    A theoretical analysis of social justice views of republican and Islamic women's civil society organizations in Turkey: diverging claims and contending traditions

    This study attempts to explain diverging claims of justice generating from two major movements within women’s civil society, namely republican and Islamic women’s activism. Given that purpose, empirical data obtained from semi-structured interviews and secondary sources is analyzed under the light of social justice literature which is marked by socioeconomic justice - symbolic justice dichotomy and liberalism – communitarianism debate. The results of the study suggest that although both movements intend to formulate their own claims of justice within a liberal perspective, the impact of Kemalism and Islam on republican and Islamic civil society organizations is decisive. The power of Islam and Kemalism against liberalism can particularly be better observed in the arguments which they formulate for opposing the claims of other groups

    Leiurus abdullahbayrami sp. nov. is described from Southeastern Turkey and compared with other species of the genus, in particular with L. quinquestriatus, which was previously misidentified from Turkey. The new species is readily distinguished from other members of the genus by pedipalp chela and metasomal segments that are distinctly shorter than in L. quinquestriatus; metasomal segment V has large and rounded lobes; trichobothrium db on the fixed finger of pedipalp is located between trichobothria est and esb (in L. quinquestriatus it is located between et and est). All known Turkish populations of Leiurus were examined and found to represent the new species

    Küreselleşme, bilgi teknolojilerinin gelişmesi, hizmetlerin çeşitliliği ve hızlı büyümesi ile günümüzde kurumlar rekabet ortamında önde olmak ve sürdürülebilirlik için kurumsal imaj araştırmalarına önem vermeye başlamışlardır. Kurumsal bir yapı olan üniversitelerin kurumsal imajını belirleyen birçok farklı kriter mevcuttur. Öğrencilerin üniversiteleri ile ilgili olarak kurumsal imajını algılama düzeyi, üniversitenin potansiyel adaylar için tercih oranını da etkilediği gibi üniversitenin prestiji açısından da önemlidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Atatürk Üniversitesi’ne bağlı fakültelerde eğitim görmekte olan öğrencilerin üniversiteye dair kurumsal imaj algılarını belirlemektir. Üniversite imaj algısının belirlenmesi amacıyla 2019-2020 eğitim öğretim yılında öğrenim gören altı yüz öğrenciye anket uygulanmıştır. Nicel bir araştırma yöntemi kullanılmış olup, elde edilen veriler SPSS 26 programı yardımıyla aritmetik ortalama, standart sapma, t-testi ve tek yönlü varyans (ANOVA) analizlerine tabi tutulmuştur. Araştırma bulguları katılımcıların aylık harcama ve bölüm hakkındaki ön bilgi değişkenleri ile kurumsal imaj algıları arasında anlamlı farklılık olduğunu ancak fakülte, cinsiyet ve yaşadıkları bölge değişkenlerine göre anlamlı bir farklılığın olmadığını göstermiştir. Katılımcıların Atatürk Üniversitesi’ne yönelik genel kurumsal imaj algılarının “orta düzeyde” olduğu belirlenmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarının üniversite yönetimi için önemli olan veri kalitesine sahip olduğu söylenebilir

    DP600 ve HSLA300 Sac Malzemelerde Geri Esneme Davranışlarına Proses Parametrelerinin Etkisinin Deneysel Araştırılması

    Bu çalışmada sac metal malzemelerin oda sıcaklığında bükülerek şekillendirilmesi sonrası gözlenen ve şekillendirmede istenmeyen bir durum olan geri esneme davranışı deneysel olarak araştırılmıştır. Çalışmada DP600 ve HSLA300 sac malzemeler farklı kalıp açılarında ve ütüleme sürelerinde V bükme yöntemiyle şekillendirilmiştir. Çalışma sonunda ütüleme süresinin 10 saniye artmasıyla elastik gerilmelerin kalıcı gerilmelere dönüşmesinden dolayı geri esneme açısının DP600 sac malzemede ortalama %14,8, HSLA sac malzemede ise ortalama %9,7 azaldığı tespit edilmiştir. Kalıp açısının artmasıyla elastik gerilim miktarının da artmasından dolayı her iki malzemede de esneme açısının arttığı, açının büyümesiyle de elastik gerilmelerin dar bir alanda hapsolmasından dolayı da esnemenin daha sonra azaldığı belirlenmiştir. DP600 sac malzemede 15 derece kalıp açısından 45 derece kalıp açısına kadar esnemenin ortalama %15,2 arttığı, 45 dereceden sonra ise %27,6 azaldığı tespit edilmiştir. HSLA sac malzemede ise 15 derece kalıp açısından 30 derece kalıp açısına kadar esnemenin önce ortalama %10,4 arttığı, 30 dereceden sonra ise %26,4 azaldığı gözlenmiştir. Ayrıca DP600 sac malzemenin sertliğinin HSLA sac malzemeden daha yüksek olmasından dolayı oluşan geri esneme değerinin HSLA sac malzemeye göre %12,3 daha yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir

    Comparison of Antioxidant Activity of Roccella phycopsis Ach. (Roccellaceae) and Flavoparmelia caperata L. Hale (Parmeliaceae) Lichens

    The antioxidant activity of Roccella phycopsis Ach. and Flavoparmelia caperata L. Hale lichens was determined by their ability to scavenge free radicals like DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) and ABTS (2,2’-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiaziline-6-sulfonate). Total phenolic and flavonoid contents, metal chelating activity and reducing power of the extracs were also measured. Both lichens species displayed noticeable antioxidant activity. The total flavonoid content of methanol and ethanol extracts of the lichens ranged from 110.06±0.004 µg/mL to 154.1±0.007 µg/mL and from 40.96±0.005 µg/mL to 65.23±0.007 µg/mL, respectively. F. caperata lichen showed higher ferric reducing antioxidant power and DPPH radical quenching activity than R. phycopsis lichen. Based on the obtained results, this lichen species are natural sources of antioxidant substances

    A new scorpion species, Euscorpius alanyaensis sp. n., is described based on specimens collected from the Taurus Mountains in Antalya Province (Alanya District) in southern Turkey. It is a sibling species of the recently described E. gocmeni Tropea et al., 2014, and similarly, the new species is also characterized by a high trichobothrial count (Pv = 9–11, et = 7, em = 4, and eb = 4), a high pectinal teeth count (Dp = 9–11 in males, 8 in females), medium-small size, and light to medium brown-reddish colour. In addition, for the first time a phylogenetic analysis (concatenated sequences of 16S rDNA and COI) is performed to reconstruct the relationships between E. gocmeni Tropea et al., 2014, E. koci Tropea et Yağmur, 2015, E. lycius Yağmur et al., 2013, E. avcii Tropea et al., 2012 from Turkey, and the new species herein described, E. alanyaensis sp. n

    N-Cds:(Sn)/P-Cdte:(Cu,N) Heteroeklem Güneş Gözesinin Ultrasonik Spray Pyrolysis Tekniği Ile Üretilmesi Ve Karakterizasyonu

    Bu çalışmada, güneş hücreleri yapımının oldukça yaygın üyeleri olan CdS ve CdTe yarıiletken filmleri, ekonomik ve basit kullanımıyla diğer üretim sitemlerinden ayrılan Ultrasonik Kimyasal Püskürtme Tekniği (UKPT) ile 225±5 °C (CdTe) ve 350±5 °C (CdS) sıcaklıklarda ITO tabanlar üzerine üretilmiştir. Üretilen bu filmler farklı katkı atomları ile katkılanarak bazı fiziksel özelliklerindeki değişimlerin gözlenmesi için hazır hale getirilmiştir. Geçirgenlik, soğurma ve yansıma spektrumları alınmış, bu spektrumlardan yararlanarak optik özellikleri belirlenmiştir. Dört uç tekniği kullanılarak filmlerin elektriksel özellikleri incelenmiş ve elektriksel iletkenlikleri hesaplanmıştır. CdTe ince filmlerinin x-ışını kırınım (XRD) desenlerinden faydalanılarak filmlerini polikristal yapıda oldukları belirlenmiştir. İnce filmlerin tercihli yönelimleri hesaplanmıştır. SEM ve AFM analizleri sonucunda CdTe ve CdS ince filmleri için yüzeysel özellikler de belirlenmiştir.In this study, CdS and CdTe semiconductor films which is the most important members of solar cells production were prepared on ITO substrates by Ultrasonic Spray Pyrolysis (USP) which is simple and low cost technique at substrate temperature of 225±5 °C (CdTe) ve 350±5 °C (CdS). After undoped thin films deposition process, the deposited CdS and CdTe thin films have been doped with different atoms and observed some physical properties. Transmittance, absorption and reflection spectra were taken and these spectrums use to determine optical properties. The electrical properties of the films were measured by four-point probe and determined their electrical resistivities. It has been determined from x-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns that CdTe films have polycrystalline structure. The surface properties of the films were determined by SEM and AFM analysis

    Evaluation of Inner Ear Damage by Using Otoacoustic Emissions in Patients Who Underwent Mastoidectomy and Tympanoplasty Operations in the Early Period

    Objective:We aim to demonstrate inner ear damage caused by drilling in the early period. Healthy contralateral ears of patients who underwent mastoidectomy using drill or tympanoplasty without using drill were compared.Methods:A total of 38 patients (mastoidectomy: 22, tympanoplasty: 16) who were diagnosed as chronic otitis media and were scheduled for surgery were included. Distortion product (dp) otoacoustic emissions measurements were performed on healthy contralateral ears of patients on pre- and post-operative 1. hour, 1. day, 2. day, 3. day, and 4. day.Results:In mastoidectomy group, dp otoacoustic emission values on post-operative 1. hour, 1. day, 2. day, 3. day, and 4. day at a frequency of 4000 Hz were significantly lower than in tympanoplasty group (p<0.05). In mastoidectomy group, dp values on post-operative 1. hour, 1. day, 2. day, 3. day, and 4. day at 4000 Hz significantly decreased in comparison with pre-operative period (p<0.05). In comparison with pre-operative period, decrease in dp values on post-operative 1. hour, 1. day, and 2. day at 4000 Hz in mastoidectomy group is significantly higher than those in tympanoplasty group (p<0.05). In tympanoplasty group, dp values on post-operative 1. hour at 4000 Hz significantly decreased in comparison with pre-operative period (p<0.05).Conclusion:Drilling used in mastoidectomy operation damage healthy contralateral ears by causing acoustic trauma. This damage can be determined by otoacoustic emissions in the early period. According to our study, hearing loss is temporary and more distinct at higher frequencies

    S-Genotype Profiles of Turkish Apricot Germplasm

    In flowering plants, gametophytic self-incompatibility, controlled by a single locus with several allelic variants, is one of the major problems preventing self-fertilization. Among fruit trees, apricots show to a high degree self-incompatibility, especially in Middle-Asian and Iranian-Caucasian eco-geographical groups. In the present study, self-(in)compatibility characteristics of a total of 236 apricot genotypes (218 Turkish and 18 foreign) found within the National Apricot Germplasms of Apricot Research Institute in Malatya, Turkey was studied. Analyses were carried out by using four primer pairs (SRc-F and SRc-R, EM-PC2consFD and EM-PC3consRD, AprSC8-R and PaConsI-F, AprFBC8-F and AprFBC8-R). A total of 11 S-RNase alleles (S2, S3, S6, S7, S8, S9, S11, S12, S13, S20 and Sc) were determined in the 236 apricot genotypes. As Turkish and foreign apricot genotypes are determined mostly self-incompatible, the data obtained hereby might be of good use for apricot breeding programs and more practically, for apricot new plantations; thus pollinator cultivars should be considered when self-incompatible apricot cultivars are being used

    Long-Term, High-Frequency Tympanometry and Audiometry Results after Cartilage and Fascia Tympanoplasty

    Objective:Fascia or cartilage can be used as grafts in tympanoplasty; however, the disadvantage of cartilage is that it causes stiffness and rigidity in the newly formed tympanic membrane. The aim of this study was to compare the long-term high-frequency tympanometry and audiometry outcomes of tympanoplasty using cartilage and fascia.Methods:Forty patients in whom tragal cartilage was used in type 1 tympanoplasty and 40 patients in whom temporal muscle fascia was used were included in the study. The preoperative and postoperative audiometries of the two groups were compared. Postoperative high-frequency tympanometry (224, 668, 800, and 1000 Hz) and air volume, compliance, and pressure differences of the two groups were also compared.Results:The mean age of the patients was 31.3±4.5 year. The success rates were 96% in the cartilage group and 92% in the fascia group. In the fascia group, the preoperative mean air bone gap was 27.9±97 decibels (dB), and the postoperative mean air bone gap was 19.1±7.6 dB. The postoperative mean air bone gap improvement was 8.8±9.9 dB; the difference was statistically significant. In the cartilage group, the preoperative mean air bone gap was 28.2±9.6 dB, and the postoperative mean air bone gap was 17.2±10.5 dB. The postoperative mean air bone gap improvement was 10.9±10.3 dB; the difference was statistically significant. When postoperative mean air bone gap improvement was compared, there was no statistical difference between the two groups. When high-frequency tympanogram values were compared, there were no significant differences between the two groups at 224, 668, 800, or 1000 Hz frequencies in terms of air volume, compliance, or pressure values.Conclusion:The use of temporal muscle fascia and cartilage in tympanoplasty is statistically similar when compared in terms of tympanic membrane repair, hearing gain, air volume, pressure, and compliance. For this reason, cartilage graft can easily be preferred in tympanoplasty, especially in revision cases and adhesive otitis media, without fear of stiffness or rigidity effects
