    Gauge/String-Gravity Duality and Froissart Bound

    The gauge/string-gravity duality correspondence opened renewed hope and possibility to address some of the fundamental and non-perturbative QCD problems in particle physics, such as hadron spectrum and Regge behavior of the scattering amplitude at high energies. One of the most fundamental and long-standing problem is the high energy behavior of total cross-sections. According to a series of exhaustive tests by the COMPETE group, (1). total cross-sections have a universal Heisenberg behavior in energy corresponding to the maximal energy behavior allowed by the Froissart bound, i.e., A+Bln2(s/s0)A + B ln^2 (s/s_0) with B0.32mbB \sim 0.32 mb and s034.41GeV2s_0 \sim 34.41 GeV^2 for all reactions, and (2). the factorization relation among σpp,even,σγp,andσγγ\sigma_{pp, even}, \sigma_{\gamma p}, and \sigma_{\gamma \gamma} is well satisfied by experiments. I discuss the recent interesting application of the gauge/string-gravity duality of AdS/CFTAdS/CFT correspondence with a deformed background metric so as to break the conformal symmetry that can lead to the Heisenberg behavior of rising total cross-sections, and present some preliminary results on the high energy QCD from Planckian scattering in AdSAdS and black-hole production.Comment: 10 pages, Presented to the Coral Gables Conference 2003, Launching of BelleE\'poque in High Energy Physics and Cosmology, 17 - 21 December 2003, Fort Lauderdale, Florid

    Quantum Friction of Micromechanical Resonators at Low Temperatures

    Dissipation of micro- and nano-scale mechanical structures is dominated by quantum-mechanical tunneling of two-level defects intrinsically present in the system. We find that at high frequencies--usually, for smaller, micron-scale structures--a novel mechanism of phonon pumping of two-level defects gives rise to weakly temperature-dependent internal friction, Q1Q^{-1}, concomitant to the effects observed in recent experiments. Due to their size, comparable to or shorter than the emitted phonon wavelength, these structures suffer from superradiance-enhanced dissipation by the collective relaxation of a large number of two-level defects contained within the wavelength.Comment: To apear in Phys.     Teleportation and Dense Coding with Genuine Multipartite Entanglement

    We present an explicit protocol E0{\cal E}_0 for faithfully teleporting an arbitrary two-qubit state via a genunie four-qubit entangled state. By construction, our four-partite state is not reducible to a pair of Bell states. Its properties are compared and contrasted with those of the four-party GHZ and W states. We also give a dense coding scheme D0{\cal D}_0 involving our state as a shared resource of entanglement. Both D0{\cal D}_0 and E0{\cal E}_0 indicate that our four-qubit state is a likely candidate for the genunine four-partite analogue to a Bell state.Comment: 9 pages, 0 figur

    Imaging of fuel mixture fraction oscillations in a driven system using acetone PLIF

    Measurements of fuel mixture fraction are made for a jet flame in an acoustic chamber. Acoustic forcing creates a spatially-uniform, temporally-varying pressure field which results in oscillatory behavior in the flame . Forcing is at 22,27, 32, 37, and 55 Hz. To asses the oscillatory behavior, previous work included chemiluminescence, OH PUF, nitric oxide PUF imaging, and fuel mixture fraction measurements by infrared laser absorption. While these results illuminated what was happening to the flame chemistry, they did not provide a complete explanation as to why these things were happening. In this work, the fuel mixture fraction is measured through PUF of acetone, which is introduced into the fuel stream as a marker. This technique enables a high degree of spatial resolution of fuel/air mixture value. Both non-reacting and reacting cases were measured and comparisons are drawn with the results from the previous work. It is found that structure in the mixture fraction oscillations is a major contributor to the magnitude of the flame oscillations

    Cosmological Family Asymmetry and CP violation

    We discuss how the cosmological baryon asymmetry can be achieved by the lepton family asymmetries of heavy Majorana neutrino decays and they are related to CP violation in neutrino oscillation, in the minimal seesaw model with two heavy Majorana neutrinos. We derive the most general formula for CP violation in neutrino oscillation in terms of the heavy Majorana masses and Yukawa mass term. It is shown that the formula is very useful to classify several models in which ee-, μ\mu- and τ\tau-leptogenesis can be separately realized and to see how they are connected with low energy CP violaton. To make the models predictive, we take texture with two zeros in the Dirac neutrino Yukawa matrix. In particular, we find some interesting cases in which CP violation in neutrino oscillation can happen while lepton family asymmetries do not exist at all. On the contrary, we can find ee-, μ\mu- and τ\tau-leptogenesis scenarios in which the cosmological CP violation and low energy CP violation measurable via neutrino oscillations are very closely related to each other. By determining the allowed ranges of the parameters in the models, we predict the sizes of CP violation in neutrino oscillation and Ve3MNS|V_{e3}^{MNS}|.     Perfect Crystals for U_q(D_4^{(3)})

    A perfect crystal of any level is constructed for the Kirillov-Reshetikhin module of Uq(D4(3))U_q(D_4^{(3)}) corresponding to the middle vertex of the Dynkin diagram. The actions of Kashiwara operators are given explicitly. It is also shown that this family of perfect crystals is coherent. A uniqueness problem solved in this paper can be applied to other quantum affine algebras.Comment: 27 page
