Control of Heliothis spp. (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) larvae on flue- cured tobacco in north Queensland
In trials on tobacco in northern Queensland in 1972-76, sprays of 0.025% methomyl and 0.05% monocrotophos were effective against larvae of Heliothis spp. Other promising insecticides were 0.1% acephate, 0.05% carbofuran, 0.75% chlorpyrifos, 0.06% endosulfan, 0.075% mephosfolan, 0.03% permethrin, 0.06% prothiofos and sulprofos, 0.03% fenpropathrin, and a mixture of 0.05% chlordimeform hydrochloride with 0.05% Bacillus thuringiensis
How important are next-to-leading order models in predicting strange particle spectra in p+p collisions at STAR ?
STAR has measured a variety of strange particle species in p + p collisions
at = 200 GeV. These high statistics data are ideal for comparing to
existing leading- and next-to-leading order perturbative QCD (pQCD) models.
Next-to-leading (NLO) models have been successful in describing inclusive
hadron production using parameterized fragmentation functions (FF) for quarks
and gluons. However, in order to describe identied strange particle spectra at
NLO, knowledge of flavor separated FF is essential. Such FF have recently been
parameterized using data by the OPAL experiment and allow for the first time to
perform NLO calculation for strange baryons. In fact, comparing the STAR Lambda
data with these calculations allow to put a constraint on the gluon
fragmentation function. We show that the Leading-order (LO) event generator
PYTHIA has to be tuned significantly to reproduce the STAR identified strange
particle data. In particular, it fails to describe the observed enhancement of
baryon-to-meson ratio at intermediate pT (2-6 GeV/c). In heavy-ion (HI)
collisions this observable has been extensively compared with models and shows
a strong dependency on collision centrality or parton density. In the HI
context the observed enhancement has been explained by recent approaches in

Energy and system dependence of high- triggered two-particle near-side correlations
Previous studies have indicated that the near-side peak of high-
triggered correlations can be decomposed into two parts, the \textit{Jet} and
the \textit{Ridge}. We present data on the yield per trigger of the
\textit{Jet} and the \textit{Ridge} from , and collisions
at = 62.4 GeV and 200 GeV and compare data on the \textit{Jet}
to PYTHIA 8.1 simulations for . PYTHIA describes the \textit{Jet}
component up to a scaling factor, meaning that PYTHIA can provide a better
understanding of the \textit{Ridge} by giving insight into the effects of the
kinematic cuts. We present collision energy and system dependence of the
\textit{Ridge} yield, which should help distinguish models for the production

Direct photons in d+Au collisions at s_(NN)**(1/2)=200GeV with STAR
Results are presented of an ongoing analysis of direct photon production in
s_(NN)=200GeV deuteron-gold collisions with the STAR experiment at RHIC. A
significant excess of direct photons is observed near mid-rapidity 0<y<1 and
found to be consistent with next-to-leading order pQCD calculations including

Anisotropic Flow from RHIC to the LHC
Anisotropic flow is recognized as one of the main observables providing
information on the early stage of a heavy-ion collision. At RHIC the large
observed anisotropic flow and its successful description by ideal hydrodynamics
is considered evidence for an early onset of thermalization and almost ideal
fluid properties of the produced strongly coupled Quark Gluon Plasma. This
write-up discusses some key RHIC anisotropic flow measurements and for

Graph products of spheres, associative graded algebras and Hilbert series
Given a finite, simple, vertex-weighted graph, we construct a graded
associative (non-commutative) algebra, whose generators correspond to vertices
and whose ideal of relations has generators that are graded commutators
corresponding to edges. We show that the Hilbert series of this algebra is the
inverse of the clique polynomial of the graph. Using this result it easy to
recognize if the ideal is inert, from which strong results on the algebra
follow. Non-commutative Grobner bases play an important role in our proof.
There is an interesting application to toric topology. This algebra arises
naturally from a partial product of spheres, which is a special case of a
generalized moment-angle complex. We apply our result to the loop-space

Alternative job search strategies in remote rural and peri-urban labour markets: the role of social networks
This paper examines the importance of informal methods (especially social networking) to the job search strategies used by unemployed people. It compares three areas: a small rural town; a larger, more sparsely populated, remote rural area; and a centrally-located, peri-urban labour market. The analysis is based first on survey research undertaken with 490 job seekers across the study areas. Emerging issues were then followed up during a series of twelve focus groups. The survey research showed that job seekers in the rural study areas were significantly more likely to use social networks to look for work. However, those who had experienced repeated or long-term periods out of work, the unskilled and young people were significantly less likely to use such networks. Focus groups confirmed the perceived importance of social networking to the job search process in rural areas, in contrast to the more marginal role such methods appear to play in peri-urban settings. For many rural job seekers, formal job search activities conducted through Jobcentres were seen as largely symbolic, lacking the practical value of social networking. These results suggest that service providers seeking to assist unemployed people in rural areas need to address the problems faced by many disadvantaged job seekers who are currently caught between their lack of social network relations and the absence of local public employment service facilities in more remote communities
Critical ace2 determinants of sars-cov-2 and group 2b coronavirus infection and replication
The angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor is a major severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) host range determinant, and understanding SARS-CoV-2-ACE2 interactions will provide important insights into COVID-19 pathogenesis and animal model development. SARS-CoV-2 cannot infect mice due to incompatibility between its receptor binding domain and the murine ACE2 receptor. Through molecular modeling and empirical in vitro validation, we identified 5 key amino acid differences between murine and human ACE2 that mediate SARS-CoV-2 infection, generating a chimeric humanized murine ACE2. Additionally, we examined the ability of the humanized murine ACE2 receptor to permit infection by an additional preemergent group 2B coronavirus, WIV-1, providing evidence for the potential pan-virus capabilities of this chimeric receptor. Finally, we predicted the ability of these determinants to inform host range identification of preemergent coronaviruses by evaluating hot spot contacts between SARS-CoV-2 and additional potential host receptors. Our results identify residue determinants that mediate coronavirus receptor usage and host range for application in SARS-CoV-2 and emerging coronavirus animal model development. IMPORTANCE SARS-CoV-2 (the causative agent of COVID-19) is a major public health threat and one of two related coronaviruses that have caused epidemics in modern history. A method of screening potential infectible hosts for preemergent and future emergent coronaviruses would aid in mounting rapid response and intervention strategies during future emergence events. Here, we evaluated determinants of SARS-CoV-2 receptor interactions, identifying key changes that enable or prevent infection. The analysis detailed in this study will aid in the development of model systems to screen emergent coronaviruses as well as treatments to counteract infections
Modification of the ground state in Sm-Sr manganites by oxygen isotope substitution
The effect of O O isotope substitution on electrical
resistivity and magnetic susceptibility of SmSrMnO manganites
is analyzed. It is shown that the oxygen isotope substitution drastically
affects the phase diagram at the crossover region between the ferromagnetic
metal state and that of antiferromagnetic insulator (0.4 0.6), and
induces the metal-insulator transition at for = 0.475 and 0.5. The nature
