Further results for the two-loop Lcc vertex in the Landau gauge

    Get PDF
In the previous paper hep-th/0604112 we calculated the first of the five planar two-loop diagrams for the Lcc vertex of the general non-Abelian Yang-Mills theory, the vertex which allows us in principle to obtain all other vertices via the Slavnov-Taylor identity. The integrand of this first diagram has a simple Lorentz structure. In this letter we present the result for the second diagram, whose integrand has a complicated Lorentz structure. The calculation is performed in the D-dimensional Euclidean position space. We initially perform one of the two integrations in the position space and then reduce the Lorentz structure to D-dimensional scalar single integrals. Some of the latter are then calculated by the uniqueness method, others by the Gegenbauer polynomial technique. The result is independent of the ultraviolet and the infrared scale. It is expressed in terms of the squares of spacetime intervals between points of the effective fields in the position space -- it includes simple powers of these intervals, as well as logarithms and polylogarithms thereof, with some of the latter appearing within the Davydychev integral J(1,1,1). Concerning the rest of diagrams, we present the result for the contributions correponding to third, fourth and fifth diagrams without giving the details of calculation. The full result for the Lcc correlator of the effective action at the planar two-loop level is written explicitly for maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory.Comment: 29 pages, 1 figure, minor changes; three references added, one new paragraph in Introduction added, Note Added is extended; to appear in JHE

Vertical Confinement and Evolution of Reentrant Insulating Transition in the Fractional Quantum Hall Regime

We have observed an anomalous shift of the high field reentrant insulating phases in a two-dimensional electron system (2DES) tightly confined within a narrow GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well. Instead of the well-known transitions into the high field insulating states centered around ν=1/5\nu = 1/5, the 2DES confined within an 80\AA-wide quantum well exhibits the transition at ν=1/3\nu = 1/3. Comparably large quantum lifetime of the 2DES in narrow well discounts the effect of disorder and points to confinement as the primary driving force behind the evolution of the reentrant transition.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

Pulsed Magnetic Field Measurements of the Composite Fermion Effective Mass

Magnetotransport measurements of Composite Fermions (CF) are reported in 50 T pulsed magnetic fields. The CF effective mass is found to increase approximately linearly with the effective field BB^*, in agreement with our earlier work at lower fields. For a BB^* of 14 T it reaches 1.6me1.6m_e, over 20 times the band edge electron mass. Data from all fractions are unified by the single parameter BB^* for all the samples studied over a wide range of electron densities. The energy gap is found to increase like B\sqrt{B^*} at high fields.Comment: Has final table, will LaTeX without error

Quasiclassical magnetotransport in a random array of antidots

We study theoretically the magnetoresistance ρxx(B)\rho_{xx}(B) of a two-dimensional electron gas scattered by a random ensemble of impenetrable discs in the presence of a long-range correlated random potential. We believe that this model describes a high-mobility semiconductor heterostructure with a random array of antidots. We show that the interplay of scattering by the two types of disorder generates new behavior of ρxx(B)\rho_{xx}(B) which is absent for only one kind of disorder. We demonstrate that even a weak long-range disorder becomes important with increasing BB. In particular, although ρxx(B)\rho_{xx}(B) vanishes in the limit of large BB when only one type of disorder is present, we show that it keeps growing with increasing BB in the antidot array in the presence of smooth disorder. The reversal of the behavior of ρxx(B)\rho_{xx}(B) is due to a mutual destruction of the quasiclassical localization induced by a strong magnetic field: specifically, the adiabatic localization in the long-range Gaussian disorder is washed out by the scattering on hard discs, whereas the adiabatic drift and related percolation of cyclotron orbits destroys the localization in the dilute system of hard discs. For intermediate magnetic fields in a dilute antidot array, we show the existence of a strong negative magnetoresistance, which leads to a nonmonotonic dependence of ρxx(B)\rho_{xx}(B).Comment: 21 pages, 13 figure

Seesaw tau lepton mass and calculable neutrino masses in a 3-3-1 model

In a version of the 3-3-1 model proposed by Duong and Ma the introduction of the scalar sextet for giving mass to the charged leptons is avoided by adding a singlet charged lepton. We show that in this case the τ\tau lepton gains mass through a seesaw--like mechanism. Besides we show how to generate neutrino masses at the tree and at the 1-loop level with the respective Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata leptonic mixing matrices.Comment: revtex, 5 pages and one eps figure. Current constraints on Cosmological Parameters from Microwave Background Anisotropies

    Get PDF
We compare the latest observations of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) Anisotropies with the theoretical predictions of the standard scenario of structure formation. Assuming a primordial power spectrum of adiabatic perturbations we found that the total energy density is constrained to be Ωtot=1.03±0.06\Omega_{tot}=1.03\pm0.06 while the energy density in baryon and Cold Dark Matter (CDM) are Ωbh2=0.021±0.003\Omega_bh^2=0.021\pm0.003 and Ωcdmh2=0.12±0.02\Omega_{cdm}h^2=0.12\pm0.02, (all at 68% C.L.) respectively. The primordial spectrum is consistent with scale invariance, (ns=0.97±0.04n_s=0.97\pm0.04) and the age of the universe is t0=14.6±0.9t_0=14.6\pm0.9 Gyrs. Adding informations from Large Scale Structure and Supernovae, we found a strong evidence for a cosmological constant ΩΛ=0.700.05+0.07\Omega_{\Lambda}=0.70_{-0.05}^{+0.07} and a value of the Hubble parameter h=0.69±0.07h=0.69\pm0.07. Restricting this combined analysis to flat universes, we put constraints on possible 'extensions' of the standard scenario. A gravity waves contribution to the quadrupole anisotropy is limited to be r0.42r \le 0.42 (95% c.l.). A constant equation of state for the dark energy component is bound to be wQ0.74w_Q \le -0.74 (95% c.l.). We constrain the effective relativistic degrees of freedom Nν6.2N_\nu \leq 6.2 and the neutrino chemical potential 0.01ξe0.18-0.01 \leq \xi_e \leq 0.18 and ξμ,τ2.3|\xi_{\mu,\tau}|\leq 2.3 (massless neutrinos).Comment: The status of cosmological parameters before WMAP. Electric charge quantization and the muon anomalous magnetic moment

    Get PDF
We investigate some proposals to solve the electric charge quantization puzzle, which simultaneously explain the recent measured deviation on the muon anomalous magnetic moment. For this we assess extensions of the Electro-Weak Standard Model spanning modifications on the scalar sector only. It is interesting to verify that one can have modest extensions which easily account for the solution for both problems.Comment: 20 pages, 1 figures, needs macro axodraw.st

The Supersymmetric Standard Models with Decay and Stable Dark Matters

    Get PDF
We propose two supersymmetric Standard Models (SMs) with decaying and stable dark matter (DM) particles. To explain the SM fermion masses and mixings and have a heavy decay DM particle S, we consider the Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism by introducing an anomalous U(1)_X gauge symmetry. Around the string scale, the U(1)_X gauge symmetry is broken down to a Z_2 symmetry under which S is odd while all the SM particles are even. S obtains a vacuum expectation value around the TeV scale, and then it can three-body decay dominantly to the second/third family of the SM leptons in Model I and to the first family of the SM leptons in Model II. Choosing a benchmark point in the constrained minimal supersymmetric SM with exact R parity, we show that the lightest neutralino DM is consistent with the CDMS II experiment. Considering S three-body decay and choosing suitable parameters, we show that the PAMELA and Fermi-LAT experiments and the PAMELA and ATIC experiments can be explained in Model I and Model II, respectively.Comment: RevTex4, 26 pages, 6 figures, references added, version to appear in EPJ

Dietary Fat Intake and Cognitive Decline in Women With Type 2 Diabetes

OBJECTIVE: Individuals with type 2 diabetes have high risk of late-life cognitive impairment, yet little is known about strategies to modify risk. Targeting insulin resistance and vascular complications—both associated with cognitive decline—may be a productive approach. We investigated whether dietary fat, which modulates glucose and lipid metabolism, might influence cognitive decline in older adults with diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Beginning in 1995–1999, we evaluated cognitive function in 1,486 Nurses' Health Study participants, aged ≥70 years, with type 2 diabetes; second evaluations were conducted 2 years later. Dietary fat intake was assessed regularly beginning in 1980; we considered average intake from 1980 (at midlife) through initial cognitive interview and also after diabetes diagnosis. We used multivariate-adjusted linear regression models to obtain mean differences in cognitive decline across tertiles of fat intake. RESULTS: Higher intakes of saturated and trans fat since midlife, and lower polyunsaturated to saturated fat ratio, were each highly associated with worse cognitive decline in these women. On a global score averaging all six cognitive tests, mean decline among women in the highest trans fat tertile was 0.15 standard units worse than that among women in the lowest tertile (95% CI −0.24 to −0.06, P = 0.002); this mean difference was comparable with the difference we find in women 7 years apart in age. Results were similar when we analyzed diet after diabetes diagnosis. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that lower intakes of saturated and trans fat and higher intake of polyunsaturated fat relative to saturated fat may reduce cognitive decline in individuals with type 2 diabetes.Statistic

Neutral top-pion and lepton flavor violating processes

    In the context of topcolor-assisted techicolor(TC2) models, we study the contributions of the neutral top-pion πt0\pi^{0}_{t} to the lepton flavor violating(LFV) processes liljγl_{i}\to l_{j}\gamma and liljlklll_{i}\to l_{j}l_{k}l_{l}. We find that the present experimental bound on μeγ\mu\to e\gamma gives severe constraints on the free parameters of TC2TC2 models. Taking into account these constraints, we consider the processes liljlklll_{i}\to l_{j}l_{k}l_{l} generated by top-pion exchange at the tree-level and the one loop level, and obtain Br(μ3e)2.87×1014Br(\mu\to 3e)\simeq 2.87\times 10^{-14}, 1.1×1015Br(τ3e)Br(τ2eμ)4.4×10151.1\times 10^{-15}\leq Br(\tau\to 3e)\simeq Br(\tau\to 2e\mu)\leq 4.4 \times 10^{-15} , 3.1×1015Br(τ2μe)Br(τ3μ)1.5×10143.1\times 10^{-15} \leq Br(\tau\to 2\mu e)\simeq Br(\tau\to 3\mu)\leq 1.5 \times 10^{-14} in most of the parameter space.Comment: latex files,16 pages, 6 figures.
