Green business for sustainable development and competitiveness: an overview of Turkish logistics industry

AbstractCompetitiveness is a key issue for private companies. Logistics companies also operate under the pressure of competition. In order to deal with the challenging business atmosphere, private companies seek for new ways to provide a sustainable development strategy. Environmental concerns have an important place in the sustainable development strategies. They can be evaluated within the corporate social responsibility concept which may have an impact on the competitiveness ability of private companies. Especially for logistics companies, environmental issues are highly important. Therefore green policies have became strategic for them. Competitiveness levels of private companies may be affected by green policies as a result of regulations regarding environmental concerns

The Evaluation of Fleet Structures in Turkish Aviation Industry from Strategic Management Point of View

AbstractTurkish airline industry became one of the fastest growing industries in Turkey, after liberalization allows airline companies to compete on scheduled flights. The change in government policy boosted number of domestic passengers and this growth resulted in a significant extension at fleets of airline companies. The fleet decisions became a critical issue which has a strategic importance. Composition and age of the fleet are critical factors that affect the competitiveness. Moreover, the range of the planes in fleet is strategically important. It affects the network structure and must be harmonious with the strategies of the company such as the total capacity. The aim of this paper is to analyze and evaluate the fleet structures of Turkish airline companies and their fleet decisions from strategic management point of view. Ability to operate successfully as announced to public by schedules, elasticity to meet the fluctuating demand and to secure growth and sustainability in market are all affected by fleet decisions

Evaluation of Trans European Network (TEN-T) and Transport Corridors Crossing Over Turkey

The European Transportation Policy which is the maindeterminant of the transportation policy of Turkish Republic, aimsto facilitate trade and transportation in entire Europe. In thiscontext, EU carries out many regional projects and adoptrehabilitation programmes especially on integrated transport andrailways. With her geographical importance, Turkey have a role asa bridge on East – West axis. From one hand, EU supported projectssuch as TRACECA emphasizes her role in Far East – Europeantrade, on the other hand Turkey becomes extension andcontinuation of TEN-T.
