Process feasibility study in support of silicon material task 1
Results for process system properties, chemical engineering and economic analyses of the new technologies and processes being developed for the production of lower cost silicon for solar cells are presented. Analyses of process system properties are important for chemical materials involved in the several processes under consideration for semiconductor and solar cell grade silicon production. Major physical, thermodynamic and transport property data are reported for silicon source and processing chemical materials
Prospects for Higgs Searches via VBF at the LHC with the ATLAS Detector
We report on the potential for the discovery of a Standard Model Higgs boson
with the vector boson fusion mechanism in the mass range 115
with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Feasibility studies at hadron level
followed by a fast detector simulation have been performed for H\to
W^{(*)}W^{(*)}\to l^+l^-\sla{p_T}, and . The results obtained show a large discovery potential in the
range 115. Results obtained with multivariate techniques are
reported for a number of channels.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures, contributed to 2003 Les Houches Workshop on

The coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism in nano-scale metallic grains
A nano-scale metallic grain in which the single-particle dynamics are chaotic
is described by the so-called universal Hamiltonian. This Hamiltonian includes
a superconducting pairing term and a ferromagnetic exchange term that compete
with each other: pairing correlations favor minimal ground-state spin, while
the exchange interaction favors maximal spin polarization. Of particular
interest is the fluctuation-dominated regime where the bulk pairing gap is
comparable to or smaller than the single-particle mean level spacing and the
Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer theory of superconductivity breaks down.
Superconductivity and ferromagnetism can coexist in this regime. We identify
signatures of the competition between superconductivity and ferromagnetism in a
number of quantities: ground-state spin, conductance fluctuations when the
grain is weakly coupled to external leads and the thermodynamic properties of
the grain, such as heat capacity and spin susceptibility.Comment: 13 pages, 13 figures, Proceedings of the Conference on the Frontiers

First Principles Studies on 3-Dimentional Strong Topological Insulators: Bi2Te3, Bi2Se3 and Sb2Te3
Bi2Se3, Bi2Te3 and Sb2Te3 compounds are recently predicted to be
3-dimentional (3D) strong topological insulators. In this paper, based on
ab-initio calculations, we study in detail the topological nature and the
surface states of this family compounds. The penetration depth and the
spin-resolved Fermi surfaces of the surface states will be analyzed. We will
also present an procedure, from which highly accurate effective Hamiltonian can
be constructed, based on projected atomic Wannier functions (which keep the
symmetries of the systems). Such Hamiltonian can be used to study the
semi-infinite systems or slab type supercells efficiently. Finally, we discuss
the 3D topological phase transition in Sb2(Te1-xSex)3 alloy system.Comment: 8 pages,17 figure
Anaesthesia Management of Caesarean Section in Two Patients with Eisenmenger's Syndrome
Recently two parturients with Eisenmenger's syndrome underwent caesarean section at our hospital. They were managed by a multidisciplinary team during their perioperative period. The caesarean sections were uneventfully performed, one under general anaesthesia and one with epidural anaesthesia, with delivery of two newborns with satisfactory Apgar scores. One patient died in the post-partum period, and the other did well. We discuss the anaesthetic considerations in managing these high-risk patients
The nuclear equation of state probed by production in heavy ion collisions
The dependence of production on the nuclear equation of state is
investigated in heavy ion collisions. An increase of the excitation function of
multiplicities obtained in heavy () over light () systems
when going far below threshold which has been observed by the KaoS
Collaboration strongly favours a soft equation of state. This observation holds
despite of the influence of an in-medium kaon potential predicted by effective
chiral models which is necessary to reproduce the experimental yields.
Phase space effects are discussed with respect to the excitation
function.Comment: 14 pages Revtex, 6 figures, Proceedings to the XXXIX Interantional
