Universal extra dimensions after Higgs discovery

We show bounds on five- and six-dimensional universal extra dimension (UED) models from the latest results of the Higgs searches at the LHC and from the electroweak precision data for the S and T parameters. We consider the minimal UED model in five dimensions and the ones in six dimensions. The highest possible ultraviolet cutoff scale for each UED model is evaluated from the electroweak vacuum stability by solving the renormalization group equation of the Higgs self-coupling. This scale turns out to be lower than the conventional one obtained from the perturbativity of the gauge coupling. The resultant 95% C.L. lower bounds on the first Kaluza-Klein scale from the LHC results and from the S, T analysis are 600 and 700 GeV in the minimal UED model, while those in the six-dimensional UED models are 800-1300 GeV and 900-1500 GeV, respectively.Comment: 37 pages, 9 figures, 7 tables (v1); 38 pages, 9 figures, 7 tables, with minor modifications, typos fixed, references added (v2); 37 pages, 10 figures, 7 tables, published version in PRD, figures modified, a figure added, typos fixed, a reference added (v3

Constraint on Universal Extra Dimensions from scalar boson searches

We show the bounds on five- and six-dimensional Universal Extra Dimension models from the result of the Higgs boson searches at the Large Hadron Collider and electroweak precision measurement. The latest data released by the ATLAS and the CMS gives the lower bounds on Kaluza-Klein scale which are from 650 GeV to 1350 GeV depending on models from Higgs to diboson/diphoton decay signal. The Higgs production cross section can be enhanced by factor 1.5 in crude estimation, diphoton decay signal is suppressed about 10%. Electroweak precision measurement also gives the lower bounds as from 700 GeV to 1500 GeV.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, 1 table, Proceedings of the conference "Rencontres de Moriond EW 2013", La Thuile, Italy, 2-9 Mar. 201

We show two types of bounds on five- and six-demensional universal extra dimension (UED) models from the latest results of the Higgs search at the LHC and of the electroweak precision data for the S and T parameters. The UED models on which we put lower bounds are the minimal UED model in five dimensions and the six dimensional ones. The highest possible ultraviolet cutoff scale for each UED model is evaluated from the vacuum stability of the Higgs potential by solving the renormalization group equation of the Higgs self coupling. The bounds on the KK scale in the minimal UED model is 650 GeV from the LHC results and 700 GeV from the S, T analysis at the 95% confidence level, while those in the several 6D UED models are from 850 GeV to 1350 GeV (Higgs search) and from 900 GeV to 1500 GeV (S,T analysis).Takuya Kakuda, Kenji Nishiwaki, Kin-ya Oda, Naoya Okuda, Ryoutaro Watanabe. Higgs at ILC in Universal Extra Dimensions in Light of Recent LHC Data

We present bounds on all the known universal extra dimension models from the latest Higgs search data at the Large Hadron Collider, taking into account the Kaluza-Klein (KK) loop effects on the dominant gluon-fusion production and on the diphoton/digluon decay. The lower bound on the KK scale is from 500GeV to 1TeV depending on the model. We find that the Higgs production cross section with subsequent diphoton decay can be enhanced by a factor 1.5 within this experimental bound, with little dependence on the Higgs mass in between 115GeV and 130GeV. We also show that in such a case the Higgs decay branching ratio into a diphoton final state can be suppressed by a factor 80%, which is marginally observable at a high energy/luminosity option at the International Linear Collider. The Higgs production cross section at a photon-photon collider can also be suppressed by a similar factor 90%, being well within the expected experimental reach.Takuya Kakuda, Kenji Nishiwaki, Kin-ya Oda, Naoya Okuda, Ryoutaro Watanabe. Aim: To study the effects of viscosity of oral moisturizers and residual ridge form on theretention force of maxillary complete dentures. Methods: Thirty-five maxillary edentulous participants were recruited. Three types of oralmoisturizers with different viscosities, artificial saliva, and denture adhesive were used. Thesewere applied between the intaglio surface of the denture and basal seat mucosa. The centralincisor was loaded 45° upward to the occlusal plane. The force needed to dislodge the denturewas measured using a digital force gauge. Dental impressions of the polished surfaces andintaglio surfaces of the maxillary complete dentures were obtained. Then, duplicate dentureswere cast using auto polymerizing acrylic resin. The buccolingual molar residual ridge form wasassessed using the dental impressions. The duplicate denture was used to measure the positionalrelationship of the central incisor edge, anterior residual ridge crest, and posterior border ofdentures. The effect of residual ridge form on retention force was analyzed. Results: The gel-type oral moisturizer showed significantly greater retention than theother types (P < .05). The retention force and buccolingual molar residual ridge form were notcorrelated. As the ratio of the distance from the central incisor to the anterior residual ridgecrest and the distance from the anterior residual ridge crest to the posterior denture borderincreased, retention force decreased (r = -0.352; P < .01).Conclusion: The results indicate that the retention force of dentures is affected by oralmoisturizer viscosity and the relative position of the anterior residual ridge crest

Reliability and Validity of Caregivers’ Fear of Falling Index When Caring for Home-Based Rehabilitation Patients With Fall-Related Fractures

Objective To evaluate the reliability and validity of this new measure, called the caregivers’ fear of falling index (CFFI). Methods The study surveyed home-based rehabilitation patients with fall-related fracture, and their primary caregivers. The characteristics of these patients were evaluated, and the caregivers were surveyed using the CFFI and Falls Efficacy Scale-International (FES-I). The reliability of the CFFI was assessed using item-total correlation, while the validity of the CFFI was evaluated through correlation coefficients calculated between the CFFI and the FES-I. Results The participants were 51 patient-caregiver pairs. The internal consistency of the CFFI showed an alpha coefficient of 0.904. No items were excluded in the corrected item-total correlations. The CFFI showed a moderate correlation with FES-I (r=0.432, p=0.002). Conclusion This study found the CFFI to be a reliable and valid tool for measuring the primary caregivers’ fear. The CFFI may be a useful tool for healthcare professionals to identify and supporting these primary caregivers
