    Multi-component quantitation of loratadine, pseudoephedrine and paracetamol in plasma and pharmaceutical formulations with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry utilizing a monolithic column

    The purpose of this study was to develop a rapid, simple and sensitive quantitation method for pseudoephedrine (PSE), paracetamol (PAR) and loratadine (LOR) in plasma and pharmaceuticals using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry with a monolithic column. Separation was achieved using a gradient composition of methanol-0.1% formic acid at a flow rate of 1.0 mL min-1. Mass spectral transitions were recorded in SRM mode. System validation was evaluated for precision, specificity and linearity. Limit of detection for pseudoephedrine, paracetamol, and loratadine were determined to be 3.14, 1.86 and 1.44 ng mL-1, respectively, allowing easy determination in plasma with % recovery of 93.12 to 101.56%

    A Lightweight Elliptic-Elgamal-Based Authentication Scheme for Secure Device-to-Device Communication

    Device-to-Device (D2D) is a major part of 5G that will facilitate deployments with extended coverage where devices can act as users or relays. These relays normally act as decode and forward relays (semi-intelligent devices) with limited computational and storage capabilities. However, introducing such a technology, where users can act as relays, presents a wide range of security threats, in particular, rogue relay devices or man in the middle attacks (M-I-T-M). Second, passing fewer control messages is always advisable when considering authenticity and secrecy. To mitigate M-I-T-M and to reduce communication costs, this paper presents a lightweight elliptic-ElGamal-based authentication scheme using PKI (FHEEP) in D2D communication. Pollard’s rho and Baby Step, Giant Step (BSGS) methods are used to evaluate the authenticity and secrecy of our proposed scheme. The communication cost is calculated based on the comparative analysis indicating that our proposed scheme outperforms the baseline protocol. The proposed scheme can be used for any infrastructure architecture that will enhance the security of any D2D settings with better performance

    Liquid Chromatographic Determination of Pioglitazone in Pharmaceuticals, Serum and Urine Samples

    A rapid and reliable analytical method based on high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with UV detection (221nm) has been developed for the determination of the anti-hyperglycemic agent Pioglitazone in pharmaceutical formulations and biological fluids (serum and urine) after clean-up with solid-phase extraction. Chromatographic separation was achieved with a Chromolith® Performance RP-18e (100×4.6mm) column using mobile phase composition of acetonitrile: mixed phosphate buffer (pH 2.5; 10mM) (30:70, v/v) with a flow rate of 2.0mL/min. The total run time was 2 min. under optimized conditions. The calibration curve was found to be linear in the range of 1-10 µg mL-1 with regression coefficient of 0.9996, and the lower limit of detection 72 ng/20µL injection. The method has been validated for the system suitability, linearity, precision and accuracy, limits of detection, specificity, stability and robustness. The %recovery of Pioglitazone in pharmaceutical formulations was found to be 104.7%. The assay has been applied successfully to the pharmaceutical Tablet samples and biological fluids (serum and urine) of healthy volunteers

    Social Entrepreneurship Opportunities via Distant Socialization and Social Value Creation

    Social entrepreneurs are catalysts for social change on account of social value creation and opportunity identification, thereby improving the quality of life. Their contribution to society is particularly significant in times of crises and pandemics. Hence, the world health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has increased the need for social entrepreneurship across the globe. Despite social entrepreneurship’s relevance in social value creation, the studies regarding opportunity identification in times of social distancing are particularly rare. This constructivist-qualitative research fills the gap by employing the EDraw Mind Map tool to explore how the COVID-19 pandemic in general, and social distancing in particular, have shaped entrepreneurial opportunities for social innovation. The findings from content analysis reveal that ICT-based services and industry 4.0 hold a promising future during and post-COVID-19 scenario. They can facilitate a transformation of the threats of social distancing into distant socialization benefits and demand fulfillment. Furthermore, the study contributes to providing a comprehensive depiction of the myriad of opportunities created by social entrepreneurs worldwide. It also guides aspiring social entrepreneurs to adopt such technologies and aim for social integration to ensure quality mental health, education, employment, and manufacturing services in low-resource and developing countries’ contexts, as they are severely impacted by the pandemic

    A Dynamic Application-Partitioning Algorithm with Improved Offloading Mechanism for Fog Cloud Networks

    This paper aims to propose a new fog cloud architecture that performs a joint energy-efficient task assignment (JEETA). The proposed JEETA architecture utilizes the dynamic application-partitioning algorithm (DAPTS), a novel algorithm that efficiently decides and switches the task to be offloaded or not in heterogeneous environments with minimal energy consumption. The proposed scheme outperforms baseline approaches such as MAUI, Think Air and Clone Cloud in many performance aspects. Results show that for the execution of 1000 Tasks on fog, mobile offloaded nodes, JEETA consumes the leas, i.e., 23% of the total energy whereas other baseline approaches consume in between 50–100% of the total energy. Results are validated via real test-bed experiments and trice are driven efficient simulations

    Simpler and Faster Spectrophotometric Determination of Diclofenac Sodium in Tablets, Serum and Urine Samples

    This work describes a simple, sensitive, rapid and economical analytical procedure for direct spectrophotometric evaluation of diclofenac sodium (DS) using aqueous medium without using a chemical reagent. Parameters like time, temperature, acidic and basic conditions and interference by analgesic drugs were studied for a 5µg ml-1 solution of DS at 276 nm. Under optimized parameters, a linear working range of 0.1–30 g ml-1 with regression coefficient of 0.9998 and lower detection limit of 0.01 g ml-1 was obtained.
