    An Interesting Charmonium State Formation and Decay : ppˉ→1D2→1P1γp \bar p \to ^1D_2 \to ^1P_1 \gamma

    Massless perturbative QCD forbids, at leading order, the exclusive annihilation of proton-antiproton into some charmonium states, which, however, have been observed in the ppˉp\bar p channel, indicating the significance of higher order and non perturbative effects in the few GeV energy region. The most well known cases are those of the 1S0^1S_0 (ηc\eta_c) and the 1P1^1P_1. The case of the 1D2^1D_2 is considered here and a way of detecting such a state through its typical angular distribution in the radiative decay 1D2→^1D_2 \to 1P1γ^1P_1 \gamma is suggested. Estimates of the branching ratio BR(1D2→ppˉ)BR(^1D_2 \to p\bar p), as given by a quark-diquark model of the nucleon, mass corrections and an instanton induced process are presented.Comment: 9 pages (no figures), Plain TeX, CBPF-NF-014/94, INFNCA-TH-94-

    We address the problem of observed charmonium decays which should be forbidden in perturbative QCD. We examine the model in which these decays proceed through a gluonic component of the J/ΨJ/\Psi and the ηc\eta_c, arising from a mixing of (ccˉ)(c\bar c) and glueball states. We give some bounds on the values of the mixing angles and propose the study of the ppˉ→ϕϕp \bar{p} \to \phi \phi reaction, at s≃3\sqrt{s} \simeq 3 GeV, as an independent test of the model.Comment: 8pages, lateX, DFTT 64-9

    Spin-dependent structure functions g^1\hat g_1 and g^2\hat g_2 for inclusive spin-half baryon production in electron-positron annihilation

    Two spin-dependent structure functions g^1\hat g_1 and g^2\hat g_2 for the inclusive spin-half baryon production in electron-positron annihilation are studied in the context of QCD factorization as well as in the naive quark parton model. As a result, it is found that the sum of g^1\hat g_1 and g^2\hat g_2 is related to h^1\hat h_1 and g^T\hat g_T, two quark fragmentation functions defined by Jaffe and Ji. In connection with the measurement of quark fragmentation functions, the possible phenomenological consequences are discussed.Comment: RevTex, four Ps figures, to appear in Phys. Rev.

    Polarization in Hadronic \Lambda Hyperon Production and Chiral-Odd Twist-3 Distribution

    Polarization of the \Lambda hyperon produced with a large transverse momentum in the unpolarized nucleon-nucleon collision is analyzed in the framework of QCD factorization. We focus on the mechanism in which the soft-gluon component of the chiral-odd spin-independent twist-3 quark distribution E_F(x,x) becomes a source of the polarized quark fragmenting into the polarized \Lambda. Our simple model estimate for this contribution indicates that it gives rise to a significant \Lambda polarization at large x_F. This is in parallel with the observation that the soft gluon pole mechanism gives rise to a large single transverse spin asymmetry in the pion production at x_F\to 1.Comment: 10 pages in LaTex + 5 figures in PS files.     Semiclassical Decay of Excited String States on Leading Regge Trajectories

    We study the decay of hadrons based on a semiclassical string model. By including quark mass effects we find that the width to mass ratio \G/m is an increasing function of mm, which increases most rapidly for massive quarks. This is consistent with the available data. The decay probability of hadrons on the leading Regge trajectories is computed taking the effect of the string rotation into account. The resulting decay probability is no longer uniform along the length of the string but varies in a manner that is in qualitative agreement with the available data. We argue in favour of possible experiments that would test our predictions more accurately and help open a window to the nonperturbative aspects of QCD.Comment: 15 PAGES, UR-1326, ER-40685-776, SU-4240-55

    Transverse momentum dependence in gluon distribution and fragmentation functions

    We investigate the twist two gluon distribution functions for spin 1/2 hadrons, emphasizing intrinsic transverse momentum of the gluons. These functions are relevant in leading order in the inverse hard scale in scattering processes such as inclusive leptoproduction or Drell-Yan scattering, or more general in hard processes in which at least two hadrons are involved.     Observing Spontaneous Strong Parity Violation in Heavy-Ion Collisions

    We discuss the problem of observing spontaneous parity and CP violation in collision systems. We discuss and propose observables which may be used in heavy-ion collisions to observe such violations, as well as event-by-event methods to analyze the data. Finally, we discuss simple monte-carlo models of these CP violating effects which we have used to develop our techniques and from which we derive rough estimates of sensitivities to signals which may be seen at RHIC

    We analyse the proton and deutron data on spin dependent asymmetry A1(x,Q2)A_1(x,Q^2) supposing the DIS structure functions g1(x,Q2)g_1(x,Q^2) and F3(x,Q2)F_3(x,Q^2) have the similar Q2Q^2-dependence. As a result, we have obtained that Γ1p−Γ1n=0.190±0.038\Gamma_1^p - \Gamma_1^n = 0.190 \pm 0.038 at Q2=10GeV2Q^2= 10 GeV^2 and Γ1p−Γ1n=0.165±0.026\Gamma_1^p - \Gamma_1^n = 0.165 \pm 0.026 at Q2=3GeV2Q^2= 3 GeV^2, what is in the best agreement with the Bjorken sum rule predictions.Comment: LaTeX, 5 pages, no figures, to be published in JETP Letter
