Nanocluster-Based Ultralow-Temperature Driven Oxide Gate Dielectrics for High-Performance Organic Electronic Devices.
The development of novel dielectric materials with reliable dielectric properties and low-temperature processibility is crucial to manufacturing flexible and high-performance organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) for next-generation roll-to-roll organic electronics. Here, we investigate the solution-based fabrication of high-k aluminum oxide (Al2O3) thin films for high-performance OTFTs. Nanocluster-based Al2O3 films fabricated by highly energetic photochemical activation, which allows low-temperature processing, are compared to the conventional nitrate-based Al2O3 films. A wide array of spectroscopic and surface analyses show that ultralow-temperature photochemical activation (6 MV/cm). Using this dielectric layer, precisely aligned microrod-shaped 2,7-dioctyl[1]benzothieno [3,2-b][1] benzothiophene (C8-BTBT) single-crystal OTFTs were fabricated via solvent vapor annealing and photochemical patterning of the sacrificial layer
Strong solutions of the thin film equation in spherical geometry
We study existence and long-time behaviour of strong solutions for the thin
film equation using a priori estimates in a weighted Sobolev space. This
equation can be classified as a doubly degenerate fourth-order parabolic and it
models coating flow on the outer surface of a sphere. It is shown that the
strong solution asymptotically decays to the flat profile
Intracluster photodimerization of thymine: Size-dependent modes of cluster ion fragmentation
A mechanistic investigation of the processes following ultraviolet (UV) irradiation was carried out. A set of distinct and remarkably size-dependent modes of cluster fragmentation were discovered. These modes were also identified as the main culprit for the striking mass distribution that was experimentally observed. Multiple absorption of photons played a key role in such intracluster photodimerization.open8

This paper provides two general classes of multiple decision functions where
each member of the first class strongly controls the family-wise error rate
(FWER), while each member of the second class strongly controls the false
discovery rate (FDR). These classes offer the possibility that an optimal
multiple decision function with respect to a pre-specified criterion, such as
the missed discovery rate (MDR), could be found within these classes. Such
multiple decision functions can be utilized in multiple testing, specifically,

CMS endcap RPC gas gap production for upgrade
The CMS experiment will install a RE4 layer of 144 new Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) on the existing york YE3 at both endcap regions to trigger high momentum muons from the proton-proton interaction. In this paper, we present the detailed procedures used in the production of new RPC gas gaps adopted in the CMS upgrade. Quality assurance is enforced as ways to maintain the same quality of RPC gas gaps as the existing 432 endcap RPC chambers that have been operational since the beginning of the LHC operation
Ear, nose and throat injuries at Bugando Medical Centre in northwestern Tanzania: a five-year prospective review of 456 cases.
Injuries to the ear, nose and throat (ENT) regions are not uncommon in clinical practice and constitute a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in our setting. There is dearth of literature on this subject in our environment. This study was conducted to describe the causes, injury pattern and outcome of these injuries in our setting and proffer possible preventive measures. This was a descriptive prospective study of patients with ear, nose and throat injuries managed at Bugando Medical Centre between May 2007 and April 2012. Ethical approval to conduct the study was sought from relevant authorities. Statistical data analysis was performed using SPSS computer software version 17.0. A total of 456 patients were studied. The median age of patients at presentation was 18 years (range 1 to 72 years). The male to female ratio was 2:1. The commonest cause of injury was foreign bodies (61.8%) followed by road traffic accidents (22.4%). The ear was the most common body region injured accounting for 59.0% of cases. The majority of patients (324, 71.1%) were treated as an outpatient and only 132(28.9%) patients required admission to the ENT wards after definitive treatment. Foreign body removal and surgical wound debridement were the most common treatment modalities performed in 61.9% and 16.2% of cases respectively. Complication rate was 14.9%. Suppurative otitis media (30.9%) was the commonest complication in the ear while traumatic epistaxis (26.5%) and hoarseness of voice (11.8%) in the aero-digestive tract were commonest in the nose and throat. The overall median length of hospital stay for in-patients was 8 days (range 1 to 22 days). Patients who developed complications and those who had associated injuries stayed longer in the hospital (P < 0.001).Mortality rate related to isolated ENT injuries was 1.3% (6 deaths). The majority of patients (96.9%) were treated successfully and only 3.1% of cases were discharged with permanent disabilities. Injuries to the ENT regions are not uncommon in our environment and foreign bodies constitute a significant cause of injury. Majority of these injuries can be prevented through public enlightenment campaigns
