『にごりえ』と内田魯庵訳『罪と罰』 : お力・ラスコーリニコフの表現比較

樋口一葉は近代日本における最初の職業的女性作家である。しかし、小説としては源氏物語や西鶴など伝統文芸の系譜のなかにあり、もっぱら古文で書いたということもあって旧派とみなされてきた。実際、代表作の『たけくらべ』（一八九五年）や『にごりえ』（同）は、遊郭や銘酒屋街という前近代的な場所における人間模様を扱ったもので、一見モダンを感じさせるものではない。とりわけ男女の凄惨な死で唐突に終わる『にごりえ』の評価は、代表作とされながら分かれるところもあった。ストーリー的に無理があるのだが、作品の魅力は疑いなく、すでに古典の地位を得ている。本稿は『にごりえ』の三年前に内田魯庵により邦訳された『罪と罰』が一葉に与えたインパクトを明らかにする。孤独地獄のラスコーリニコフに重なる虚無的なヒロインお力の検証を通じ、古い言語表現のなかに息づく一葉の先導的なモダニズムを検証する。HIGUCHI Ichiyoh (1872-96) is the first female author in modern Japan. However she has been considered as a traditionist under the influence of Murasaki Shikibu or other classic writers and wrote herself only in Kobun (archaic writing). “Nigori-e” (1895) is her most important work, which describes the harlot O-Riki’s complexed mental state and her sudden death (maybe murdered!). There has been an argument on the story about it’s defect or not. But even now it attracts many readers and itself has becom a classic. Three years before “Nigori-e”, “Crime and Punishment” by Dostoyevsky was translated in japanese by UCHIDA Roan. I think it gave a shock to Ichiyoh. Lonely O-Riki’s behavior especially overlaps Raskolnikov’s alley wanderings after the crime. Through their nihilistic sayings and doing, I will find Ichiyoh’s unexpected modernity in Japanese literature

Calibration of the superconducting gravimeter TT70 #016 at Syowa Station by parallel observation with the absolute gravimeter FG5 #203

For the purpose ofcalibration ofthe superconducting gravimeter model TT70 #016 at Syowa Station,Antarctica,we carried out parallel observations with the absolute gravimeter FG5 #203 from December 29, 2000 to January 25, 2001. During the FG5 measurements,the laser stability was sometimes not good and this caused irregular data.We carefully examined the relation between laser stability and gravity values,and took it into account for the removal of abnormal data.We applied linear regression to the selected SG and FG /data set,and obtained the value of -58.168 μGal/V to an accuracy of 0.10% for the scale factor of TT 70 #016.The difference of the obtained scale factor from the previous value of -57.965 μGal/V is about 0.35%

Normal chemotactic activity of granulocytes obtained by filtration leucapheresis

The chemotactic activity of granulocytes obtained by the Terumo Filtration Leucapheresis System (F.L.) was examined by the method of Boyden's chamber. The number of cells migrating through the Millipore filter was expressed as the chemotactic activity. The mean values were 117 for the F.L. and 122 in a control, in which cells were collected from the same donor blood using dextran sedimentation. The results suggested that the in vitro chemotactic function of granulocytes obtained by F.L. was within normal limits.</p

Feasibility and Efficacy of Definitive Radiotherapy with 66 Gy and Concurrent Carboplatin-Paclitaxel Chemotherapy for Stage III Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer.

Purpose/Objectives : This study was conducted to assess the feasibility and efficacy of definitive radiotherapy (RT) with a total dose of 66 Gy and concurrent carboplatin-paclitaxel chemotherapy for patients (pts) with stage Ⅲ non-small celllung cancer. Materials/Methods : Between April 2007 and December 2013，99 pts with non-small cell lung cancer were treated using RT with concurrent carboplatin-paclitaxel chemotherapy in our hospital. Sixty-eight of them received RT with a total dose of 66 Gy. We analyzed 46 Stage Ⅲ pts who had been treated with RT using three-dimensional radiotherapy treatment planning. The prophylactic mediastinal lymph nodes were included in the clinical target volume for RT. The survival rate after the start of RT was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. We estimated the cumulative local failure and distant metastasis rates with the Fine-Gray method. Adverse events were evaluated according to the CTCAE (v.4.0). Results : The median age of the pts was 70.9 (52.8-78.7) years old (y.o.). The performance status (PS) of each pt was fairly good (ECOG PS 0: 25, PS 1: 20, PS 3:1), and their clinical stages (UICC 7th) were twenty-nine Ⅲ A and seventeen Ⅲ B. Diagnoses were pathologically confirmed in 32 pts. The median follow-up period was 35.7 (2.0-82.2) months among all pts, and 55.9 (40.1-82.2) months among survivors. The 3- and 5-year Kaplan-Meier overall survival rates were 52.2 and 34.0%，respectively, and the median survival time was 36.6 months. The 3- and 5-year Kaplan-Meier progression-free survival rates were 29.1 and 21.9%，respectively, and the median progression-free survival time was 9.9 months. The 5-year local failure rate was 37.6%, and the 5-year distant metastasis rate was 49.7%. Sixteen (34.8%) pts required steroid administration because of radiation pneumonitis (CTCAE Grade 2 or higher) and two of them died (Grade 5). No other severe non-hematologic toxicity (Grade 3 or higher) was observed. Conclusion : These results suggest that definitive RT with a total dose of 66 Gy and concurrent carboplatin-paclitaxel chemotherapy is feasible and may be promising for pts with Stage Ⅲ non-small cell lung cancer

Dehydration of main-chain amides in the final folding step of single-chain monellin revealed by time-resolved infrared spectroscopy

Kinetic IR spectroscopy was used to reveal β-sheet formation and water expulsion in the folding of single-chain monellin (SMN) composed of a five-stranded β-sheet and an α-helix. The time-resolved IR spectra between 100 μs and 10 s were analyzed based on two consecutive intermediates, I1 and I2, appearing within 100 μs and with a time constant of ≈100 ms, respectively. The initial unfolded state showed broad amide I′ corresponded to a fluctuating conformation. In contrast, I1 possessed a feature at 1,636 cm−1 for solvated helix and weak features assignable to turns, demonstrating the rapid formation of helix and turns. I2 possessed a line for solvated helix at 1,637 cm−1 and major and minor lines for β-sheet at 1,625 and 1,680 cm−1, respectively. The splitting of the major and minor lines is smaller than that of the native state, implying an incomplete formation of the β-sheet. Furthermore, both major and minor lines demonstrated a low-frequency shift compared to those of the native state, which was interpreted to be caused by hydration of the C=O group in the β-sheet. Together with the identification of solvated helix, the core domain of I2 was interpreted as being hydrated. Finally, slow conversion of the water-penetrated core of I2 to the dehydrated core of the native state was observed. We propose that both the expulsion of water, hydrogen-bonded to main-chain amides, and the completion of the secondary structure formation contribute to the energetic barrier of the rate-limiting step in SMN folding

New Application of IEEE 11073 to Home Health Care

We propose a new home health care network for the acquisition and transmission of data from ordinary home health care appliances based on IEEE11073. In this study, we develop a standard protocol for data collection and a simple interface to accommodate different monitoring systems that make use of different data protocols. The system provides for one-way data transmission, thus saving power and conforming to Japanese pharmaceutical law. Our standardized protocol was verified during a 1-year field test involving 20 households in Japan. Data transmission errors between home health care devices and the home gateway were 4.21 per a day with our newly developed standard protocol. Over a 1 year period, we collected and analyzed data from 241,000 separate sources associated with healthy, home-based patients and chronically ill, clinic-based patients, the latter through physician intervention. We evaluate some of the possible applications for collecting daily health care data and introduce some of our findings relating primarily to body weight and blood pressure monitoring for elderly subjects in their own homes
