D0-brane description of the charged black hole

The charged black hole is considered from the viewpoint of D0-brane in the Matrix theory. It can be obtained from the Kaluza-Klein mechanism by boosting the Schwarzschild black hole in a circle, which is the compactified one dimensional space. Especially, how the extremal limit is realized by the Boltzmann gas of D0-brane, has been shown. In the course of our discussion, the Virial theorem for the statistical average plays an important role.Comment: LaTeX file, no figure, 8 page

Toward Development of Students' Sensitivity to the Change in Climate Environment in East Asia wi th Attention to the Variety of "SeasonaI Feeling" in the Annual Cycle

To the change in the global environment, such as the Global Warming, regional climate systems will show rather different response from region to region. It is necessary for many people to be able to remark, as early as possible, what kind of regional climate change is going on, in order to mitigate the climate change itself or coming damage of the change in each region. In East Asia, the complicated seasonal variations are seen influenced by the Asian monsoon, resulting in the variety of "seasonal feeling". The present paper will discuss on the joint activity of meteorology with music, and so on, toward development of students' sensitivity to the climate change in East Asia with attention also to the "seasonal feeling". Firstly, some important viewpoints for understanding the seasonal cycle of climate systems in East Asia will be reviewed. We will also review the rapid temperature increase around the beginning of April in the Japan Islands in association with the "seasonal feel ing", together with the reports of a lecture on that topic in a primary school. Next, another lecture on the seasonal cycle in East Asia and its climate change there in the secondary school will be reported. Finally, the future joint research plan will be discussed

P-domain and lectin site are involved in the chaperone function of Saccharomyces cerevisiae calnexin homologue

AbstractCne1p, a calnexin homologue from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, has been shown to possess a conserved P-domain and lectin site as mammalian calnexin. The effect of P-domain and lectin site on the function of Cne1p was investigated in vitro using recombinant P-domain, P-domain deletion mutant of Cne1p, and lectin site mutant of Cne1ps (E181A and E398A) The binding of monoglucosylated oligosaccharide (G1M9) with Cne1p was clearly demonstrated using lectin site mutants. The P-domain deletion mutant and the letcin site mutants partially decreased the ability to suppress the aggregation of citrate synthase (CS) and chicken egg yolk immunoglobulin at levels different from Cne1p. Furthermore, the P-domain deletion mutant and the lectin site mutants decreased the ability to enhance the refolding of CS. These results suggest that the cooperation between the P-domain and the lectin site are important for the complete function of Cne1p. Thus, we conclude that P-domain in cooperation with the lectin site of Cne1p functions as a chaperone

Identification of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) in rat peripheral nerves: its possible involvement in nerve regeneration

AbstractMacrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is known as a pluripotent immunoregulatory cytokine involved in T-cell activation and inflammatory responses; however, no study on this protein in the peripheral nervous systems has been carried out. We here demonstrated for the first time expression of MIF mRNA and MIF protein in rat sciatic nerves by reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed positive staining of MIF, which was largely observed in Schwann cells. Furthermore, we examined MIF mRNA expression in the sciatic nerves by Northern blot analysis in the case of nerve transection. In both proximal and distal segments, the level of MIF mRNA started to increase 12 h after the nerve transection. The level remained high from 24 h up to day 7 after the injury. During the period from days 14 to 21, MIF mRNA sharply decreased to the pre-transection level. In immunohistochemistry, positive staining of MIF was largely observed in axons as well as non-neuronal cells in proximal segments at day 4 after transection. In the distal segments, contrastingly, endoneurial fibroblasts or Schwann cells migrating into neuronal fibers showed positive staining with Wallerian degeneration. Although the precise functions of MIF in the peripheral nerves remain to be elucidated, the present results could represent a major departure from the current state of knowledge, revealing a novel function in the degenerative–regenerative process
