Mirobriga : A Portuguese-American Project in Southern Portugal

"In 1981, the faculty of the Department of Art History and Archaeology of the University of Missouri-Columbia was invited by Dr. Caetano de Mello Beirao, Director of Antiquities for Southern Portugal, to collaborate in archaeological field work in Portugal. This was the first time that an American archaeological team was to work in Portugal. The aim of the collaboration was the investigation of a Portuguese site by modern field techniques, both to provide practical experience for young Portuguese and American archaeologists, and to generate international scholarly interest in ancient Portugal .
