An evlauation of the three-dimensional split-film anemometer for measurements of atmospheric turbulence
A three-dimensional split-film anemometer was tested in turbulent, as well as in nonturbulent flow downstream from a wind tunnel turbulence grid. The data obtained with this probe in the turbulence behind the grid, indicated that the measured turbulence intensities were somewhat lower than the intensity measured with the conventional hot-wire anemometry; a result of the finite dimensions of the sensor arrays. The probe yaw angle was determined to be accurate within three degrees. Statistical averages, determined by mean-wind direction and vertical and lateral directions were computed on the basis of the probe yaw angle

Mechanical Properties and Biological Responses of Bioactive Glass Ceramics Processed using Indirect SLS
This paper will report on research which aims to generate bone replacement components by
processing bioactive glass-ceramic powders using indirect selective laser sintering. The indirect
SLS route has been chosen as it offers the ability to tailor the shape of the implant to the
implantation site, and two bioactive glass ceramic materials have been processed through this
route: apatite-mullite and apatite-wollostanite. The results of bend tests, to investigate
mechanical properties, and in vitro and in vivo experiments to investigate biological responses of
the materials will be reported, and the suitability of completed components for implant will be

Spectral infrared hemispherical reflectance measurements for LDEF tray clamps
Infrared hemispherical reflectance measurements that were made on 58 chromic acid anodized tray clamps from LDEF are described. The measurements were made using a hemiellipsoidal mirror reflectometer with interferometer for wavelengths between 2-15 microns. The tray clamps investigated were from locations about the entire spacecraft and provided the opportunity for comparing the effects of atomic oxygen at each location. Results indicate there was essentially no dependence on atomic oxygen fluence for the surfaces studied, but there did appear to be a slight dependence on solar radiation exposure. The reflectances of the front sides of the tray clamps consistently were slightly higher than for the protected rear tray clamp surfaces

protective plant cover and by trampling. Reductions in the
vegetation cover may: (a) increase the impact of raindrops, (b) decrease
soil organic matter and soil aggregates, (c) increase surface
crusts, (d) decrease infiltration rates, and/or increase erosion. Resultant
impacts may include increased overland flow, reduced soil water
content, and increased erosion. Bacteria and/or nutrients as potential
pollutants from livestock grazing do not appear to be a problem on
areas not included on riparian zones.
Existing studies show no hydrologic advantage to grazing a watershed
lightly rather than moderately. Some studies show no difference
in soil loss, infiltration capacity, or soil bulk density between light.

specialized grazing systems. To evaluate hydrologic impacts adequately,
additional studies, both intensive and extensive, should be

Anisotropic charge transport in non-polar GaN QW: polarization induced charge and interface roughness scattering
Charge transport in GaN quantum well (QW) devices grown in non-polar
direction has been theoretically investigated . Emergence of anisotropic line
charge scattering mechanism originating as a result of anisotropic rough
surface morphology in conjunction with in-plane built-in polarization has been
proposed. It has shown that in-plane growth anisotropy leads to large
anisotropic carrier transport at low temperatures. At high temperatures, this
anisotropy in charge transport is partially washed out by strong isotropic
optical phonon scattering in GaN QW.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

A range of physical, biological and chemical parameters were measured in organic soil that had been managed in different ways and in a conventional control. Novae as a Mechanism for Producing Cavities around the Progenitors of SN 2002ic and Other SNe Ia
We propose that a nova shell ejected from a recurrent nova progenitor system
created the evacuated region around the explosion center of SN 2002ic. In this
picture, periodic shell ejections due to nova explosions on a white dwarf sweep
up the slow wind from the binary companion, creating density variations and
instabilities that lead to structure in the circumstellar medium (CSM). Our
model naturally explains the observed gap between the supernova explosion
center and the CSM in SN 2002ic, accounts for the density variations observed
in the CSM, and resolves the coincidence problem of the timing of the explosion
of SN 2002ic with respect to the apparent cessation of mass-loss in the
progenitor system. We also consider such nova outburst sweeping as a generic

High pressure X-ray preionized TEMA-CO2 laser
The construction of a high-pressure (up to 20 atm) transversely excited CO2 laser using transverse X-ray preionization is described. High pressure operation was found to be greatly improved in comparison to UV-preionized systems.
