Effect of microstructure on properties of MgB 2 synthesized by SHS method

Abstract MgB 2 samples were obtained by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS). Microstructure, phase and chemical analysis of the samples were studied by XRD and cross-sectional TEM-SAD. MgB 2 samples contained very small uniformly distributed MgO particles. Temperature dependence of the upper critical field and of the critical current densities were determined from ac magnetic susceptibility measurements. Normal metallic state was characterised by measurements of valence band structure by ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (ARUPS). We concluded that MgB 2 is a hard II type superconductor and that SHS method is suitable to fabricate material with strong pinning centers of MgO

Mathematical formalisms to represent knowledge concerning the production process of austempered ductile iron

The aim of this study is to develop computer tools for calculation of the Fe - Fe3C phase equilibrium diagram. The phase equilibrium diagram is of fundamental importance in materials science and heat treatment processes of ferrous alloys. It enables prediction of carbon steel microstructure in the annealed condition, and facilitates selection of proper temperature for the heat treatment process. Choosing the right values of the heat treatment process parameters is essential in the production of Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI)

Raspberry pomace alters cecal microbial activity and reduces secondary bile acids in rats fed a high-fat diet

The profile of bile acids (BA) largely depends on the enzymatic activity of the microbiota, but this can be modulated by the dietary addition of biologically active compounds, e.g., polyphenols and polyunsaturated fatty acids. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of dietary raspberry pomace as a rich source of biologically active compounds on microbial activity and the BA profile in the caecum of rats fed a high-fat diet. Wistar rats were fed the standard diet AIN-93, a high-fat diet or a modified high-fat diet enriched with 7% different types of processed raspberry pomaces produced by standard grinding and fine grinding, with or without seeds. Rats fed the high-fat diet for eight weeks showed some disorders in liver function and cecal BA, as manifested by an increased concentration of cholesterol, total BA in the liver and cholic, deoxycholic, and β-muricholic acids in the cecal digesta. In general, irrespective of the type of raspberry pomace, these dietary preparations decreased liver cholesterol, hepatic fibroblast growth factor receptor 4, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha, cecal ammonia and favorable changed BA profile in the cecum. However, among all dietary pomaces, the finely ground preparation containing seeds had the greatest beneficial effect on the caecum by modulating bacterial activity and reducing the levels of secondary BA

The shaping of spatial identity: dichotomy between contemporary architecture and visual arts

Celem badań nad podjętym tematem było pogłębienie wiedzy w zakresie sztuki publicznej w przestrzeni miast, przestrzeni zróżnicowanej pod względem urbanistycznym, krajobrazowym, kulturowym i społecznym, a także pod względem odmiennych postaw i potrzeb zarówno twórców, jak i odbiorców. Analizie badawczej została poddana wielozmysłowość przestrzeni, którą transfiguruje architektura i sztuka. W niniejszym artykule omówiono problematykę konstruowania czasoprzestrzeni, kształtowania tożsamości narodowej i regionalnej miejsca poprzez wprowadzenie do realnej przestrzeni działań z zakresu sztuk wizualnych, które pełnią rolę dla niej uzupełniającą w wyniku zastosowania nowych form, kolorów, dźwięków, zapachów, materiałów i faktur. Poprzez warstwę symboliczną sztuka pozwala nam identyfikować się z danym miejscem. Interesuje mnie płynność pomiędzy architekturą a instalacją, nie tylko pod względem formalnym, ale też pod względem ideologicznym. Architektura i instalacja są sobie bliskie. Mam tu na myśli te realizacje architektoniczne, które same w sobie stanową rzeźbiarskie dzieło sztuki. Można tu wymienić wiele przykładów, o których wspominam w artykule, ale szczególną uwagę przykładam do artysty konceptualnego Daniela Burena, który współpracował z takimi architektami, jak Frank Ghery czy Frank Lloyd Wright.Works on the subject were started with the aim to advance knowledge about public art in the urban space; a space highly diversified in terms of urban planning, landscape, cultural and social aspects, but also the attitudes and needs of the authors and the recipients. The research analysis focused on the multisensuality of space, transfigured through architecture and art. The article discusses the issues of building the time-space continuum and shaping the national and regional identity of places by introducing visual art projects into the factual space, to complement it with the new forms, colours, sounds, fragrances, materials and textures. We use the symbolic layer of art to identify with places. I am particularly interested in the smoothness of boundaries between architecture and installation, not only in formal terms, but also from the ideological perspective. There is a close connection between architecture and installations, clearly reflected by architectural projects which alone are sculptural works of art. The examples are numerous, and I will mention some of them further in the text, but my primary intention is to place maximum focus on an internationally acclaimed conceptual artist Daniel Buren, who cooperated with architects such as Frank Gehry or Frank Lloyd Wright

Symulacja numeryczna procesu sedymentacji zawiesiny węglowej

The article describes the feasibility of numerical simulation of sedimentation process of coal suspension, with high concentration, using the Ansys Fluent package, with the assumption monodisperse grain composition of the disperse phase of the suspension. The analysis contains selection of computational model, determine the parameters for analysis and comparison of the results with laboratory tests. To comparison laboratory measurement and numerical simulation sedimentation test was used. In the analysis was used suspension from the coal purification process.W artykule zamieszczono analizę możliwości prowadzenia symulacji numerycznych procesu sedymentacji zawiesiny węglowej o wysokim stężeniu, z wykorzystaniem pakietu Ansys Fluent przy założeniu monodyspersyjnego składu ziarnowego fazy dyspersyjnej zawiesiny. Offer of tourist bus lines transporting bicycles in the Czech Republic

Turystyka rowerowa jest jedną z najbardziej popularnych form rekreacji na świeżym powietrzu, ale istotną barierą w jej rozwoju są ograniczenia w przewozie rowerów środkami publicznej komunikacji zbiorowej. W celu poprawy tej negatywnej sytuacji w Republice Czeskiej od kilkunastu lat uruchamiane są regularne linie obsługiwane autobusami przystosowanymi do transportu rowerów, zwane cyklobusami, zapewniające połączenia między źródłami ruchu turystycznego (większe miasta, miejscowości turystyczne) a wyższymi partiami gór i atrakcjami turystycznymi. Obecnie kursują one już na kilkudziesięciu trasach w kilkunastu regionach kraju, przy czym w artykule przybliżono tylko wybrane obszary. Celem pracy jest analiza tej specyficznej oferty – przebiegu i powiązania poszczególnych tras, rozkładów jazdy, zasad przewozu rowerów oraz form promocji – w celu wskazania wzorcowych rozwiązań organizacyjnych, możliwych do zastosowania w innych krajach, w tym Polsce. Dokładniej przebadano sieć cyklobusów w Górach Orlickich i na ich pogórzu, ponieważ należy do najstarszych i najbardziej rozbudowanych. Porównano kształt sieci w wybranych latach (wykorzystując do tego współczynniki zaczerpnięte z teorii grafów) i zmieniającą się liczbę kursów. W pozostałych przypadkach (m.in. Karkonosze, Czeski Raj, województwo karlowarskie) przedstawiono stan z 2014 roku, starając się wskazać charakterystyczne cechy i wartościowe rozwiązania. Przeprowadzone analizy pozwalają stwierdzić, że czeskie cyklobusy trwale wpisały się w ofertę transportu zbiorowego w kraju i efektywnie udostępniają dla turystów rowerowych najatrakcyjniejsze turystycznie obszary.Cycling tourism is one of the most popular forms of outdoor recreation, however a substantial limitation to its development are restrictions in transporting bicycles in means of public transport. In order to improve the situation various lines in the Czech Republic are operated by buses adapted to bicycle transporting. So called cyclobuses connect sources of tourist traffic (bigger cities, tourist centres) with higher mountain ranges and tourist attractions. Nowadays they operate on tens of routes in several regions, some of which are presented in the paper. The main aim of the article is to analyse this specific offer – course and connections between routes, timetables, rules of bicycle transporting and forms of promotion – in order to propose some model organisational solutions, possible to introduce in other countries, also in Poland. One of the oldest and most developed networks of cyclobuses – in the region of Orlické Mountains – was more precisely examined. The shape of the network in selected years was analysed using coefficients originating from the graph theory, also changing number of services was inspected. As far as other cases (Karkonosze Mountains, Czech Paradise, Karlovy Vary region) only present situation was presented. According to conducted studies the system of cyclobuses is an important part of the Czech public transport and makes accessible the most attractive areas

Unconventional heritage. Aesthetics and protection of Polish modern art on the example of conceptual art and installations at the turn of the 70s and 80s, creating an integral part of the architecture of the 2nd half of the 20th century

W latach 80. w historii sztuki polskiej obserwujemy narodziny nowej tożsamości kulturowej, tzw. niezależnej, kształtującej się w wyniku ówczesnej sytuacji politycznej. Większość środowisk artystycznych walczyła z systemem komunistycznym wyrażając sprzeciw wobec represji. Sztuka przekraczała przyjęte reguły nie tylko w sferze idei, ale i w sferze reprezentacji. Ochrona i konserwacja jej dziedzictwa jest zadaniem niezwykle trudnym, nie tylko ze względu na różnorodność i nowoczesność stosowanych technik. Ważna dla zachowania stała się nie tyle materia, co przede wszystkim sama idea, przekaz dzieła, proces twórczy z otaczającą obiekt przestrzenią oraz jej elementami sensualnymi. Architektura użyczała swojej skali dziełu sztuki, zaś ono obciążało ją mocą swojego przekazu. Dlatego opieka nad dziełami nurtów niekonwencjonalnych (jak sztuka konceptualna czy sztuka instalacji) związana jest przede wszystkim z właściwym rozpoznaniem ich tożsamości.During the 1980s in the history of Polish art we could observe the birth of a new cultural identity, so called independent, shaped as a result of the then political situation. The majority of artistic milieus were struggling against the communist system expressing their opposition to repression. Art transgressed the previously accepted rules not only in the sphere of ideas, but also in the sphere of representation. Protection and conservation of its heritage is an extremely challenging task, not only because of the variety and modernity of applied technologies. Not so much matter as primarily the ides, the message conveyed by artwork, the creative process with the surrounding space and its sensual elements have become vital to preserve. Architecture lent its scale to a work of art, while it weighed architecture with the power of its message. That is why taking care of unconventional artworks (such as conceptual art or art of installation) is primarily associated with correct recognising of their identity
