    An accurate car counting in aerial images based on convolutional neural networks

    This paper proposes a simple and effective single-shot detector model to detect and count cars in aerial images. The proposed model, called heatmap learner convolutional neural network (HLCNN), is used to predict the heatmap of target car instances. In order to learn the heatmap of the target cars, we have improved CNN architecture by adding three convolutional layers as adaptation layers instead of fully connected layers. The VGG-16 has been used as a backbone convolutional neural network in the proposed model. The proposed method successfully determines the number of cars and precisely detects the center of target cars. Experiments on the two different car datasets (PUCPR+ and CARPK) show the state-of-the-art counting and localizing performance of the proposed method in comparison with existing methods. Also, experiments have been conducted to examine the effect of data augmentation and batch normalization on the success of the proposed method.     The study of Tau and phospho Tau protein levels in attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder

    Background/aim: Attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a widespread neurodevelopmental disorder that begins in childhood and has negative consequences throughout adult life. The etiology and pathogenesis of ADHD are still unclear. Tau protein is a soluble microtubule-related protein expressed by neurons and localized in the cytoplasm as well as axons. Tau protein provides stability of microtubule in two ways: phosphorylation and isoforms. The excessive phosphorylation of Tau separates the protein from the microtubule, thus making it unstable. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether there is a relationship between serum Tau protein and phospho Tau (p-Tau181) levels and ADHD occurrence. Materials and methods: This study included 26 male children aged 7-12 years with newly diagnosed ADHD, who had previously not used any medication for ADHD, and 26 male healthy children. Serum Tau and p-Tau181 concentrations were performed by enzymelinked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results: In patients, the Tau levels were not significantly different from those of the controls; the p-Tau181 levels were significantly higher than those of the controls. Conclusion: We concluded that high p-Tau181 might be associated with the progression of ADHD and cognitive changes in ADHD

    Teriparatidin ilaçlarla ilişkili çene osteonekrozu tedavisindeki etkinliği: hayvan çalışması

    Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, bifosfanat uygulamasını takiben diş çekimi sonrasında çene kemiklerinde oluşan osteonekrozun tedavisinde teriparatidin etkinliğinin deneysel olarak araştırılmasıdır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Wistar Albino ırkı 48 adet dişi rat rastgele 4 gruba ayrıldı: I-Kontrol grubu; II-Zoledronik asit (ZA); III-ZA ve teriparatid; IV-ZA ve antibiyotik. Osteonekroz oluşturmak için kontrol grubu dışındaki tüm gruplara 8 hafta boyunca zoledronik asit enjekte edildi. ZA enjeksiyonlarından bir hafta sonra tüm hayvanların alt çene sol azı dişleri çekildi ve çekim soketlerinde kemik defekti oluşturuldu. Bu işlemden sonra üçüncü gruptaki ratlara 2 ay boyunca subkutan olarak teriparatid, dördüncü gruptaki ratlara 2 hafta boyunca intraperitoneal antibiyotik enjekte edildi. Hayvanlar radyolojik, histolojik, biyokimyasal ve klinik değerlendirmeler için sakrifiye edildi.Bulgular: Teriparatid uygulamasının biyokimyasal ve radyolojik açıdan kemik iyileşmesine istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir etkisinin olmadığı tespit edilmiştir (p>0,05). Teriparatidin, osteonekroz geliştikten sonra klinik olarak iyileşmeye tam anlamıyla olumlu etkisinin olmadığı ama oluşan osteonekroz tablosunun daha da ilerlemesini engellediği gözlenmiştir. Ayrıca, ilacın histolojik olarak yumuşak doku ve kemik dokusu iyileşmesinde olumlu etkilerinin olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç: Bifosfanat uygulamasını takiben diş çekimi işleminin osteonekroz gelişimine sebep olduğu gözlenmiştir. Ayrca, teriparatid uygulamasının bu lezyonların tedavisinde kısmen olumlu etkileri olduğu tespit edilmiştir.     Responsiveness of total content changes of magnesium and zinc status in patients infected with Giardia intestinalis

    The aim of the study was to investigate the changes of total content of the essential elements of zinc and magnesium levels in patients infected with Giardia intestinalis. Zinc and magnesium concentrations were measured in 64 patients who were positive for the intestinal parasite G. intestinalis. Scores were obtained for the positives and their 60 age- and sex-matched G. intestinalis-negative healthy controls. The mean concentration of magnesium in blood was significantly lower in G. intestinalis-positive patients than in their controls both in females (p0.05). The mean values of the zinc in blood were 0.73+/-0.2 mg/L in G. intestinalis-positive male patients and 0.82+/-0.1 mg/L in controls (p>0.05). No correlation could be demonstrated between age and mean values of zinc and magnesium in both G. intestinalis-positive females/males and controls (p>0.05). No significant correlation could be found between blood zinc and magnesium levels in G. intestinalis-positive female/male patients and controls (p>0.05). Magnesium levels were found to be clearly decreased, whereas no change was observed in zinc level in the patients infected with G. intestinalis compared to controls
