Design aesthetics recommender system based on customer profile and wanted affect

Product recommendation systems have been instrumental in online commerce since the early days. Their development is expanded further with the help of big data and advanced deep learning methods, where consumer profiling is central. The interest of the consumer can now be predicted based on the personal past choices and the choices of similar consumers. However, what is currently defined as a choice is based on quantifiable data, like product features, cost, and type. This paper investigates the possibility of profiling customers based on the preferred product design and wanted affects. We considered the case of vase design, where we study individual Kansei of each design. The personal aspects of the consumer considered in this study were decided based on our literature review conclusions on the consumer response to product design. We build a representative consumer model that constitutes the recommendation system's core using deep learning. It asks the new consumers to provide what affect they are looking for, through Kansei adjectives, and recommend; as a result, the aesthetic design that will most likely cause that affect.Comment: 11 pages, 10 figures, peer-reviewed at the KEER 2022 conferenc

Quasinormal mode spectrum of the AdS black hole with the Robin boundary condition

We study the quasinormal mode (QNM) spectrum of an asymptotically AdS black hole with the Robin boundary condition at infinity. We consider the Schwarzshild-AdS4_4 with the flat event horizon as the background spacetime and study its scalar field perturbation. Denoting leading coefficients of slow- and fast-decay modes of the scalar field at infinity as ϕ1\phi_1 and ϕ2\phi_2, respectively, we assume a linear relation between them as ϕ2=cot(θ/2)ϕ1\phi_2 = \cot(\theta/2) \phi_1, where θ\theta is a constant called the Robin parameter and periodic under θθ+2π\theta\sim\theta+2\pi. In a certain range of the Robin parameter, there is an instability driven by the boundary condition. We also find the holonomy in the QNM spectrum under the parametric cycle of the boundary condition: θ=02π\theta=0\to2\pi. After the one-cycle, nn-th overtone of the QNM moves to (n1)(n-1)-th overtone. The fundamental tone of the QNM is swept out to the infinity in the complex plane.Comment: 20 pages, 8 figure

Many factors are associated with a person’s attitude formation and intention towards a behavior. In this study, we examined organizational factors that helped form young athletes attitudes regarding their future plans in high performance sport. Through a mixed method survey design, data was collected from 207 young pre-elite athletes who competed during the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in Bahamas. Several organizationally controlled aspects of the games environment were found to contribute to young athlete’s satisfaction with the event including their accommodations, available information regarding their sport and finally, the social and cultural activities during games-time. However, satisfaction with the games environment was not predictive of young athletes future intentions to remain in sport. Qualitative thematic coding denoted two key themes related to athlete plans to continue in high performance sport: level of satisfaction and learning. Further, qualitative results revealed five main impediments to continuing in high performance sport specifically, physiological, psychological, performance, environment and life concerns. The paper contributes to our understanding of the controllable and uncontrollable social and environmental factors in a multi-sport international event. Nationally controlled factors that influence young athletes attitude formation, specifically their satisfaction and intentions to remain in sport

© 2020 The Author(s). Published by Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group. The current study aimed to examine the relationships among residents’ impact perception of 2019 Rugby World Cup (i.e. economic impact, cultural interests and new opportunity, community pride, and environmental impact), psychological capital (i.e. hope, self-efficacy, optimism, and resilience), and psychological well-being. The two-wave time-lagged data were collected from residents in the host cities (a following week of the event and eight weeks after the event; N = 206). The results indicated that residents’ perceptions of event impacts were positively associated with psychological capital, which influenced psychological well-being over time. Cultural interests and community pride were considered particularly influential in enhancing residents’ psychological well-being. The findings are useful for policy makers, planning to utilize mega events to boost residents’ psychological well-being

A Spectrum Sharing Method Based on Users' Behavior and Providers' Profit

    Get PDF
In recent years, spectrum sharing has received much attention as a technique for more efficient spectrum use. In the case in which all providers are cooperative, spectrum sensing can easily be realized and can improve user throughput (on average). If that is not the case, providers are not cooperative, i.e., spectrum trading, spectrum bands are rented to promote spectrum sharing. To ensure more profit, however, non-cooperative providers must correctly estimate the fluctuation of the number of connected users to be able to determine the offered channel price. In this paper, we propose a spectrum sharing method to achieve both higher throughput and provider profit via appropriate pricing using a disaggregate behavioral model. Finally, we confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method using simulation experiments

GABPα regulates Oct-3/4 expression in mouse embryonic stem cells

金沢大学大学院医学系研究科機能再生学Embryonic stem (ES) cells are pluripotent cells derived from the inner cell mass of blastocysts, and transcription factors Oct-3/4, Nanog, Sox2, and STAT3, are essential for their self-renewal. In this study, we searched for molecules downstream of STAT3 in ES cells. Using DNA chip analysis, we obtained GA-repeat binding protein (GABP) α. Expression of GABPα was restricted to undifferentiated ES cells and controlled by STAT3. We found that the expression level of Oct-3/4 is reduced by knockdown of GABPα. On the other hand, GABPα-overexpressing ES cells maintained the expression level of Oct-3/4 even in the absence of LIF. Moreover, the induction of Oct-3/4 repressors Cdx-2, Coup-tf1, and GCNF was stimulated by GABPα knockdown. These data suggest that GABPα upregulates the expression of Oct-3/4 via downregulation of Oct-3/4 repressors. © 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved

Molecular diagnosis of an infant with TSC2/PKD1 contiguous gene syndrome

    Get PDF
A 1-month-old Japanese infant with cardiac rhabdomyoma was diagnosed with TSC2/PKD1 contiguous gene syndrome by targeted panel sequencing with subsequent quantitative polymerase chain reaction that revealed gross monoallelic deletion, including parts of two genes: exons 19–42 of TSC2 and exons 2–46 of PKD1. Early molecular diagnosis can help to detect bilateral renal cyst formation and multidisciplinary follow-up of this multisystem disease

A randomized phase III study of short-course radiotherapy combined with Temozolomide in elderly patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma; Japan clinical oncology group study JCOG1910 (AgedGlio-PIII)

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND: The current standard treatment for elderly patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma is surgery followed by short-course radiotherapy with temozolomide. In recent studies, 40 Gy in 15 fractions vs. 60 Gy in 30 fractions, 34 Gy in 10 fractions vs. 60 Gy in 30 fractions, and 40 Gy in 15 fractions vs. 25 Gy in 5 fractions have been reported as non-inferior. The addition of temozolomide increased the survival benefit of radiotherapy with 40 Gy in 15 fractions. However, the optimal regimen for radiotherapy plus concomitant temozolomide remains unresolved. METHODS: This multi-institutional randomized phase III trial was commenced to confirm the non-inferiority of radiotherapy comprising 25 Gy in 5 fractions with concomitant (150 mg/m2/day, 5 days) and adjuvant temozolomide over 40 Gy in 15 fractions with concomitant (75 mg/m2/day, every day from first to last day of radiation) and adjuvant temozolomide in terms of overall survival (OS) in elderly patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma. A total of 270 patients will be accrued from 51 Japanese institutions in 4 years and follow-up will last 2 years. Patients 71 years of age or older, or 71-75 years old with resection of less than 90% of the contrast-enhanced region, will be registered and randomly assigned to each group with 1:1 allocation. The primary endpoint is OS, and the secondary endpoints are progression-free survival, frequency of adverse events, proportion of Karnofsky performance status preservation, and proportion of health-related quality of life preservation. The Japan Clinical Oncology Group Protocol Review Committee approved this study protocol in April 2020. Ethics approval was granted by the National Cancer Center Hospital Certified Review Board. Patient enrollment began in August 2020. DISCUSSION: If the primary endpoint is met, short-course radiotherapy comprising 25 Gy in 5 fractions with concomitant and adjuvant temozolomide will be a standard of care for elderly patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma. The incidence of leptomeningeal carcinomatosis is increasing with the extension of the survival because of the advances in cancer treatment. This condition significantly deteriorates the patients\u27 quality of life (QOL) and worsens the prognosis. Because the reduction of neurological symptoms can be expected to improve the QOL, it is necessary to reexamine the indications for surgical treatment of leptomeningeal carcinomatosis. We report three cases of surgically treated leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, and we review the literature, including past cases, with regard to the indications for surgical treatment. Case 1: A 56-year-old man was diagnosed with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis with multiple brain metastases from lung cancer. Whole-brain irradiation was performed, followed by systemic chemotherapy, which was discontinued because of the development of a consciousness disorder. As the patient’s performance status (PS) improved after ventricular drainage, ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt was performed. Postoperatively, the consciousness disorder improved, and treatment was restarted. The patient’s PS and QOL improved; he was able to live a relatively good daily life. However, he died 3 months after the surgery because of deterioration of his general condition resulting from the side effects of nivolumab. Case 2: A 55-year-old woman diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma complained of headaches. She was diagnosed with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis and underwent systemic chemotherapy, including epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Her symptoms initially improved; however, after a while, the headaches and nausea worsened and her PS deteriorated. The ventricular drainage improved her PS; therefore, VP shunt was performed. Postoperatively, her PS and QOL improved and she was switched to palliative care as the nausea and pain became controllable. However, she died because of deterioration of her general condition 4 months after the surgery. Case 3: A 66-year-old woman complaining of headaches was diagnosed with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis associated with lung cancer. Because pain control was difficult and her PS was reduced, ventricular drainage was performed. Postoperatively, pain control became possible and her PS improved. Although treatment with erlotinib was started, the patient could not undergo VP shunt because of deterioration of her general condition resulting from an interstitial pneumonia, and she died 44 days after the ventricular drainage
