Robust super-resolution for petite image sequences

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a new, learning-based, two-step super-resolution (SR) algorithm well suited to solve the specially demanding problem of obtaining SR estimates from petite image sequences. The first step, devoted to increase the sampling rate of the incoming images, is performed by fitting linear combinations of functions generated from principal components (PC) to reproduce locally the sparse projected image data, and using these models to estimate image values at nodes of the high-resolution grid. PCs were obtained from local image patches sampled at sub-pixel level, which were generated in turn from a database of high-resolution images by application of a physically realistic observation model. Continuity between local image models is enforced by minimizing an adequate functional in the space of model coefficients. The second step, dealing with restoration, is performed by a linear filter with coefficients learned to restore residual interpolation artifacts in addition to low-resolution blurring, providing an effective coupling between both steps of the method. Results on a demanding five-image scanned sequence of graphics and text are presented, showing the excellent performance of the proposed method compared to several state-of-the-art two-step and Bayesian Maximum a Posteriori SR algorithms

A Study on Super-Resolution Image Reconstruction Techniques

    Get PDF
With the rapid development of space technology and its related technologies, more and more remote sensing platforms are sent to outer space to survey our earth. Recognizing and positioning all these space objects is the basis of knowing about the space, but there are no other effective methods in space target recognition except orbit and radio signal recognition. Super-resolution image reconstruction, which is based on the image of space objects, provides an effective way of solving this problem. In this paper, the principle of super-resolution image reconstruction and several typical reconstruction methods were introduced. By comparison, Nonparametric Finite Support Restoration Techniques were analyzed in details. At last, several aspects of super-resolution image reconstruction that should be studied further more were put forward

Revisiting the empirical existence of the Phillips Curve for India

    Get PDF
This paper revisits the empirical existence of the Phillips curve in the Indian context. To estimate the Phillips curve we need two variables – inflation and the output gap. In the case of India, incorrect measurement of both variables causes much difficulty in estimating the Phillipscurve. We use a non-linear Kalman filter approach to estimate the output gap and find that the Kalman filter estimate captures all the dynamics of the economy. Our results show that after taking supply shocks into consideration, there is clear evidence as to the existence of the Phillips curve in India for recent years.Kalman Filter; Output Gap; Inflation

Design of Hybrid Fault Tolerance Control for LPV System

    Get PDF
Modern technological devices rely on sophisticated control systems to meet increased performance requirements. For such systems, the consequences of faults in system components can be catastrophic. Therefore it is necessary to design control systems which are capable of tolerating potential faults in the systems to obtain the desired performance. The paper presents the approach for fault tolerant control (FTC) based on model reference control (MRAC) with artificial neural network (ANN) controller to analyze the ability of coupled tank linear parameter varying (LPV) system to accommodate the faults. The performance of the proposed FTC scheme is tested using a Coupled-Tank system which is used as a test bed with two different types of faults with different magnitudes and with different operating points. From the simulation results it has been proved that the proposed controller is fault tolerant and makes the system to achieve quick steady state stability against the various types of faults

R.KpnI, an HNH superfamily REase, exhibits differential discrimination at non-canonical sequences in the presence of Ca2+ and Mg2+

    Get PDF
KpnI REase recognizes palindromic sequence, GGTAC↓C, and forms complex in the absence of divalent metal ions, but requires the ions for DNA cleavage. Unlike most other REases, R.KpnI shows promiscuous DNA cleavage in the presence of Mg2+. Surprisingly, Ca2+ suppresses the Mg2+-mediated promiscuous activity and induces high fidelity cleavage. To further analyze these unique features of the enzyme, we have carried out DNA binding and kinetic analysis. The metal ions which exhibit disparate pattern of DNA cleavage have no role in DNA recognition. The enzyme binds to both canonical and non-canonical DNA with comparable affinity irrespective of the metal ions used. Further, Ca2+-imparted exquisite specificity of the enzyme is at the level of DNA cleavage and not at the binding step. With the canonical oligonucleotides, the cleavage rate of the enzyme was comparable for both Mg2+- and Mn2+-mediated reactions and was about three times slower with Ca2+. The enzyme discriminates non-canonical sequences poorly from the canonical sequence in Mg2+-mediated reactions unlike any other Type II REases, accounting for the promiscuous behavior. R.KpnI, thus displays properties akin to that of typical Type II REases and also endonucleases with degenerate specificity in its DNA recognition and cleavage properties

Fabric-Integrated, Ionic Liquid-Based Supercapacitor as a Tunable and Flexible Power Source

With the introduction of flexible and wearable electronic technologies such as displays, antenna’s, etc., there has been an increased need for integrable, easily scalable, and safe electric power sources. Advances in flexible lithium-ion batteries have been recently reported, however they may still suffer from potential thermal runaways. In this chapter we review the progress in the topic of wearable energy storage devices. These devices have taken the form of both sheets and fibers entirely made of active material. We also discuss the advantages and drawbacks of each forms. Finally, we present our own work revealing a simplistic way to integrate working carbon electrode materials into suitable textile and to functionalize the obtained flexible structure with ionic liquid thus creating fabric supercapacitors. These devices can then be connected easily in series (9 V) or in parallel (high current), depending on the current or voltage requirements. The area of the electrodes can also be tuned to sustain higher capacitances. We report an energy density of 48 Wh/kg for a functional device at 3 V working window, which reveals no losses in energy density after 10,000 bending cycles

In recent year, Aptamer has been one of the key tools in the field of advanced drug delivery systems. Aptamer are oligonucleotides or peptides that bind to a specific target molecule. In this review we summarize the major differences between the antibody and an Aptamer along with the different methodology of the In vitro selection of the Aptamer by using SELEX (Systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment) technique. SELEX is a technique which has a based biosensor and some of the novel drug delivery system. Fiber Supercapacitors Based on Carbon Nanotube-PANI Composites

    Get PDF
Flexible and wearable electronic devices are of a high academic and industrial interest. In order to power these devices, there is a need for compatible energy storage units that can exhibit similar mechanical flexibility. Fiber-based devices have thus become increasingly popular since their light-weight, and flexible structure can be easily integrated into textiles. Supercapacitors have garnered a lot of attention due to their excellent cycling durability, fast charge times and superior power density. The primary challenge, however, with electric double layer capacitors (EDLCs), which are part of the supercapacitor family, is that their energy densities are significantly lower compared to those of batteries. Pseudocapacitors, on the other hand, can be designed and created with large energy densities and other outstanding properties typical for supercapacitors. This chapter discusses the fabrication and testing of supercapacitors based on carbon nanotube-polyaniline (PANI) composite fibers. These flexible and light-weight devices are assembled using different electrolytes for comparison. The created in this work PANI-CNT composite devices attain an energy density of 6.16 Wh/kg at a power density of 630 W/kg and retained a capacitance of 88% over 1000 charge-discharge cycles
