Dynamical coupled-channel model of kaon-hyperon interactions
The pi N --> KY and KY --> KY reactions are studied using a dynamical
coupled-channel model of meson-baryon interactions at energies where the baryon
resonances are strongly excited. The channels included are: pi N, K \Lambda,
and K\Sigma. The resonances considered are: N^* [S_{11}(1650), P_{11}(1710),
P_{13}(1720),D_{13}(1700)]; \Delta^* [S_{31}(1900), P_{31}(1910),
P_{33}(1920)]; \Lambda ^* [S_{01}(1670), P_{01}(1810)] \Sigma^* [P_{11}(1660),
D_{13}(1670)]; and K^*(892). The basic non-resonant \pi N --> KY and KY --> KY
transition potentials are derived from effective Lagrangians using a unitary
transformation method. The dynamical coupled-channel equations are simplified
by parametrizing the pi N -->pi N amplitudes in terms of empirical pi N
partial-wave amplitudes and a phenomenological off-shell function. Two models
have been constructed. Model A is built by fixing all coupling constants and
resonance parameters using SU(3) symmetry, the Particle Data Group values, and
results from a constituent quark model. Model B is obtained by allowing most of
the parameters to vary around the values of model A in fitting the data. Good
fits to the available data for pi^- p to K^0 \Lambda, K^0 \Sigma^0 have been
achieved. The investigated kinematics region in the center-of-mass frame goes
from threshold to 2.5 GeV. The constructed models can be imbedded into
associated dynamical coupled-channel studies of kaon photo- and
electro-production reactions.Comment: 35 pages, 11 Figure
MODEL-BASED IMAGE-MATCHING KINEMATICS ANALYSIS OF THREE ANKLE SUPINATION SPRAIN INJURY CASES IN SPORTS
Ankle sprain is one of the most common injuries encountered at sport events. Three ankle supination sprain cases from high jump, tennis and hockey were chosen for analysis. Model-Based Image-Matching (MBIM) technique was implemented for reconstructing 3D ankle joint kinematics. The profiles of ankle joint kinematics were outputted from the selected sprain cases. The maximum inversion angle ranged from 78° to 142°. Plantarflexion was again found to be not necessary in ankle supination sprain injury. The results from the MBIM technique would contribute to the understanding of biomechanical injury mechanism of ankle supination sprain injury in sports. The future direction is to analyze more cases to consolidate the findings
INTRA-RATER AND INTER-RATER RELIABILITY OF A MODEL-BASED IMAGE-MATCHING MOTION ANALYSIS TECHNIQUE IN MEASURING ANKLE JOINT KINEMATICS
The aim of this study was to assess the intra-rater and inter-rater reliability of the MBIM technique in measuring ankle joint kinematics. Three cadaveric below-hip specimens were prepared for performing full-range plantar/dorsiflexion, in/eversion and relative circular motion between the shank and foot segments. A detailed skeleton matching protocol was given to two researchers and each researcher performed the matching five times on each specimen. Intra-rater and inter-rater reliability were assessed with interclass correlation (ICC). The results showed excellent intra-rater reliability (ICC coefficient > 0.978) and excellent inter-rater reliability (ICC coefficient > 0.981). Therefore, the MBIM technique for analyzing ankle joint kinematics is repeatable and is a good motion analysis tool for sports science and sports medicine related research
An open database of productivity in Vietnam's social sciences and humanities for public use
This study presents a description of an open database on scientific output of Vietnamese researchers in social sciences and humanities, one that corrects for the shortcomings in current research publication databases such as data duplication, slow update, and a substantial cost of doing science. Here, using scientists’ self-reports, open online sources and cross-checking with Scopus database, we introduce a manual system and its semi-automated version of the database on the profiles of 657 Vietnamese researchers in social sciences and humanities who have published in Scopus-indexed journals from 2008 to 2018. The final system also records 973 foreign co-authors, 1,289 papers, and 789 affiliations. The data collection method, highly applicable for other sources, could be replicated in other developing countries while its content be used in cross-section, multivariate, and network data analyses. The open database is expected to help Vietnam revamp its research capacity and meet the public demand for greater transparency in science management

Radio-frequency methods for Majorana-based quantum devices: fast charge sensing and phase diagram mapping
Radio-frequency (RF) reflectometry is implemented in hybrid
semiconductor-superconductor nanowire systems designed to probe Majorana zero
modes. Two approaches are presented. In the first, hybrid nanowire-based
devices are part of a resonant circuit, allowing conductance to be measured as
a function of several gate voltages ~40 times faster than using conventional
low-frequency lock-in methods. In the second, nanowire devices are capacitively
coupled to a nearby RF single-electron transistor made from a separate
nanowire, allowing RF detection of charge, including charge-only measurement of
the crossover from 2e inter-island charge transitions at zero magnetic field to
1e transitions at axial magnetic fields above 0.6 T, where a topological state
is expected. Single-electron sensing yields signal-to-noise exceeding 3 and
visibility 99.8% for a measurement time of 1 {\mu}s
