    An Eco-friendly Approach for Nanosilver Synthesis and its Therapeutic Aspects

    Nanosciences along with the emergence of nanobiotechnolgy and nanomedicine in the last few decades provided a number of opportunities for exploring the bactericidal and fungicidal activities of metal nanoparticles. In the present scenario silver in the form of nanoparticles are playing a major role in the field of Nanotechnology and Nano medicine, their unique size dependent properties make them superior and indispensable. Silver nanoparticles are particles in the size ranging between 1 and 100 nm. Although nanoparticles can be synthesized through array of conventional methods, biological route of synthesizing are good competent over the physical and chemical techniques. Green principle route of synthesizing have emerged as alternative to overcome the limitation of conventional methods among which plant and microorganisms are majorly exploited. Employing plants towards synthesis of nanoparticles are emerging as advantageous compared to microbes with the presence of  broad variability of bio-molecules in plants can act as capping and reducing agents and thus increases the rate of reduction and stabilization. In addition, the biological synthesis of metallic nanoparticles is inexpensive, single step and eco-friendly methods. Nanosilver has developed as a potent antibacterial, antifungal, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory agent and also in diagnostic and therapeutic applications. The aim of this review is to provide an overview of recent trends in synthesizing nanoparticles via biological entities and their potential applications.     Management of lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) by local infiltration of platelet rich plasma an outcome study

    Background: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been recently the emerging biological therapy in which a large pool of signals released from platelets producing a biological microenvironment for local and migrating cells for tissue regeneration. A prospective randomized observational study was done to assess the efficacy of autologous PRP injection in lateral epicondylitis of elbow.Methods: A total 100 patients of lateral epicondylitis were selected and treated from December 2015 to November 2017. VAS (visual analogue scale) and PRTEE (patient rated tennis elbow evaluation) scoring were used for clinical and functional assessment at pre-injection, 2nd week, 4th week, 3rd month and 6th month.Results: At the end of 6 months follow-up 61% patients were completely relieved of pain. 34% patients had mild pain that was significantly decreased (p value <0.0001) from mean VAS (75) and mean PRTEE (78.62) to mean VAS (6.05) and mean PRTEE (5.63). 5 patients were lost their 6 months follow-up. There was a significant increase in post intervention pain for few days in 70% patients. Recurrence rate of 0% was noted at the end of 6 months follow-up.Conclusions: An injection of PRP improves pain and function in patients suffering from lateral epicondylitis

    A RANDOMIZED CONTROL STUDY TO EVALUATE THE ROLE OF HERBAL IMMUNOMODULATORS IN BOOSTING THE IMMUNITY AND OVERALL HEALTH OF HEALTHCARE WORKERS IN COVID-19 WARDS: AN EXPLORATORY, FEEDBACK CLINICAL STUDY

    Objective: The objective of the study was to evaluate the role of the herbal immunomodulators Immusante and Guduchi in boosting the immunity and overall health of healthcare workers assigned to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) wards. Methods: An open-label, randomized, prospective, and single center clinical study was conducted among 100 healthcare workers assigned to COVID-19 wards. Eligible subjects (50 in each arm) were randomly assigned to either arm I (Immusante+Guduchi tablets) or arm II (treatment as per the institutional policy). Assessments after 30 days of treatment included respiratory symptoms, Adapted Immune Status Questionnaire (ISQ), improvement in quality of life (Short form 12 [SF-12] Health Survey), and safety and tolerability. Results: All 100 subjects completed the study as per the protocol. There were no respiratory symptoms in the subjects in arm 1. However, four subjects (8%) in arm II reported cough during the study period. A better Immune status improvement was seen through the adapted ISQ in arm I as compared to arm II. In each of the 8 SF-12 Health Survey domains, a statistically significant difference was observed in arm I compared to arm II. A retrospective assessment of COVID-19 infection showed only 8% of subjects as COVID-19 positive in arm I compared with 26% of subjects in arm II. Conclusion: Considering the positive trend observed in this study in terms of ISQ, SF-12, and COVID-19 infection rates, the combination of Immusante and Guduchi in healthcare workers at a high risk of contracting COVID-19 infection had a beneficial effect in boosting immunity and overall health

    Bryde’s Whale (Balaenoptera edeni Anderson, 1879) measuring 10.4 m in length and weighing about 7 tons was found washed ashore on the beach of Veraval on 4th august 2017. Locally called as “Machchh” it was found in dead condition with small injuries in the caudal peduncle and genital region.     Aim To study the genetic structure of the Scheduled Caste population of Rajasthan and its relationship with Indian and global populations using expanded 20 CODIS STR loci (autosomal) markers. Subjects and methods Blood samples of 226 healthy, unrelated adult individuals of the Scheduled Caste population of the Indian state of Rajasthan were taken from the routine casework of authors after obtaining written informed consent. Autosomal STR markers included in PowerPlex® Fusion 5 C and GlobalFiler™ PCR amplification kits were used to explore the genetic diversity of the studied population. Amplicons were separated using Genetic Analyser 3500XL as per the recommended protocol. Results Observed heterozygosity for the studied population ranged from 0.681(CSF1PO) to 0.881 (D1S1656).Combined Discrimination Power and Combined Exclusion Power were observed as 1 and 0.9999999852, respectively. The highest Discrimination Power was observed for the locus D1S1656. In the population comparison test, Nei’s Da distance-based Neighbor-Joining (NJ) dendrogram revealed two significant clusters of geographically close Indian and East Asian populations along with a few small groups of outlier populations. Conclusion The matching probability for 20 STR markers was observed as 7.02 × 10−24 and paternity index as 5.55 × 107. These values play a key role in forensic applications.The studied population showed a higher genetic affinity with geographically closer populations than the distant ones. This caste-based population data is expected to play an important role in forensic DNA applications and genetic studies

    Introduction. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is excessive fat build-up in the liver due to causes other than alcohol use. Aim. To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Liv.52 DS tablets in the management of NAFLD. Material and methods. Prospective, interventional clinical study conducted on 60 patients of both sex, aged between 18-65 years, confirmed with NAFLD from clinical examination, laboratory test, ultrasound findings and those willing to give informed consent. All patients received Liv.52 DS at a dose of 2 tablets twice daily for 2 months. All patients were evaluated at baseline, end of 1st month, and end of 2nd month for liver function tests, hepatomegaly by ultrasound, NAFLD Fibrosis Score, lipid profile, hematology and biochemical investigations. Results. Study data was analyzed with GraphPad Prism Software Version 6.07. Data of those patients who completed the study was considered for analysis. Significant improvement in hepatomegaly, liver enzymes was observed. NAFLD fibrosis score revealed no progression of liver fibrosis due to NAFLD during the study period. No abnormal lab values were recorded and there were no adverse events reported during the study. Conclusion. Study concludes that Liv.52 DS is safe and beneficial in individuals suffering from NAFLD

    Influence of Soil Physio-chemical Properties and Available Nutrient Status by Organic Growth Promoters under Pea (Pisum sativum L.) Cultivation

    A field experiment was conducted at Vegetable Farm, Department of Vegetable Science, College of Horticulture and Forestry, Jhalawar (Rajasthan) during rabi season 2021-2022 on pea. The experiment consisted thirteen treatments of organic growth promoters viz. Panchagavya @ 2 %, Panchagavya @ 4%, Panchagavya @ 6 %, Jeevamrut @ 2%, Jeevamrut @ 4%, Jeevamrut @ 6 % and Brahmastra @ 2%, Brahmastra @4%, Brahmastra @6% and vermiwash @ 5%, vermiwash @10%, vermiwash @15% and Control) and laid out in randomized block design with three replications. Results revealed that the maximum pod yield (169.93 q/ha) of pea was recorded with foliar spray of Panchagavya @ 4 % over control. However, it was found at par with foliar spray of vermiwash @ 10% and vermiwash @15% on pea. The foliar spray of growth promotors did not significantly influence soil physio-chemical properties i.e. soil pH, electrical conductivity and organic carbon after harvest of the crop. The maximum available nitrogen (341.0 kg/ha) was recorded under application of Panchagavya @ 4% and minimum available nitrogen (337.2 kg/ha) in control. Available phosphorus (kg/ha) and potassium did not significantly influence by different growth promotors in the soil after harvest of the crop

    THE ROLE OF HERBAL IMMUNOMODULATORS AS ADJUVANT THERAPY FOR ASYMPTOMATIC AND MILDLY SYMPTOMATIC COVID-19: AN EXPLORATORY CLINICAL STUDY

    Objectives: The objective of the study is to evaluate herbal immunomodulators (Septilin and Bresol) as a possible adjuvant therapy for the treatment of asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic COVID-19. Methods: Randomized, open-label, comparative clinical study. Subjects were randomized to either arm I [Septilin and Bresol+standard of care (SOC)] or arm II (SOC). This study was registered on CTRI (CTRI/2020/06/025801). Results: Subjects in arm I showed a greater reduction in levels of interleukin-6 tumor necrosis factor-α following treatment than in arm II. Subjects in arm I showed a greater increase in levels of interferon (IFN)-β and IFN-λ than those in arm II. There was a greater reduction in D-dimer in arm I than in arm II subjects (64.28% vs. 35.59%) and all arm I subjects had D-dimer values in the normal range compared to 70% of arm II subjects. There were statistically significant reduction in lactate dehydrogenase and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio in arm I (p<0.016 and p<0.013, respectively). Clinical assessments during the post-illness convalescence period showed significant improvements in fatigue assessment scores and quality of life. Conclusion: This herbal combination as an adjuvant to SOC may provide additional long-term benefits in COVID-19 infection by reducing inflammation. This treatment may offer a good addendum for the management of post-COVID-19 illness

    Introduction. Haemorrhoids and anal fissures are considered as the most common anorectal conditions. Aim. To evaluate the safety and efficacy of Pilex Forte tablets in combination with Pilex Ointment as compared to the Standard of Care in common anorectal conditions. Material and methods. Randomized, open-label, controlled comparative clinical study conducted on 162 patients of either sex, aged between 18-50 years, confirmed with common anorectal conditions. As per randomization, patients received either standard of care or Pilex Forte tablet along with Pilex Ointment at a recommended dose of two tablets twice daily and twice daily local application (anal) for a period of 4 weeks. Clinical safety and efficacy assessments were carried out at study specific scheduled visits. Laboratory assessments were carried out only at screening and at the end of the study. Results. Patients who completed the study were considered for statistical analysis. Significant clinical improvement was observed in patients with anorectal conditions who received Pilex Forte tablet and Pilex Ointment than to those who received standards of care. No abnormal lab values were recorded and there were no adverse events reported during the study period. Conclusion. Pilex Forte tablet along with Pilex Ointment at recommended dose is safe and effective in the management of anorectal conditions like haemorrhoids and fissure-in-ano
