Longitudinal Flow of Protons from 2-8 AGeV Central Au+Au Collisions
Rapidity distributions of protons from central Au + Au
collisions measured by the E895 Collaboration in the energy range from 2 to 8
AGeV at the Brookhaven AGS are presented. Longitudinal flow parameters derived
using a thermal model including collective longitudinal expansion are extracted
from these distributions. The results show an approximately linear increase in
the longitudinal flow velocity, , as a function of the

Comparison of Source Images for protons, 's and 's in 6 AGeV Au+Au collisions
Source images are extracted from two-particle correlations constructed from
strange and non-strange hadrons produced in 6 AGeV Au + Au collisions. Very
different source images result from pp vs p vs
correlations. These observations suggest important differences in the
space-time emission histories for protons, pions and neutral strange baryons
produced in the same events
Direct Detection of Dark Matter in Supersymmetric Models
We evaluate neutralino-nucleon scattering rates in several well-motivated
supersymmetric models, and compare against constraints on the neutralino relic
density, BF( b\to s\gamma ) as well as the muon anomalous magnetic moment a_\mu
. In the mSUGRA model, the indirect constraints favor the hyperbolic
branch/focus point (HB/FP) region of parameter space, and in fact this region
is just where neutralino-nucleon scattering rates are high enough to be
detected in direct dark matter search experiments! In Yukawa unified SUSY
SO(10) models with scalar mass non-universality, the relic density of
neutralinos is almost always above experimental bounds, while the corresponding
direct detection rates are below experimental levels. Conversely, in five
dimensional SO(10) models where gauge symmetry breaking is the result of
compactification of the extra dimension, and supersymmetry breaking is
communicated via gaugino mediation, the relic density is quite low, while

Charged Pion Production in 2 to 8 AGeV Central Au+Au Collisions
Momentum spectra of charged pions over nearly full rapidity coverage from
target to beam rapidity have been measured in the 0-5% most central Au+Au
collisions in the beam energy range from 2 to 8 AGeV by the E895 Experiment.
Using a thermal parameterization to fit the transverse mass spectra, rapidity
density distributions are extracted. The observed spectra are compared with
predictions from the RQMD v2.3 cascade model and also to a thermal model
including longitudinal flow. The total 4 yields of the charged pions are

The hyperon-nucleon interaction: conventional versus effective field theory approach
Hyperon-nucleon interactions are presented that are derived either in the
conventional meson-exchange picture or within leading order chiral effective
field theory. The chiral potential consists of one-pseudoscalar-meson exchanges
and non-derivative four-baryon contact terms. With regard to meson-exchange
hyperon-nucleon models we focus on the new potential of the Juelich group,
whose most salient feature is that the contributions in the scalar--isoscalar
(\sigma) and vector--isovector (\rho) exchange channels are constrained by a

Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with the Gauge Mediation of Supersymmetry Breaking
We study the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) as the
simplest candidate solution to the -problem in the context of the gauge
mediation of supersymmetry breaking (GMSB). We first review various proposals
to solve the -problem in models with the GMSB. We find none of them
entirely satisfactory and point out that many of the scenarios still lack
quantitative studies, and motivate the NMSSM as the simplest possible solution.
We then study the situation in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM)
with the GMSB and find that an order 10% cancellation is necessary between the
-parameter and the soft SUSY-breaking parameters to correctly reproduce
. Unfortunately, the NMSSM does not to give a phenomenologically viable
solution to the -problem. We present quantitative arguments which apply
both for the low-energy and high-energy GMSB and prove that the NMSSM does not
work for either case. Possible modifications to the NMSSM are then discussed.
The NMSSM with additional vector-like quarks works phenomenologically, but
requires an order a few percent cancellation among parameters. We point out
that this cancellation has the same origin as the cancellation required in the

Laying the groundwork at the AGS: Recent results from experiment E895
The E895 Collaboration at the Brookhaven AGS has performed a systematic
investigation of Au+Au collisions at 2-8 AGeV, using a large-acceptance Time
Projection Chamber. In addition to extensive measurements of particle flow,
spectra, two-particle interferometry, and strangeness production, we have
performed novel hybrid analyses, including azimuthally-sensitive pion HBT,
extraction of the six-dimensional pion phasespace density, and a first

Near-threshold production of the multi-strange hyperon
The yield for the multi-strange hyperon has been measured in 6 AGeV
Au+Au collisions via reconstruction of its decay products and
, the latter also being reconstructed from its daughter tracks of
and p. The measurement is rather close to the threshold for
production and therefore provides an important test of model predictions. The
measured yield for and are compared for several
centralities. In central collisions the yield is found to be in
excellent agreement with statistical and transport model predictions,
suggesting that multi-strange hadron production approaches chemical equilibrium
in high baryon density nuclear matter.Comment: Submitted to PR
Model-independent source imaging using two-pion correlations in 2 to 8A GeV Au + Au collisions
We report a particle source imaging analysis based on two-pion correlations
in high multiplicity Au + Au collisions at beam energies between 2 and 8A GeV.
We apply the imaging technique introduced by Brown and Danielewicz, which
allows a model-independent extraction of source functions with useful accuracy
out to relative pion separations of about 20 fm. The extracted source functions
have Gaussian shapes. Values of source functions at zero separation are almost
constant across the energy range under study. Imaging results are found to be
consistent with conventional source parameters obtained from a multidimensional
