In this paper, we extend a monotone iterative technique for nonlocal fractional differential equations with finite delay in an ordered Banach space. By using the monotone iterative technique, theory of fractional calculus, semigroup theory and measure of noncompactness, we study the existence and uniqueness of extremal mild solutions. An example is presented to illustrate the main result

Objective: The present study was designed to investigate phytopromotional effects of Sebacina vermifera on economically and medicinally important aromatic plant - Coriandrum sativum (coriander). Methods: Phytopromotional effects of Sebacina vermifera were evaluated on coriander, under greenhouse and field conditions. The evaluations were carried out with reference to emergence, growth promotion and quantitative as well as the qualitative composition of essential oil. Beside this the overall effects were comparatively assessed with the effects of (a) Phosphate solubilizing bacteria (Pseudomonas fluorescens) (b) Nitrogen-fixing bacteria (Azotobacter chroococcum) on coriander using same parameters. Results: Mycorrhizal fungus (Sebacina vermifera) was observed with the most significant effect in all aspects viz. emergence, growth promotion and quantitative as well as the qualitative composition of essential oil. Conclusion: Based upon the observations, Sebacina vermifera is highly recommended as a potential biological agent that could be applied for phytopromotional effects and economic cultivation of aromatic plants

APPROACHES TO OVERCOME NSAID INDUCED ULCERATION IN ARTHRITIC PAIN MANAGEMENT: PERSPECTIVES AND PROSPECTS

Rheumatoid arthritis is an auto-immune joint disorder involving pain and inflammation. Various approaches are used for pain management and relief from arthritis with single and multiple dose therapy. In single dose therapy, use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like diclofenac aceclofenac, celicoxib etc. reported many side effects mainly leading to decrease in production of prostaglandin and holding the ulcer. High dosing frequency of these drugs is also a major factor of risk. Recently developed novel formulations are especially suitable for achieving controlled and delayed release profile with low risk of dose dumping. These systems have received great attention of pharmaceutical industry as they deliver accurate amount of drug at the right time and location thus increasing patient compliance and economic feasibility and avoiding drug associated side effects. Present review mainly deals with the problem of ulceration in pain management, various approaches to overcome this and specifically explore the possibilities to apply novel drug delivery systems for this purpose. Jackstone: A rare entity of vesical calculus

Jackstone calculi are urinary tract stones that have a specific appearance resembling toy jacks. They are almost always composed of calcium oxalate dihydrate consist of a dense central core and radiating spicules. They are usually light brown with dark patches and are usually described to occur in the urinary bladder and rarely in the upper urinary tract. Their appearance on plain radiographs and computed tomography in human patients has been described

Development and Evaluation of Solid Dispersion Formulations of Olanzepine

The purpose of present study was to enhance the aqueous solubility of olanzapine by using the Solid dispersion technique. Solid dispersions of olanzapine were prepared by the dispersion method using PGS and SSG as carriers. Drug-carrier ratios such as 1 : 1, 1 : 2, 1 : 4, 1 : 6, 1: 8 and 1 : 10 were tried for optimization. Characterization was done by phase solubility, in-vitro release, saturation solubility, permeation, wettability, XRD and FTIR analysis. Solid dispersions showed higher solubility and an improved drug release profile than the pure drug. Solid dispersion and physical mixture with a drug-polymer ratio of 1 : 10 showed the best release profile in comparison with the other samples. Phase solubility results verified the solubilization effect of the carrier. XRD and NIR analysis confirmed the reduction of crystallinity in the samples. The release study findings were well supported by the results of wettability, saturation solubility and permeability studies. IR analysis substantiated the inertness of the carrier. It was concluded that pregelatinised starch (PGS) and sodium starch glycollate (SSG) could be utilized as effective carriers to improve the aqueous solubility of poorly soluble drugs. Objective : We present our preliminary results of bulbar urethral sling (single bolster) in treatment of postprostatectomy urinary incontinence (PPUI). Materials and Methods: From May 2003 to June 2005, six patients with postprostatectomy urinary incontinence (transurethral resection of prostate in five patients and after open prostatectomy in one patient) underwent prolene mesh bulbar urethral sling surgery. Preoperative evaluation included physical examination, neurological assessment, stress cystogram and urethrocystoscopy. Urodynamic evaluation was done in all patients for abdominal leak point pressure and ruling out bladder pathology. Results : Urodynamic studies did not demonstrate bladder instability in any patient. Mean abdominal leak point pressure was 43cm of water (range 26-80 cm of water). Mean duration of hospital stay was 3.2 days. Follow-up ranged from 6-22 months. Four patients out of six patients were completely dry till their last follow-up. One patient developed mild stress incontinence after one year of the surgery and required use of one to two pads per day. Mean pad use after surgery was 0.6 pads per day in comparison to mean pad usage of 6.4 pads per day preoperatively. One patient was over-continent after the procedure and required clean intermittent catheterization till last follow-up (six months). Mean cost of the procedure was $ 350+15. Conclusion: Prolene bulbar urethral sling (single bolster) is an economically effective option in patients with postprostatectomy urinary incontinence
