Investment Behavior and Stock Preference of an Individual Investor: Evidence from Karachi Stock Exchange
The purpose of the research is to study the individual investor’s behavior in Karachi Stock Exchange. In this study data was collected from individual clients at Karachi Stock Exchange. Type of the study is descriptive and deductive approach was used. The data was collected from 389 respondents at Karachi Stock Exchange with the help of designed questionnaire. The individual behavior is tested with the help of regression analysis. There are three regression models developed to study the relationship and impact of Independent variables (Accounting information & financial literacy, overconfidence, irrationality and biasness in decision making) on three different dependent variables (Preference of capital gain, preference of dividend and gambling). Results explain no relationship toward preference of capital gain but the significant relationships found toward preference of dividend and gambling. So it can be easily concluded that the investors at Karachi Stock Exchange do not prefer capital gain but they want better payout and speculation in the market. There were also studied that the accounting information & financial literacy increase the behavior toward preference of dividend and decrease toward gambling. There have been the evidences found that the investors at Karachi Stock Exchange have irrational behavior and this behavior influences the preference of dividend and gambling. Keywords:Investment behavior, Capital gain, Dividend, Gambling, Financial Literacy, Overconfidence, Irrationality and Biasness in Decision Making
Film Retakes in Digital and Conventional Radiography
Objective: To determine the film-retake rates and causes in digital radiography comparison to conventional X-rays method.
Study Design: Comparative study.
Place and Duration of Study: Radiology Department, Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, from January 2004 to December 2006. Patients and Methods: X-rays of different body parts, conducted during the year 2004, with conventional radiography (n=170300), and in 2006 with digital radiography (n=174550), were included in this study. Measurements were done for number of X-rays re-take due to different quality control reasons for both the conventional and digital radiography. Quality control reasons included underexposure, overexposure, positioning errors, patient movements, portable X-rays, grid cutoff, and others (i.e. equipment related) due to which X-ray quality was questionable. Results were expressed in percentages.
Results: A total of 9423 X-rays (5.5%) were repeated in conventional radiography (n=170300) due to underexposure (38%), overexposure (28.5%), positioning errors (25%), portable procedures (4%), patient movement (2%), grid cut-off (0.5%), and others (2%). Underexposure was the most frequently responsible factor for the X-ray repetition as compared to other factors (p\u3c0.001). In digital radiography (n=174550), 1464 X-rays (1%) needed to be repeated, which was significantly less in comparison to X-ray repetition in conventional method of radiography (5.5%) [p\u3c0.001]. In digital radiography, the most frequent factor for X-ray re-take was positioning error (435, 30%).
Conclusion: Digital radiography is associated with significantly lesser number of re-take X-rays as compared to conventional radiography, hence minimizes the exposure of the patients to unnecessary radiations due to re-take X-rays. Positioning error remains a problem even in digital radiography, emphasizing training need for technologists
Wireless sensor network performance analysis and effect of blackhole and sinkhole attacks
The widespread usage of Wireless sensor networks in various fields and application make it vulnerable to variety of security threats and attacks. These security attacks occur when an adversary compromised a sensor node by inject false measurements and divert real time network traffic. Sinkhole and Blackhole attacks are very common attacks in network, where an attacker advertises un-authorized routing update in network. To deal with these types of attacks, there is a need to tighten the network security and prevent from attackers. In this study, we discuss security threats and presents the effects of Black and Sink hole attacks. Further, the study presents related work and current issues in wireless sensor network. The simulation results illustrated that, how these attacks affect the network performance
Geographical Forwarding Methods in Vehicular Ad hoc Networks
Vehicular ad hoc networks are new and emerging technology and special class of mobile ad hoc networks that provide wireless communication between vehicles without any fixed infrastructure. Geographical routing has appeared as one of the most scalable and competent routing schemes for vehicular networks. A number of strategies have been proposed for forwarding the packets in geographical direction of the destination, where information of direct neighbors is gained through navigational services. Due to dynamically changing topologies and high mobility neighbor information become outdated. To address these common issues in network different types of forwarding strategies have been proposed. In this review paper, we concentrate on beaconless forwarding methods and their forwarding methods in detail
Growth and yield enhancement of carrot through integration of NPK and organic manures
A pot experiment was conducted at Horticulture Experimental Area, Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan to investigate the combined effects of NPK and organic manures on growth and yield of carrot, for two consecutive years. The experiment was laid out in CRD with six treatments and four replications. Five different organic manures such as poultry manure (PM), sewage sludge (SS), farmyard manure (FYM), press mud (PrM) and goat manure (GM) were applied in combination with NPK, each at recommended levels for two successive years. A fertilizer check (control) was also included as treatment where no fertilizer and manure were used. The study revealed significant improvements in almost all growth and yield attributes by combined application of NPK and organic manures. Among different combinations, NPK + PM surpassed all other treatments by giving maximum leaves per plant (8.73 and 8.13), leaf length (38.17 and 36.77cm), root length (29.30 and 24.83cm), root diameter (3.10 and 3.27cm), root weight per plant (142.40 and 142.00g), total biomass per plant (169.33 and 166.67g) and root yield (56.67 and 56.83 t/ha), during both the experimental years. Similarly, NPK combination with green manure and sewage sludge also produced better results pertaining to carrot growth and production for two consecutive years. It was also observed during the study that control treatment showed poorest findings and placed at lowest levels
Enhancing EDM Machining Precision through Deep Cryogenically Treated Electrodes and ANN Modelling Approach
The critical applications of difficult-to-machine Inconel 617 (IN617) compel the process to be accurate enough that the requirement of tight tolerances can be met. Electric discharge machining (EDM) is commonly engaged in its machining. However, the intrinsic issue of over/undercut in EDM complicates the achievement of accurately machined profiles. Therefore, the proficiency of deep cryogenically treated (DCT) copper (Cu) and brass electrodes under modified dielectrics has been thoroughly investigated to address the issue. A complete factorial design was implemented to machine a 300 μm deep impression on IN617. The machining ability of DCT electrodes averagely gave better dimensional accuracy as compared to non-DCT electrodes by 13.5% in various modified dielectric mediums. The performance of DCT brass is 29.7% better overall compared to the average value of overcut (OC) given by DCT electrodes. Among the non-treated (NT) electrodes, the performance of Cu stands out when employing a Kerosene-Span-20 modified dielectric. In comparison to Kerosene-Tween-80, the value of OC is 33.3% less if Kerosene-Span-20 is used as a dielectric against the aforementioned NT electrode. Finally, OC’s nonlinear and complex phenomena are effectively modeled by an artificial neural network (ANN) with good prediction accuracy, thereby eliminating the need for experiments
