Higgs Boson Discovery Potential of LHC in the Channel ppγγ+jetpp \to\gamma\gamma+jet

We discuss the SM Higgs discovery potential of LHC in the reaction ppH+jetγγ+jetpp\to H+ jet\to\gamma\gamma+jet when the jet is observed at sufficiently high EtE_t to be reliably identified. We conclude that this channel gives promising discovery possibilities for the Higgs boson mass range 100-140 GeV, during LHC operation at a low luminosity. With 30 fb1^{-1} of accumulated data and for MH=120M_H=120 GeV about 100 signal events could be observed with the number of background events larger by a factor of 2 only, showing a signal significance S/B7S/\sqrt{B}\sim 7. We use the difference of distributions in the partonic subprocess energy s^\sqrt{\hat s} for the signal and background for a better separation of the signal.Comment: 15 pages including 6 figures, LaTeX, use epsfig.sty. Single Charged Higgs production as a probe of CP violation at a Muon Collider

We consider single charged Higgs (H±H^{\pm}) production in association with a W±W^{\pm} boson at μ+μ\mu^+\mu^- colliders, in the context of the general CP violating Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM). We find that large cross-sections for the processes μ+μH+W,HW+\mu^+\mu^-\to H^+W^-,H^-W^+ are possible, and offer an attractive way of producing H±H^{\pm} at μ+μ\mu^+\mu^- colliders. The difference in the cross-sections for H+WH^+W^- and HW+H^-W^+ may exceed 1000 fb, and this represents a novel way of probing CP violation in the Higgs sector.Comment: 15 pages, LaTex, 6 figure

Transnational Ireland on Stage: America to Middle East in Three Texts

    Get PDF
British imperialism had once channelled Ireland into becoming not only a subjugator of non-white colonies while itself subjugated, but also a transnational agent that nestled exceedingly well between cultural homogenisation and differentiation. Having said this, this essay will initiate a conversation among three dramatic texts that either question the ambiguity of the Irish role in international politics or unveil the ignored experiences of Irish exiles and their interactions with ethnic Others in a distant land. These Irish texts, to differing degrees, resist the normative impositions of a globalised world-view, and present a hybridised yet unsettling facet of Irish diasporic life in America, France, and Middle East, as it is mediated with the difficulties of changing concepts of space and time in a transnational landscape. The discussion on the three texts will illuminate not only the commonality of ethical problems in general, but also how the individual playwrights reflect on the emerging ethical crises through Irish people's own historical experiences and the concurrent Middle East conflict. The three plays to be discussed are Sebastian Barry's White Woman Street (1992), Frank McGuinness's Someone Who'll Watch Over Me (1992), and Colin Teevan's How Many Miles to Basra? (2006)

Double Higgs production at TeV Colliders in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model

    Get PDF
The reconstruction of the Higgs potential in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) requires the measurement of the trilinear Higgs self-couplings. The `double Higgs production' subgroup has been investigating the possibility of detecting signatures of processes carrying a dependence on these vertices at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and future Linear Colliders (LCs). As reference reactions, we have chosen gghhgg\to hh and e+ehhZe^+e^-\to h h Z, respectively, where hh is the lightest of the MSSM Higgs bosons. In both cases, the HhhHhh interaction is involved. For mH>2mhm_H>2m_h, the two reactions are resonant in the HhhH\to hh mode, providing cross sections which are detectable at both accelerators and strongly sensitive to the strength of the trilinear coupling involved. We explore this mass regime of the MSSM in the hbbˉh\to b\bar b decay channel, also accounting for irreducible background effects.Comment: LaTeX, 23 pages, 13 PostScript figures (contribution to the Summary Report of the Higgs WG, Workshop `Physics at TeV Colliders', Les Houches, France, 8-18 June 1999): some modifications to the bibliograph

Charged and Pseudoscalar Higgs production at a Muon Collider

    Get PDF
We consider single charged Higgs (H±H^{\pm}) and pseudoscalar Higgs (A0A^0) production in association with a gauge boson at μ+μ\mu^+\mu^- colliders. We find that the tree-level t-channel and s-channel contributions to μ+μH±W,A0Z\mu^+\mu^-\to H^{\pm}W^{\mp}, A^0Z are enhanced for large values of tanβ\tan\beta, allowing sizeable cross-sections whose analogies at e+ee^+e^- colliders would be very small. These processes provide attractive new ways of producing such particles at μ+μ\mu^+\mu^- colliders and are superior to the conventional methods in regions of parameter space.Comment: 11 pages Latex, 5 figures, formulae added in sections 2.2 and 2.3, extra discussion in section 2.3, references adde
