A Rare Case of Gorlin-Goltz Syndrome Presented to the Emergency Department as Facial Swelling
Introduction: Gorlin-Goltz syndrome (GGS), also known as basal cell nevus syndrome, is a very rare autosomal dominant inherited disorder that is characterized by the development of numerous basal cell carcinoma. This article reports a case of GGS, emphasizing its clinical and radiographic manifestations. Case presentation: We report here the case of a 35-year-old man who visited the maxillofacial emergency department due to left facial swelling. According to his clinical and radiographic examination we diagnosed him with GGS with no family history. The patient has multiple odontogenic keratocysts, rib anomalies, calcifications of the falx cerebri, lower jaw prognathism, frontal bossing, macrocephaly, and thick eyebrows. Conclusion: A definitive diagnosis of GGS should be made by a multidisciplinary team including a maxillofacial surgeon and medical specialists. Early diagnosis, treatment, and regular follow up are important to decrease complications, including oromaxillofacial deformation and destruction, and possible malignancy

Moist synoptic transport of CO2 along the mid-latitude storm track
Author Posting. © American Geophysical Union, 2011. This article is posted here by permission of American Geophysical Union for personal use, not for redistribution. The definitive version was published in Geophysical Research Letters 38 (2011): L09804, doi:10.1029/2011GL047238.Atmospheric mixing ratios of CO2 are strongly seasonal in the Arctic due to mid-latitude transport. Here we analyze the seasonal influence of moist synoptic storms by diagnosing CO2 transport from a global model on moist isentropes (to represent parcel trajectories through stormtracks) and parsing transport into eddy and mean components. During winter when northern plants respire, warm moist air, high in CO2, is swept poleward into the polar vortex, while cold dry air, low in CO2, that had been transported into the polar vortex earlier in the year is swept equatorward. Eddies reduce seasonality in mid-latitudes by ∼50% of NEE (∼100% of fossil fuel) while amplifying seasonality at high latitudes. Transport along stormtracks is correlated with rising, moist, cloudy air, which systematically hides this CO2 transport from satellites. We recommend that (1) regional inversions carefully account for meridional transport and (2) inversion models represent moist and frontal processes with high fidelity. This research is supported by the National

THE PHARMACOLOGICAL STUDIES OF PROCYANIDINE ISOLATED FROM CRATAEGUS AZAROLUS (IRAQI ENDOGENOUS)
ABSTRACT Procyanidine was isolated and identified from fruit of Crataegus azarolus (Iraqi endogenous). In vitro and in vivo pharmacological actions of procyanidine were studied. Toxicological and histopathological studies of procyanidne on the mice indicated its safety. The LD 50 of procyanidine estimated to be about 100mg/kg. No antibacterial and antiinflammatory effects were seen with procyanidine. The antagonistic effect of procyanidine on the adenosine receptor was observed on the isolated jejunum of the rabbit. Procyanidine produced quite clear positive inotropic effect on the isolated, stimulated left atrium and papillary muscle of the rabbit, without any significant effects on the heart rate and blood pressure of experimental rats. Also procyanidine produced marked diuretic and natriuretic effects without any significant actions on the potassium excretion in the rat (16mg/kg I:V) and volunteers healthy subjects (50mg orally). The positive inotropic and diuretic actions of procynidine, most probably, are related to its antagonistic effects on the adenosine (Al) receptors. These dual (positive inotropic and diuretic) effects of procyanidine make it a good drug for the treatment of congestive heart failure
Teleparallel Versions of Friedmann and Lewis-Papapetrou Spacetimes
This paper is devoted to investigate the teleparallel versions of the
Friedmann models as well as the Lewis-Papapetrou solution. We obtain the tetrad
and the torsion fields for both the spacetimes. It is shown that the
axial-vector vanishes for the Friedmann models. We discuss the different
possibilities of the axial-vector depending on the arbitrary functions
and in the Lewis-Papapetrou metric. The vector related with spin has
also been evaluated.Comment: 13 pages, accepted for publication in GR
