインビボ神経再建に与える効果の比較
It was recently reported that activation of enteric neural 5-HT(4) receptors (SR4) promotes reconstruction of enteric neural circuit injury in distal gut of guinea pigs and that this reconstruction involves neural stem cells. We aimed to explore a novel approach using a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), which increases endogenous 5-HT, to repair enteric nerve fiber injury in the rat distal gut. Enteric nerve fiber injury was performed by rectal transection and subsequent end-to-end one-layer anastomosis. The SSRI fluvoxamine maleate (100 μmol/l) was applied locally at the anastomotic site to compare with the 5-HT(4) agonist mosapride citrate (100 μmol/l) (applied for patent) applied locally and orally. Unlike mosapride, fluvoxamine failed to promote the regeneration of the nerve fiber tract across the anastomosis. Furthermore, fluvoxamine did not generate anti-distal-less homeobox 2 (DLX2)- and anti-SR4-positive cells (neural stem cells) and/or anti-neurofilament (NF)-positive cells (neural cells) in newly formed granulation tissue at the anastomosis, whereas these cell types were observed in mosapride-treated preparations. In contrast to its effects in guinea pigs, mosapride generated 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (BrdU)-positive neural cells in ganglia sites 3 mm oral and anal from the anastomosis 2 wk after nerve fiber injury. All actions of mosapride were observed after local and or oral applications. These findings indicate that local SSRI treatment does not induce in vivo nerve fiber tract growth across the anastomosis in the rat distal gut. Mosapride induces nerve fiber tract growth across the anastomosis, mediated through enteric neural stem cells possibly from neural crest-derived stem cells or mesenchymal stem cells in the bone marrow.博士(医学)・甲616号・平成26年3月17日発行元の規定により、本文の登録不可。本文は以下のURLを参照 "http://dx.doi.org/10.1152/ajpgi.00284.2011
Suzaku and Chandra observations of the galaxy cluster RXC J1053.7+5453 with a radio relic
We present the results of Suzaku and Chandra observations of the galaxy
cluster RXC J1053.7+5453 (), which contains a radio relic. The radio
relic is located at the distance of kpc from the X-ray peak toward
the west. We measured the temperature of this cluster for the first time. The
resultant temperature in the center is keV, which is lower than the
value expected from the X-ray luminosity - temperature and the velocity
dispersion - temperature relation. Though we did not find a significant
temperature jump at the outer edge of the relic, our results suggest that the
temperature decreases outward across the relic. Assuming the existence of the
shock at the relic, its Mach number becomes . A possible spatial
variation of Mach number along the relic is suggested. Additionally, a sharp
surface brightness edge is found at the distance of kpc from the
X-ray peak toward the west in the Chandra image. We performed X-ray spectral
and surface brightness analyses around the edge with Suzaku and Chandra data,
respectively. The obtained surface brightness and temperature profiles suggest
that this edge is not a shock but likely a cold front. Alternatively, it cannot
be ruled out that thermal pressure is really discontinuous across the edge. In
this case, if the pressure across the surface brightness edge is in
equilibrium, other forms of pressure sources, such as cosmic-rays, are
necessary. We searched for the non-thermal inverse Compton component in the
relic region. Assuming the photon index , the resultant upper
limit of the flux is for
area in the 0.3-10 keV band, which
implies that the lower limit of magnetic field strength becomes $ 0.7 {\rm \
\mu G}$.Comment: 13page, 8 figures, accepted for publication in PASJ. arXiv admin
