    A comparative study between agonist and antagonist protocol for ovarian stimulation in art cycles at a rural set up in South Gujarat

    Background: Modern infertility practice provides us with several protocols for controlled ovarian hyperstimulation for the ART (Assisted Reproductive Techniques) cycles. The review summarises the clinical characteristics of the protocols using Gonadotrophin Releasing Hormone (GnRH) agonists and antagonists emphasising on the major clinical and laboratory outcomes with each protocol.Methods: A total of 322 cases undergoing ovarian stimulation with agonist and antagonist protocols in ART cycles at a rural set up at Killa Pardi in the year 2014 were studied and their laboratory and clinical outcomes were evaluated.Results: Antagonist group had the maximum number of oocytes retrieved and the mature M2 oocytes, maximum No. of follicles >16 mm on day of HCG, maximum No. of positive pregnancy rates. Agonist group had also a good pregnancy rate with maximum Grade I embryos.Conclusions: Taking all data together, it may be concluded that antagonists and minimal ovarian stimulation with antagonist protocols offer a new treatment regimen in ovarian stimulation that is short, safe, cost effective, well tolerated, optimizing convenience for the patient

    Underwater spray and wait routing technique for mobile ad-hoc networks

    1648-1655The underwater mobile ad-hoc networks comprise sensor nodes that are source nodes for gathering underwater-related data. Relay nodes are the mobile nodes for collecting data from sensor nodes and achieving intermittent connectivity among source and destination nodes. Developing an efficient routing protocol for underwater communication is a challenging issue due to limitations of the underwater environment. Underwater mobile ad-hoc networks are intermittent networks where end-to-end path does not exist from source to destination. To overcome these problems a delay and disruption tolerant network (DTN) is a good solution. In the current paper, we consider the Spray and Wait (SaW) routing technique. In SaW, source and relay nodes represents the moving nodes, and they try to send data to destination nodes. Based on this, we propose the replica based underwater SaW (USaW) routing for underwater mobile ad-hoc networks. In USaW, source nodes are fixed to the bottom of the surface. Underwater sensor nodes replicate sensor data and provide maximum copies of data to the relay nodes that they encounter. In generally, relay nodes have high capability of transmitting data as compared to sensor nodes in an underwater environment. We analyze the performance of USaW with respect to delivery ratio, network throughput, energy consumption, end-to-end delay, and packet drop rate comparing with existing SaW and prophet routing protocols

    GENE EXPRESSION DURING IMIDACLOPRID-INDUCED HORMESIS IN GREEN PEACH APHID

    Imidacloprid-induced hormesis in the form of stimulated reproduction has previously been reported in green peach aphid, Myzus persicae. Changes in gene expression accompanying this hormetic response have not been previously investigated. In this study, expression of stress response (Hsp60), dispersal (OSD, TOL and ANT), and developmental (FPPS I) genes were examined for two generations during imidacloprid-induced reproductive stimulation in M. persicae. Global DNA methylation was also measured to test the hypothesis that changes in gene expression are heritable. At hormetic concentrations, down-regulation of Hsp60 was followed by up-regulation of this gene in the subsequent generation. Likewise, expression of dispersal-related genes and FPPS I varied with concentration, life stage, and generation. These results indicate that reproductive hormesis in M. persicae is accompanied by a complex transgenerational pattern of up- and down-regulation of genes that likely reflects trade-offs in gene expression and related physiological processes during the phenotypic dose-response. Moreover, DNA methylation in second generation M. persicae occurred at higher doses than in first-generation aphids, suggesting that heritable adaptability to low doses of the stressor might have occurred

    A comparative study of pregnancy outcome of sequential versus day 3 versus only blastocyst (day 6) transfer at a single IVF center over one year

    Background: The recent introduction of sequential media has refocused attention upon the role of human blastocyst in IVF.  For optimisation of extended cycles, one needs to give importance to all the aspects of treatment cycle like the stimulation regimens, medium composition, endometrial quality and uterine receptivity. This study was done to know the pregnancy outcomes of Day 3 transfer vs Day3/Day 6 transfer vs only Day 6 transfer.Methods: It was a retrospective study in which 342 patients undergoing ICSI were included. 199 women underwent Day 3/Day 6 sequential transfers, 112 underwent only Day 3 transfer and only 30 women were given only Blastocyst i.e. day 6 transfer. Pregnancy outcomes of all the three groups were studied.Results: Sequential transfer was found to give maximum pregnancy rate and highest implantation rate. But it was also associated with highest number of multiple pregnancies.Conclusions: Sequential transfer is a very good efficacious approach in ART cycles if extended media are available as it gave maximum pregnancy rate and implantation rate. However it is associated with multiple pregnancies. Thus the ultimate goal is to have a single blastocyst transfer with better outcomes and lower multiple pregnancy rates

    Twenty-six years ago a small committee report, building on earlier studies, expounded a compelling and poetic vision for the future of astronomy, calling for an infrared-optimized space telescope with an aperture of at least 4m4m. With the support of their governments in the US, Europe, and Canada, 20,000 people realized that vision as the 6.5m6.5m James Webb Space Telescope. A generation of astronomers will celebrate their accomplishments for the life of the mission, potentially as long as 20 years, and beyond. This report and the scientific discoveries that follow are extended thank-you notes to the 20,000 team members. The telescope is working perfectly, with much better image quality than expected. In this and accompanying papers, we give a brief history, describe the observatory, outline its objectives and current observing program, and discuss the inventions and people who made it possible.     In this paper, we report the synthesis, the physical properties and the electrochemical features of the lithium nickel-cobalt oxide cathode materials prepared by a combustion method at moderate temperature. Structural properties were investigated by X-ray diffraction, Raman scattering and FTIR. Spectroscopic measurements show unambiguously that the ®nal product is identi®ed as a modi®ed-spinel structure (Fd3m space group) with the stoichiometric formula Li2 Ni0:5Co0:5 2O4. Electrochemical cells Li//Li2 Ni0:5Co0:5 2O4 were fabricated using an organic electrolyte and their performances were tested. For a modi®ed-spinel Li2 Ni0:5Co0:5 2O4 structure the chemical diffusion coef®cient of Li ions is around 10 ÿ10 cm2s, which is lower than for a layered LiNi0:5Co0:5O2 host matrix

    Rechargeable lithium cells have been fabricated using Li2MnO3 as the positive electrode, lithium metal as the negative electrode and 1 M LiAsF6 in DMCrEC �1:1 vrv. as the electrolyte. Chargerdischarge behaviour was evaluated and the cells showed improved performance after the first five cycles. The cells could be cycled at least 15 times without loss in capacity. Similar electrochemical trends were observed with LiPF6 in a ECrDEC mixture

    Elizabethkingia meningoseptica: An emerging pathogen causing neonatal meningitis

    Cerebrospinal fluid from a near-term second twin female baby with a history of seizures and respiratory distress requiring ventilator support was sent to our laboratory for culture. Light yellow colored colonies of 1-2 mm diameter of Gram-negative bacilli on chocolate and blood agar with no growth on MacConkey agar seen. The bacterium was multidrug resistant. Based upon the growth characteristics, bio-chemical reactions, drug susceptibility pattern and identification by Vitek 2 system (BioMerieux, France) the isolate was identified as Elizabethkingia meningoseptica. Treatment was started with cefoperazone-sulbactam. Baby subsequently developed hydrocephalus and required the insertion of a ventriculo-peritoneal shunt. Baby slowly improved and was discharged. The presence in the hospital environment along with multidrug resistance makes E. meningoseptica a successful emerging nosocomial pathogen
