Hipotonia śróddializacyjna - przyczyny i zasady leczenia
Hipotonia śróddializacyjna (HŚD) jest bardzo poważnym
problemem klinicznym chorych pozostających
w stałym leczeniu nerkozastępczym, pogarszającym
jakość ich życia i zwiększającym śmiertelność
w tej populacji. Hipotonia śróddializacyjna
może być ostra, nawrotowa i przewlekła. Głównym
mechanizmem HŚD wydaje się być szybkie zmniejszenie
objętości krwi w zależności od stopnia ultrafiltracji,
niedostateczne mechanizmy adaptacyjne,
a także spadek pozakomórkowej osmolalności podczas
sesji dializy. Skuteczne leczenie HŚD jest trudne
ze względu na złożoną etiopatogenezę. Strategia
leczenia HŚD obejmuje uzupełnienie przestrzeni
wewnątrznaczyniowej w ostrych epizodach spadku
ciśnienia, dokładną ocenę „suchej masy”, edukację pacjenta co do unikania nadmiernych przyrostów
masy ciała między dializami, ograniczenia podaży
sodu w diecie, unikania przyjmowania pokarmów
tuż przed lub w trakcie sesji dializacyjnych, odpowiednie
leczenie nadciśnienia, a także modyfikowanie
parametrów hemodializy (niska temperatura dializatu,
dłuższe zabiegi dializy, sesje codzienne, dializy
z profilowaniem sodu i ultrafiltracji). Pomocna
jest również farmakoterapia z wykorzystaniem takich
leków, jak: midodryna, kofeina, efedryna i wazopresyna.
Nowa klasa leków, która może przynieść
dodatkowe możliwości terapeutyczne dla HŚD, to
antagoniści receptora adenozyny i selektywne inhibitory
syntazy tlenku azotu
Influence of growth and inflammatory factors on the development of nephropathy in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2
WSTĘP. W ostatnio opublikowanych badaniach wykazano istotną rolę czynników wzrostowych i cytokin prozapalnych w rozwoju nefropatii cukrzycowej.
Celem pracy była ocena wpływu wybranych czynników wzrostowych i markerów stanu zapalnego na
rozwój zmian w nerkach u pacjentów z nefropatią
cukrzycową.
MATERIAŁ I METODY. Badaniami objęto 50 chorych
z nefropatią w przebiegu cukrzycy typu 2, w tym 25
poddano obserwacji prospektywnej trwającej 36
miesięcy. U wszystkich pacjentów oznaczono stężenie czynników zapalnych i wzrostowych we krwi oraz
parametry wydolności nerek.
WYNIKI.
z albuminurią (r = 0,5; p = 0,008 i r = 0,5; p = 0,02)
oraz VEGF z wartością GFR (r = –0,4; p = 0,03).
WNIOSKI. W niniejszej pracy wykazano, że u chorych
z nefropatią cukrzycową, w stosunku do wartości
referencyjnych, występują istotnie wyższe stężenia
markerów zapalnych. W badaniu prospektywnym
wzrost wartości stężeń markerów zapalnych wiązał się
z progresją nefropatii - obniżeniem GFR i wzrostem
albuminurii.BACKGROUND. Presently published research points
to an essential role of growth and pro-inflammatory
cytokines in the development of diabetic nephropathy. The aim of the study was to evaluate influence
of certain growth factors and inflammatory markers
on the progression of kidney changes in patients with
diabetic nephropathy.
MATERIAL AND METHODS. Material included 50
patients with diabetic nephropathy, 25 out of them
re-evaluated after 36 months. Inflammatory and
growth factors were measured along with renal
parameters in all patients.
RESULTS. Patients with diabetic nephropathy were
characterized with significantly higher values of
fibrinogen, hsCRP, IL-6 and sTNF-RII in comparison to reference values. In the initial examination,
increased concentrations of IL-6 and sTNF-RII were
associated with decreased values of GFR (r= –0.3;
p = 0.01, as well as r = –0.7; p < 0.0001). After 36
months of observation - an association was found
between concentrations of hsCRP, sTNF-RII and
albuminuria (r = 0.5; p = 0.008 and r = 0.5; p =
0.02); as well as between VEGF and GFR values (r =
–0.4; p = 0.03).
CONCLUSIONS. Research showed that patients with
diabetic nephropathy in comparison to reference
values had significantly higher concentrations of
inflammatory markers. In the prospective examination - changes of inflammatory markers were
associated with progression of nephropathy (decrease of GFR and increase of albuminuria)

Relationships Between Fungal Contamination and Some Physicochemical Properties of Rapeseeds
The aim of this study was to evaluate some properties of rapeseed, to determine the amount of fungi including thermotolerant and xerophilic species and to specify the correlations between some physical properties of rapeseed and the number of fungi. Material was 18 samples of rapeseeds. The characteristics of seeds included volumetric weight, impurities, pH, moisture, water activity, fat content, fat acidity and critical moisture of seeds. Number of fungi were investigated on RBA, YpSs, DG18 medium at 25, 37 and 45°C. Differences between amount of rapeseed impurities and fat acidity have been revealed. The number of fungi was diversified depending on medium and incubation temperature. The largest fungi number was isolated on DG18 at 25°C. Correlations between physicochemical properties of seeds and number of isolated fungi have been pointed out. Our study demonstrated that low pH values and weight by volume of seeds as well as high acidity of fat can be used as indicators of contamination of rapeseeds by fungi

Fruits and fruit preserves are the source of valuable and essential nutrients. They are low-calorific, rich in vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, pectin, easily absorbed sugars and organic acids. They contain valuable bioactive substances such as polyphenols or phytoestrogens that are responsible for the health benefits of fruits. The right amount of them in a diet is especially important for maintaining good health. Selection of the most nutritious raw materials, rich in many naturally occurring substances, is the property and quality of the fruit. Particular attention should be paid to domestic fruits, whose greater accessibility for consumers, shorter shelf -life and transport make them more attractive and valuable raw materials. The aim of this paper was to present the pro-health properties of selected fruits cultivated in Poland: black chokeberry, elderberry, cranberry, honeyberry and raspberry, because of their valuable prophylactic properties in the treatment of many diseases
Garden nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus L.) - a source of mineral elements and bioactive compounds
The garden nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus L.) belongs to the family Tropaeolaceae. Native to South America it was brought to Europe in XVI century. It is a plant with numerous healing properties. Medicinal plants such as the garden nasturtium contain trace elements and bioactive compounds which can be easily absorbed by the human body. The flowers and other parts of the garden nasturtium are a good source of micro elements such as potassium, phosphorus, calcium and magnesium, and macro elements, especially of zinc, copper and iron. The essential oil, the extract from the flowers and leaves, and the compounds isolated from these elements have antimicrobial, antifungal, hypotensive, expectorant and anticancer effects.
Antioxidant activity of extracts from garden nasturtium is an effect of its high content of compounds such as anthocyanins, polyphenols and vitamin C. Due to its rich phytochemical content and unique elemental composition, the garden nasturtium may be used in the treatment of many diseases for example the illnesses of the respiratory and digestive systems. High content of erucic acid in nasturtium seeds makes it possible to use its oil as treatment in adrenoleukodystrophy. It is also applied in dermatology because it improves the condition of skin and hair. More recently, the flowers of this species have been used as a decorative and edible element of some types of dishes. Aim of the review was to summarize available data concerning garden nasturtium Tropaeolum majus L
An updated catalog of giant radio sources
We present a catalogue of 349 giant radio sources (GRSs including both
galaxies and quasars). The database contains all giants known to date from the
literature. These GRSs cover the redshift range of 0.016z3.22 and include
radio sources of projected linear sizes larger than 0.7~Mpc which extend up to
4.7~Mpc. We provide the principal parameters (i.e. exact position of the host
in the sky, redshift, angular and projected linear size, red optical magnitude,
radio morphology type, total radio flux density and luminosity) for all the
sources as well as characteristics of the sample. Based on the distribution of
GRSs in the sky we identify regions where there is a paucity of giants, so that
future surveys for this type of objects could concentrate primarily in these
fields. From the analysis presented here, we estimate a lower limit for the
expected number of GRSs as about 2000, for the resolution and sensitivity
limits of FIRST, NRAO VLA Sky Survey and Sloan Digital Sky Survey surveys.
Compared with earlier compilations, there is a significant increase in the
number of large giants with sizes 2 Mpc as well as those at high redshifts
with z1. We discuss aspects of their evolution and suggest that these are
consistent with evolutionary models.Comment: 20 pages, 7 figures, 1 table. Accepted to publish in ApJ
Chemical Profile and Antioxidant Activity of the Kombucha Beverage Derived from White, Green, Black and Red Tea
Kombucha is a fermented tea beverage prepared as a result of the symbiotic nature of bacterial cultures and yeast, the so-called SCOBY (Symbiotic Cultures of Bacteria and Yeasts). Kombucha is characterised by rich chemical content and healthy properties. It includes organic acids, minerals and vitamins originating mainly from tea, amino acids, and biologically active compounds—polyphenols in particular. Kombucha is prepared mainly in the form of black tea, but other tea types are increasingly often used as well, which can significantly impact its content and health benefits. This work shows that the type of tea has a significant influence on the parameters associated with the antioxidant potential, pH, as well as the content of acetic acid, alcohol or sugar. Red tea and green tea on the 1st and 14th day of fermentation are a particularly prominent source of antioxidants, especially polyphenols, including flavonoids. Therefore, the choice of other tea types than the traditionally used black tea and the subjection of these tea types to fermentation seems to be beneficial in terms of the healthy properties of kombucha
