Mass Spectra of N=2 Supersymmetric SU(n) Chern-Simons-Higgs Theories
An algebraic method is used to work out the mass spectra and symmetry
breaking patterns of general vacuum states in N=2 supersymmetric SU(n)
Chern-Simons-Higgs systems with the matter fields being in the adjoint
representation. The approach provides with us a natural basis for fields, which
will be useful for further studies in the self-dual solutions and quantum
corrections. As the vacuum states satisfy the SU(2) algebra, it is not
surprising to find that their spectra are closely related to that of angular
momentum addition in quantum mechanics. The analysis can be easily generalized
to other classical Lie groups.Comment: 17 pages, use revte
The Chern-Simons Coefficient in Supersymmetric Non-abelian Chern-Simons Higgs Theories
By taking into account the effect of the would be Chern-Simons term, we
calculate the quantum correction to the Chern-Simons coefficient in
supersymmetric Chern-Simons Higgs theories with matter fields in the
fundamental representation of SU(n). Because of supersymmetry, the corrections
in the symmetric and Higgs phases are identical. In particular, the correction
is vanishing for N=3 supersymmetric Chern-Simons Higgs theories. The result
should be quite general, and have important implication for the more
interesting case when the Higgs is in the adjoint representation.Comment: more references and explanation about rgularization dpendence are

Neural Enquirer: Learning To Query Tables In Natural Language
We propose NEURAL ENQUIRER â a neural network architecture for answering natural language
(NL) questions based on a knowledge base (KB) table. Unlike existing work on end-to-end training of
semantic parsers [13, 12], NEURAL ENQUIRER is fully âneuralizedâ: it finds distributed representations
of queries and KB tables, and executes queries through a series of neural network components called
âexecutorsâ. Executors model query operations and compute intermediate execution results in the form
of table annotations at different levels. NEURAL ENQUIRER can be trained with gradient descent, with
which the representations of queries and the KB table are jointly optimized with the query execution
logic. The training can be done in an end-to-end fashion, and it can also be carried out with stronger
guidance, e.g., step-by-step supervision for complex queries. NEURAL ENQUIRER is one step towards
building neural network systems that can understand natural language in real-world tasks. As a proofof-concept, we conduct experiments on a synthetic QA task, and demonstrate that the model can learn
to execute reasonably complex NL queries on small-scale KB tables.postprin
Self-dual Maxwell Chern-Simons Solitons In 1+1 Dimensions
We study the domain wall soliton solutions in the relativistic self-dual
Maxwell Chern-Simons model in 1+1 dimensions obtained by the dimensional
reduction of the 2+1 model. Both topological and nontopological self-dual
solutions are found in this case. A la BPS dyons here the Bogomol'ny bound on
the energy is expressed in terms of two conserved quantities. We discuss the
underlying supersymmetry. Nonrelativistic limit of this model is also
considered and static, nonrelativistic self-dual soliton solutions are
obtained.Comment: 18 pages RevTex, 2 figures included, to appear in Phys. Rev.
Maxwell Chern-Simons Solitons from Type IIB String Theory
We study various three-dimensional supersymmetric Maxwell Chern-Simons
solitons by using type IIB brane configurations. We give a systematic
classification of soliton spectra such as topological BPS vortices and
nontopological vortices in supersymmetric Maxwell
Chern-Simons system via the branes of type IIB string theory. We identify the
brane configurations with the soliton spectra of the field theory and obtain a
nice agreement with field theory aspects. We also discuss possible brane
constructions for BPS domain wall solutions.Comment: 23 pages, Latex, 4 figures; (q_1,q_2)-string convention changed,

Self-DUal SU(3) Chern-Simons Higgs Systems
We explore self-dual Chern-Simons Higgs systems with the local and
global symmetries where the matter field lies in the adjoint
representation. We show that there are three degenerate vacua of different
symmetries and study the unbroken symmetry and particle spectrum in each
vacuum. We classify the self-dual configurations into three types and study
their properties.Comment: Columbia Preprint CU-TP-635, 19 page
Predicting the size and probability of epidemics in a population with heterogeneous infectiousness and susceptibility
We analytically address disease outbreaks in large, random networks with
heterogeneous infectivity and susceptibility. The transmissibility
(the probability that infection of causes infection of ) depends on the
infectivity of and the susceptibility of . Initially a single node is
infected, following which a large-scale epidemic may or may not occur. We use a
generating function approach to study how heterogeneity affects the probability
that an epidemic occurs and, if one occurs, its attack rate (the fraction
infected). For fixed average transmissibility, we find upper and lower bounds
on these. An epidemic is most likely if infectivity is homogeneous and least
likely if the variance of infectivity is maximized. Similarly, the attack rate
is largest if susceptibility is homogeneous and smallest if the variance is
maximized. We further show that heterogeneity in infectious period is
important, contrary to assumptions of previous studies. We confirm our
theoretical predictions by simulation. Our results have implications for
control strategy design and identification of populations at higher risk from
an epidemic.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures. Submitted to Physical Review Letter
Inflationary Universe in Higher Derivative Induced Gravity
In an induced-gravity model, the stability condition of an inflationary
slow-rollover solution is shown to be . The presence of higher derivative terms
will, however, act against the stability of this expanding solution unless
further constraints on the field parameters are imposed. We find that these
models will acquire a non-vanishing cosmological constant at the end of
inflation. Some models are analyzed for their implication to the early
universe.Comment: 6 pages, two typos correcte
On 32-GHz cryogenically cooled HEMT low-noise amplifiers
The cryogenic noise temperature performance of a two-stage and a three-stage 32 GHz High Electron Mobility Transistor (HEMT) amplifier was evaluated. The amplifiers employ 0.25 micrometer conventional AlGaAs/GaAs HEMT devices, hybrid matching input and output microstrip circuits, and a cryogenically stable dc biasing network. The noise temperature measurements were performed in the frequency range of 31 to 33 GHz over a physical temperature range of 300 K down to 12 K. Across the measurement band, the amplifiers displayed a broadband response, and the noise temperature was observed to decrease by a factor of 10 in cooling from 300 K to 15 K. The lowest noise temperature measured for the two-stage amplifier at 32 GHz was 35 K with an associated gain of 16.5 dB, while the three-stage amplifier measured 39 K with an associated gain of 26 dB. It was further observed that both amplifiers were insensitive to light
