放射光でついに見えた磁気オクタポール --熱を電気に変える新たな担い手--. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2021-09-27.Recently found anomalous Hall, Nernst, magnetooptical Kerr, and spin Hall effects in the antiferromagnets Mn₃X (X = Sn, Ge) are attracting much attention for spintronics and energy harvesting. Since these materials are antiferromagnets, the origin of these functionalities is expected to be different from that of conventional ferromagnets. Here, we report the observation of ferroic order of magnetic octupole in Mn₃Sn by X-ray magnetic circular dichroism, which is only predicted theoretically so far. The observed signals are clearly decoupled with the behaviors of uniform magnetization, indicating that the present X-ray magnetic circular dichroism is not arising from the conventional magnetization. We have found that the appearance of this anomalous signal coincides with the time reversal symmetry broken cluster magnetic octupole order. Our study demonstrates that the exotic material functionalities are closely related to the multipole order, which can produce unconventional cross correlation functionalities

Pancreatic cancer is often detected in a far advanced stage and the prognosis is still extremely poor. A clinicopathological study was made on 49 patients with Stage IVb pancreatic cancer treated at our department from March 1994 to February 2002. In this study, patient factors (age and gender), tumor factors (hepatic metastasis, peritoneal dissemination, and distant metastasis), and treatment factors (systemic chemotherapy, intra- and postoperative radiotherapy, some treatments to hepatic metastasis, and surgical resection) were examined, and the survival was evaluated statistically. Overall mean survival was 150 days and the 1-year survival rate was 0%. With multivariate analysis, prognostic factors were hepatic metastasis, peritoneal dissemination and some treatments to hepatic metastasis. In advanced pancreatic cancer with hepatic metastasis, the prognostic factor was just some treatments to hepatic metastasis. Systemic chemotherapy with somatostatin analog was ineffective. At present we use either gemcitabine or 5FU in systemic chemotherapy for Stage IVb pancreatic cancers without hepatic metastasis, and conduct hepatic arterial infusion therapy for those with hepatic metastasis

Gesture Recognition using HLAC Features of PARCOR Images and HMM based Recognizer

This paper proposes a gesture recognition method which uses higher order local autocorrelation (HLAC) features extracted from PARCOR images. To extract dominant information from a sequence of images, we apply linear prediction coding technique to the sequence of pixel values and PARCOR images are constructed from the PARCOR coefficients of the sequences of the pixel values. From the PARCOR images, HLAC features are extracted and the sequences of the features are used as the input vectors of the Hidden Marcov Model (HMM) based recognizer. Since HLAC features are inherently shift-invariant and computationally inexpensive, the proposed method becomes robust to changes of shift of the person's position and makes real-time gesture recognition possible. Experimental results of gesture recognition are shown to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. 1. Introduction Recently interest in gesture recognition has been rapidly increasing because of its broad range of applicability in nat..

The delocalization of protons in HZSM-5 type zeolite films was investigated by the complex impedance method. The conductivities under various water vapor pressures were calculated from both the Cole-Cole plot analysis and the impedance at 1 kHz. The conductivity of HZSM-5 (Al) zeolite film with 170 of SiO2/Al2O3 ratio was strongly dependent on the water vapor pressure and increased with an increase inthe vapor pressure. On the other hand, the conductivities of the silicalite film (SiO2/Al2O3 ratio > 5000) and the pellet prepared by compressing the powdery HZSM-5 zeolite with 173 of SiO2/Al2O3 ratio hardly increased with the water vapor pressure. The conductivities of HZSM-5 type metallosilicates (HZSM-5 (Ga) and HZSM-5 (Fe)) films were also measured. From the results obtained, it was concluded that (1) the acidic sites associated with the framework aluminums are the active centers for the proton conductivity, (2) adsorbed water molecules are responsible for the conduction and (3) the polycrystalline zeolite film is very effective for estimation of proton mobility
