This study investigated pitching motion reproducibility in baseball using two pitchers as subjects, a graduate student and a person on the university ball team. Both were asked to actually throw, and a photograph was taken with a high-speed camera. Analysis was done using 2-dimensional picture. The results revealed that the coefficient of variation of the arm motion [two subjects] increased among the seven items measures. From this, it is thought that the arm motion before release (forearm, upper arm, and elbow) is related to ball control

Rapid recovery is important to those who participate in sports activities or physical training. Although many recovery techniques have been tried and are currently being used all over the world, none have been adequately proven through controlled research how to give more effective recovery. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to clarify for means of assuring more effective Active Rest. Active Rest is a typical recovery technique that might give a way in speeding recovery from fatigue by doing light exercises, walking or jogging. The results were summarized as follows : 1) Rapid heart rate recovery was more obvious when Active Rest was taken 1-min. after exercise than when just after exercise. 2) Heart rate recovery was more effective when Active Rest was taken at 40% of experimental work load than 60%. 3) Heart rate recovery was more effective when the work load was decreased stepwise during Active Rest than when one was fixed

This study was conducted to determine the activity levels of the Pectoralis major, Brachioradialis, Latissimus dorsi and Rectus during forward and backward strokes in tennis. The subjects were five male college tennis players. Integrated electromyograms (integrated EMG) were obtained from an analysis of the results of rectified electromyography performed on the above four muscles. The integrated EMG were recorded for each subject during isometric voluntary contraction for each muscle. The relative muscle activity level was that determined during forward and backward strokes in tennis. The higher muscle activity levels were obtained from the Rectus and Brachioradialis in the forward stroke, and from the Brachioradialis and Pectoralis major in the backward stroke

Diet habits of physical education students were questionnaired. The subjects were four hunderd sixty-three male and 198 female students of the school of physical eduation in Chukyo University. The questionnare was consisted of the three principal parts : 1) eating habits, 2) diet profile, and 3) eating consciousness. The results obtained from this study were summarized as follows : 1. For the half of the number of male students, the frequency of meals a day was less than three. 2. For both male and female students, the higher percentage of ones who did not often go without a meal in the morning than in the afternoon. The percentage of ones who did not often have breakfast and lunch were higher for males, however, the percentage of ones who did not sometimes or often have dinner was higher for females. 3. The percentage of ones who often eat out was higher for males than females. 4. The higher percentage of ones who often eat and drink after 9 p. m. was observed for males than females. 5. For both male and female students, almost half of the number often eat between meals. 6. The percentage of ones who often have rice and noodle was higher for males. The higher percetage of ones who often have bread and potatos was obtained for females. 7. For both male and female students, the higher percentage of ones who often have eggs and meats than those who often have beans and fishes. 8. The lower percentage of ones who often have milk and yogurt was observed for males. 9. For males, the percentage of ones who often have vegetables and fruits was lower than that for females. 10. The higher percentage of ones who often take carbonated drink, juice, coffee, and alcoholic drink was obtained for males. 11. The percentage of ones who often have precooked food was higher for males than females. These results suggest that the diet habits may be more well-balanced for females than that for males

Humans generally experience much difficulty in making the same motions repeatedly. When a person can repeat a series of motions in the right way, we think he or she is well able to reproduce such motions. The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibly significant correlations between the reproducibility of movements in basketball and the results of free throw shooting performance, and between the reproducibility of the physical joint motions and the results of the shooting performance. The subjects in this study were ten male college basketball players. The movement of the balls and angles of the elbow, knee and shoulder joints were measured. From these data, the coefficient of variations were calculated. The results of this study were as follows : (1) In the motion of the ball after its release, the coefficient of variation was lowest for the height of the central part of the ball. The resultant velocity and angle of projection steadily decreased. (2) In the latter half of the motions in free throws, the coefficient of variation in elbow joint angles inclined lower. (3) In terms of the free throw success rate, the coefficient of variation in knee angular velocity in both groups revealed a characteristic difference

The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationships for a discus thrower between : a) the linear velocity of the body center of mass of a discus thrower and discus linear velocity at the moment of release, b) the linear velocity of the body center of mass of a discus thrower and the angular momentum of the discus-and-thrower-system in relation to its vertical axis during discus throwing. The subjects of this study were ten (right-handed) male track and field athletes. Two high speed video cameras operating at 250 fields per second were used to obtain three-dimensional data on the performances of the subjects for each trial. The trial in which each subject recorded his best throw in the test was selected for analysis. A significant correlation (r=0.699, p<0.05) was found between the linear velocity of the body center of mass of a discus thrower with his left foot on the ground (L-on) and discus linear velocity at the moment of release (Rel). The linear velocity of the body center of mass of a discus thrower and the angular momentum of the discus-and-thrower-system in relation to its vertical axis were not correlated significantly with each other during discus throwing. These data provide evidence that the linear velocity of the body center of mass of a discus thrower should be increased as much as possible towards the delivery phase (DV) in order to obtain optimum discus linear velocity at the moment of release (Rel) during discus throwing
