NLO QCD corrections to the production of a weak boson pair associated by a hard jet
In this talk we discuss recent progress concerning precise predictions for
the LHC. We give a status report of an application of the GOLEM method to deal
with multi-leg one-loop amplitudes, namely the next-to-leading order QCD

NLO QCD corrections to ZZ+jet production at hadron colliders
A fully differential calculation of the next-to-leading order QCD corrections
to the production of Z-boson pairs in association with a hard jet at the
Tevatron and LHC is presented. This process is an important background for
Higgs particle and new physics searches at hadron colliders. We find sizable
corrections for cross sections and differential distributions, particularly at
the LHC. Residual scale uncertainties are typically at the 10% level and can be
further reduced by applying a veto against the emission of a second hard jet.
Our results confirm that NLO corrections do not simply rescale LO predictions.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures, 4 tables; added 1 reference, version to appear

Multi-Higgs boson production in the Standard Model and beyond
We present a calculation of the loop-induced processes gg -> HH and gg ->
HHH, and investigate the observability of multi-Higgs boson production at the
CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the Standard Model (SM) and beyond. While
the SM cross sections are too small to allow observation at the LHC, we
demonstrate that physics beyond the SM can lead to amplified, observable cross
sections. Furthermore, the applicability of the heavy top quark approximation
in two- and three-Higgs boson production is investigated. We conclude that
multi-Higgs boson production at the SuperLHC is an interesting probe of Higgs
sectors beyond the SM and warrants further study.Comment: 17 pages, 17 figure
Structural optimization and biological evaluation of 2-substituted 5-hydroxyindole-3-carboxylates as potent inhibitors of human 5-lipoxygenase.
Pharmacological suppression of leukotriene biosynthesis by inhibitors of 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) is a strategy to intervene with inflammatory and allergic disorders. We recently presented 2-amino-5-hydroxy-1H-indoles as efficient 5-LO inhibitors in cell-based and cell-free assays. Structural optimization led to novel benzo[g]indole-3-carboxylates exemplified by ethyl 2-(3-chlorobenzyl)-5- hydroxy-1H-benzo[g]indole-3-carboxylate (compound 11a), which inhibits 5-LO activity in human neutrophils and recombinant human 5-LO with IC50 values of 0.23 and 0.086 μM, respectively. Notably, 11a efficiently blocks 5-LO product formation in human whole blood assays (IC50 = 0.83-1.6 μM) and significantly prevented leukotriene B4 production in pleural exudates of carrageenan-treated rats, associated with reduced severity of pleurisy. Together, on the basis of their high potency against 5-LO and the marked efficacy in biological systems, these novel and straightforward benzo[g]indole-3-carboxylates may have potential as anti-inflammatory therapeutics
Next-to-leading order multi-leg processes for the Large Hadron Collider
In this talk we discuss recent progress concerning precise predictions for
the LHC. We give a status report of three applications of our method to deal
with multi-leg one-loop amplitudes: The interference term of Higgs production
by gluon- and weak boson fusion to order O(alpha^2 alpha_s^3) and the
next-to-leading order corrections to the two processes pp -> ZZ jet and u ubar
-> d dbar s sbar. The latter is a subprocess of the four jet cross section at

Processability of high strength Aluminum-Copper alloys AW-2022 and 2024 by Laser Beam Melting in Powder Bed
Additive Manufacturing offers geometric freedom excellently suited for topology
optimized light weight designs. Ideally these should be produced from materials of high strength
to weight ratio such as aluminium-copper alloys. Yet these are considered unsuitable for welding.
With Laser Beam Melting of Metals in powder bed (LBM), the only class of aluminium alloys
widely processed is that of aluminium-silicon alloys, which are easily weldable and castable, too.
In this contribution we present results of LBM high-strength aluminium-copper alloys AW-2022
and AW-2024 under variation of laser power, scan speed and hatch distance. We achieved
relative densities well above 99 %. We analyzed thin walls, compared process windows as well
as microstructures observed using etched metallographic microsections. We analyzed the
chemical constitution of powders and produced samples using ICP-OES.Mechanical Engineerin
Viking Age garden plants from southern Scandinavia: diversity, taphonomy and cultural aspects
Plant finds recovered from archaeological sites in southern Scandinavia dated to the Viking Age reflect the diversity of useful plants that were cultivated and collected. This review presents the results of 14 investigations of deposits that are dated between AD 775 and 1050. The site types are categorized as agrarian, urban, military and burials. Garden plants are unevenly distributed, as the greatest diversity is recorded in features from urban contexts. We argue that taphonomic processes played an important role in the picture displayed. Archaeobotanical research results from neighbouring regions suggest that Viking Age horticulture has its roots in older traditions, and that the spectrum of garden plants is influenced by central and north-western European horticultural customs, which were to a great extent shaped by Roman occupation
Two-phonon 1- state in 112Sn observed in resonant photon scattering
Results of a photon scattering experiment on 112Sn using bremsstrahlung with
an endpoint energy of E_0 = 3.8 MeV are reported. A J = 1 state at E_x =
3434(1) keV has been excited. Its decay width into the ground state amounts to
Gamma_0 = 151(17) meV, making it a candidate for a [2+ x 3-]1- two-phonon
state. The results for 112Sn are compared with quasiparticle-phonon model
calculations as well as the systematics of the lowest-lying 1- states
established in other even-mass tin isotopes. Contrary to findings in the
heavier stable even-mass Sn isotopes, no 2+ states between 2 and 3.5 MeV

Factors That Influence HIV Risk among Hispanic Female Immigrants and Their Implications for HIV Prevention Interventions
Hispanics are the fastest growing minority group in North Carolina with increasing incidence of HIV infection. Gender roles, cultural expectations, and acculturation of women may explain some of Hispanic women's risks. The perspectives of Hispanic female immigrants and community-based providers were sought to identify services they offer, understand HIV risk factors, and support the adaptation of a best-evidence HIV behavioural intervention for Hispanic women. Two sets of focus groups were conducted to explicate risks and the opportunities to reach women or couples and the feasibility to conduct HIV prevention in an acceptable manner. Salient findings were that Hispanic female immigrants lacked accurate HIV/AIDS and STI knowledge and that traditional gender roles shaped issues surrounding sexual behaviour and HIV risks, as well as condom use, partner communication, and multiple sexual partnerships. Intervention implications are discussed such as developing and adapting culturally appropriate HIV prevention interventions for Hispanics that address gender roles and partner communication
