Laparoscopic management of fallopian tube prolapse masquerading as adenocarcinoma of the vagina in a hysterectomized woman

BACKGROUND: Fallopian tube prolapse as a complication of abdominal hysterectomy is a rare occurrence. A case with fallopian tube prolapse was managed by a combined vaginal and laparoscopic approach and description of the operative technique is presented. CASE PRESENTATION: A 39-year-old woman with vaginal prolapse of the fallopian tube after total abdominal hysterectomy presented with an incorrect diagnosis of adenocarcinoma of the vaginal apex. The prolapsed tube and cystic ovary were removed by vaginal and laparoscopic approach. The postoperative course went well. CONCLUSIONS: Early or late fallopian tube prolapse can occur after total abdominal hysterectomy and vaginal hysterectomy. Symptoms consist of persistent blood loss or leukorrhea, dyspareunia and chronic pelvic pain. Vaginal removal of prolapsed tube with laparoscopic surgery may be a suitable treatment. The abdominal or vaginal approach used in surgical correction of prolapsed tubes must be decided in each case according to the patient's individual characteristics

Slutsky Matrix Norms and Revealed Preference Tests of Consumer Behaviour

Given any observed finite sequence of prices, wealth and demand choices, we characterize the relation between its underlying Slutsky matrix norm (SMN) and some popular discrete revealed preference (RP) measures of departures from rationality, such as the Afriat index. We show that testing rationality in the SMN aproach with finite data is equivalent to testing it under the RP approach. We propose a way to "summarize" the departures from rationality in a systematic fashion in finite datasets. Finally, these ideas are extended to an observed demand with noise due to measurement error; we formulate an appropriate modification of the SMN approach in this case and derive closed-form asymptotic results under standard regularity conditions

Efficiency Versus Equality in Bargaining

We report experimental data from bargaining situations where bargainers can make proposals as often and whenever they want, and can communicate via written messages. We vary the set of feasible contracts, thereby allowing us to assess the focality of three properties of bargaining outcomes: equality, Pareto efficiency, and total earnings maximization. Our main findings are that subjects avoid an equal earnings contract if it is Pareto inefficient; a large proportion of bargaining pairs avoid equal and Pareto efficient contracts in favor of unequal and total earnings maximizing contracts, and this proportion increases when unequal contracts offer larger earnings to one of the players, even though this implies higher inequality. Finally, observed behavior violates the Independence of Irrelevant Alternatives axiom, a result we attribute to a "compromise effect"

Fallopian tube prolapse following abdominal hysterectomy

Fallopian tube prolapse following hysterectomy is a rare but recognised complication of gynaecological surgery. The majority of prolapses occur after vaginal hysterectomy Various methods of management have been proposed in the literature. This complication was first described by Pozzi in 1902. Since then, to our knowledge, 109 cases have been reported in the English literature, of which at least 23 occurred following total abdominal hysterectomy (Pubmed search using ‘fallopian tube AND prolapse’ as keywords). We observed 2 cases of Fallopian tube prolapse afker abdominal hysterectomy between April 1996 and June 1998, bringing the total number to 111 and the number following abdominal surgery to at least 25
