    High-pTp_T ψψ\psi\psi production as signals for Double Parton scattering at hadron colliders

    Full text link
    We present an analysis of the \psi\psi production from double parton (DP) sacttering and single parton (SP) scattering in the large p_T region via color-octet gluon fragmentation. We find that at the Tevatron the DP \psi\psi production is at the edge of the detectability at present, and at the LHC the DP cross section will dominate over the SP cross section in the lower p_T(min) region (i.e., p_T(min)<7GeV). We also conclude that the color-octet mechanism is of crucial importance to the double j/psi production at high energy hadron colliders.Comment: Revtex, 12 pages, 3 Postscript figure

    Production of J/ψJ/\psi-pairs at HERA-N\vec{{\rm N}}

    Full text link
    The production of J/ψJ/\psi-pairs as a possible measure of the polarized gluon distribution ΔG(x)\Delta G(x) is studied for proton--nucleon collisions at \sqrt{s} =40\;\mbox{GeV}^2 (HERA-N\vec{{\rm N}}). Possibilities of reconstructing the helicity state of at least one of the J/ψJ/\psi's are critically reviewed. The observation of production asymmetries in the single polarized mode of HERA-N\vec{{\rm N}} is found to be not feasible.Comment: 8 pages, LATeX, 3 figures availabe as .uu-fil

    Double parton distributions in the leading logarithm approximation of perturbative QCD

    Full text link
    Recent CDF measurements of the inclusive cross section for a double parton scattering attach a great importance to any theoretical calculations of two-particle distribution functions. Using a parton interpretation of the leading logarithm diagrams of perturbative QCD theory, generalized Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi-Dokshitzer equations for the two-parton distributions are re-obtained. The solutions of these equations are not at all the product of two single-parton distributions what is usually applied to the current analysis as ansatz.Comment: 8 pages, LaTe

    Multiparton interactions and production of minijets in high energy hadronic collisions

    Get PDF
    We discuss the inclusive cross section to produce two minijets with a large separation in rapidity in high energy hadronic collisions. The contribution to the inclusive cross section from the exchange of a BFKL Pomeron is compared with the contribution from the exchange of two BFKL Pomerons, which is induced by the unitarization of the semi-hard interaction. The effect of the multiple exchange is studied both as a function of the azimuthal correlation and as a function of the transverse momentum of the observed minijets.Comment: TeX file, 20 pages, 4 figures available on reques

    QCD and models on multiplicities in e+ee^+e^- and ppˉp\bar p interactions

    Full text link
    A brief survey of theoretical approaches to description of multiplicity distributions in high energy processes is given. It is argued that the multicomponent nature of these processes leads to some peculiar characteristics observed experimentally. Predictions for LHC energies are presented. It is shown that similarity of the energy dependence of average multiplicities in different reactions is not enough alone to suggest the universal mechanism of particle production in strongly-interacting systems. Other characteristics of multiplicity distributions depend on the nature of colliding partners.Comment: 16 pages, 11 figures, Phys. Atom. Nuc

    Higher-Order QCD Corrections to Inclusive Particle Production in p anti-p Collisions

    Full text link
    Inclusive single-particle production cross sections have been calculated including higher-order QCD corrections. Transverse-momentum and rapidity distributions are presented and the scale dependence is studied. The results are compared with experimental data from the CERN S(p anti-p)S Collider and the Fermilab Tevatron.Comment: 28 pages, [12 uuencoded PS figures, 3 available under request]. Estimates of hadron azimuthal anisotropy from multiparton interactions in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 14 TeV

    Full text link
    We estimate the amount of collective "elliptic flow" expected at mid-rapidity in proton-proton (p-p) collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), assuming that any possible azimuthal anisotropy of the produced hadrons with respect to the plane of the reaction follows the same overlap-eccentricity and particle-density scalings as found in high-energy heavy ion collisions. Using a Glauber eikonal model, we compute the p-p eccentricities, transverse areas and particle-multiplicities for various phenomenological parametrisations of the proton spatial density. For realistic proton transverse profiles, we find integrated elliptic flow v2 parameters below 3% in p-p collisions at sqrt(s) = 14 TeV.Comment: 17 pages, 9 figures. Very minor mods. Aspects of four-jet production in polarized proton-proton collisions

    Full text link
    We examine the intrinsic spin-dependence of the dominant gggggggg \rightarrow gggg subprocess contribution to four-jet production in polarized proton-proton collisions using helicity amplitude techniques. We find that the partonic level, longitudinal spin-spin asymmetry, a^LL\hat{a}_{LL}, is intrinsically large in the kinematic regions probed in experiments detecting four isolated jets. Such events may provide another qualitative or semi-quantitative test of the spin-structure of QCD in planned polarized pppp collisions at RHIC.Comment: 9 pages, LaTeX, 2 uuencoded postscript files attache

    Harmonic Sums and Mellin Transforms up to two-loop Order

    Get PDF
    A systematic study is performed on the finite harmonic sums up to level four. These sums form the general basis for the Mellin transforms of all individual functions fi(x)f_i(x) of the momentum fraction xx emerging in the quantities of massless QED and QCD up to two--loop order, as the unpolarized and polarized splitting functions, coefficient functions, and hard scattering cross sections for space and time-like momentum transfer. The finite harmonic sums are calculated explicitly in the linear representation. Algebraic relations connecting these sums are derived to obtain representations based on a reduced set of basic functions. The Mellin transforms of all the corresponding Nielsen functions are calculated.Comment: 44 pages Latex, contract number adde

    Evidence for Colour-Octet Mechanism from CERN LEP2 gamma gamma -> J/psi + X Data

    Full text link
    We present theoretical predictions for the transverse-momentum distribution of J/psi mesons promptly produced in gamma gamma collisions within the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics, including the contributions from both direct and resolved photons, and we perform a conservative error analysis. The fraction of J/psi mesons from decays of bottom-flavoured hadrons is estimated to be negligibly small. New data taken by the DELPHI Collaboration at LEP2 nicely confirm these predictions, while they disfavour those obtained within the traditional colour-singlet model.Comment: 11 pages (Latex), 3 figures (Postscript); updated experimental data included, references added, accepted for publication in Phys.
