Tunneling anisotropic magnetoresistance in multilayer-(Co/Pt)/AlOx/Pt structures
We report observations of tunneling anisotropic magnetoresitance (TAMR) in
vertical tunnel devices with a ferromagnetic multilayer-(Co/Pt) electrode and a
non-magnetic Pt counter-electrode separated by an AlOx barrier. In stacks with
the ferromagnetic electrode terminated by a Co film the TAMR magnitude
saturates at 0.15% beyond which it shows only weak dependence on the magnetic
field strength, bias voltage, and temperature. For ferromagnetic electrodes
terminated by two monolayers of Pt we observe order(s) of magnitude enhancement
of the TAMR and a strong dependence on field, temperature and bias. Discussion
of experiments is based on relativistic ab initio calculations of magnetization
orientation dependent densities of states of Co and Co/Pt model systems.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, to be published in Phys. Rev. Let
Electrical conductivity and electromagnetic interference shielding of multiwalled carbon nanotube composites containing Fe catalyst
Thin and flexible composite films of raw or purified multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) with various mass fractions and poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) were synthesized for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding material. From scanning electron microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy photographs, we observed the formation of a conducting network through MWCNTs in an insulating PMMA matrix and the existence of an Fe catalyst in MWCNTs. The dc conductivity (sigma(dc)) of the systems increased with increasing MWCNT mass fraction, showing typical percolation behavior. The measured EMI shielding efficiency (SE) of MWCNT-PMMA composites by using the extended ASTM D4935-99 method (50 MHz-13.5 GHz) increased with increasing MWCNT mass fraction as sigma(dc). The highest EMI SE for raw MWCNT-PMMA composites was similar to27 dB, indicating commercial use for far-field EMI shielding. The contribution of absorption to total EMI SE of the systems is larger than that of reflection. Based on magnetic permeability, we suggest raw MWCNTs and their composites can be used for near-field EMI shielding.open28629
Status of and performance estimates for QCDOC
QCDOC is a supercomputer designed for high scalability at a low cost per
node. We discuss the status of the project and provide performance estimates
for large machines obtained from cycle accurate simulation of the QCDOC ASIC.Comment: 3 pages 1 figure. Lattice2002(machines
Production and optical properties of liquid scintillator for the JSNS experiment
The JSNS (J-PARC Sterile Neutrino Search at J-PARC Spallation Neutron
Source) experiment will search for neutrino oscillations over a 24 m short
baseline at J-PARC. The JSNS inner detector will be filled with 17 tons
of gadolinium-loaded liquid scintillator (LS) with an additional 31 tons of
unloaded LS in the intermediate -catcher and outer veto volumes.
JSNS has chosen Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) as an organic solvent because
of its chemical properties. The unloaded LS was produced at a refurbished
facility, originally used for scintillator production by the RENO experiment.
JSNS plans to use ISO tanks for the storage and transportation of the LS.
In this paper, we describe the LS production, and present measurements of its
optical properties and long term stability. Our measurements show that storing
the LS in ISO tanks does not result in degradation of its optical properties.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures

KMT-2018-BLG-1292: A Super-Jovian Microlens Planet in the Galactic Plane
We report the discovery of KMT-2018-BLG-1292Lb, a super-Jovian planet orbiting an F or G dwarf , which lies physically within {\cal O}(10\,\pc) of the
Galactic plane. The source star is a heavily extincted luminous
giant that has the lowest Galactic latitude, , of any planetary
microlensing event. The relatively blue blended light is almost certainly
either the host or its binary companion, with the first explanation being
substantially more likely. This blend dominates the light at band and
completely dominates at and bands. Hence, the lens system can be probed
by follow-up observations immediately, i.e., long before the lens system and
the source separate due to their relative proper motion. The system is well
characterized despite the low cadence -- of
observations and short viewing windows near the end of the bulge season. This
suggests that optical microlensing planet searches can be extended to the
Galactic plane at relatively modest cost.Comment: 35 pages, 3 Tables, 8 figure
The K2K SciBar Detector
A new near detector, SciBar, for the K2K long-baseline neutrino oscillation
expe riment was installed to improve the measurement of neutrino energy
spectrum and to study neutrino interactions in the energy region around 1 GeV.
SciBar is a 'fully active' tracking detector with fine segmentation consisting
of plastic scintillator bars. The detector was constructed in summer 2003 and
is taking data since October 2003. The basic design and initial performance is
presented.Comment: 7 pages, 4figures, Contributed to Proceedings of the 10th Vienna
