ZnO anchored graphene hydrophobic nanocomposite-based bulk heterojunction solar cells showing enhanced short-circuit current
Hydrophobic and surfactant-free ZnO nanoparticles and ZnO decorated graphene nanocomposite (Z@G) with narrow and uniform size distribution were synthesized by a time-efficient microwave-assisted hydrothermal reaction that can be used specifically for application in hybrid photovoltaics. The synthesized ZnO nanoparticles and Z@G nanocomposite showed stable and clear dispersion in chloroform and methanol (with volume ratio of 9 : 1) and chloroform and ethanol (volume ratio 9 : 1). Being hydrophobic, these inorganic samples blend very well with organic polymer solution in chlorobenzene, which is a prerequisite to cast smooth and undisrupted film for hybrid solar cell application. The introduction of these hydrophobic nanoparticles into PCPDTBT: PCBM-based bulk-heterojunction polymer solar cells resulted in significant improvement in solar cell J-V characteristics with enhancement in open circuit voltage (VOC), short circuit current density (JSC) and thereby overall improvement in cell efficiency. With the optimization of the weight ratio of polymer, fullerene and synthesized ZnO nanoparticles/Z@G nanocomposite, the power conversion efficiencies 1.76% and 3.65% were achieved

Co-Management in Capture Fisheries Is the Effective Way of Establishing Property Rights of the Poor Fisher in Bangladesh
The study is a modest attempt of assessing community-based management
of inland fisheries resources in Bangladesh to establishing access right to
the poor fishing communities. Co-management initiatives undertaken by
different institutes have established effective networking among
Community Based Organizations (CBOs). The initiatives also provided
fisheries management knowledge and created access to finance. Since the
country is endowed with enormous inland open water fisheries,
development of local institutions is a prime task. However, establishment
of access to waterbodies is not easy as government policies favored
powerful elites and local politicians. Diverse types of waterbodies and
related policies hindered successful fisheries management. Community
Based Fisheries Management (CBFM) approaches proved to establish
friendly local institution which, can access to resources, finance, skills and
income. The present study employed management information from a
range of different CBFM projects covered more than 300 waterbodies in
different geographic location from 1996 to 2008. This paper focuses on the
lessons, cage studies and challenges of CBFM initiatives. The sustainable
resources management, which is part and parcel of the CBFM approach,
has led to document environmental degradation, in comparison to current
indiscriminating over exploitation practices. This paper describes
distributional pattern of benefit depends on the strength and
appropriateness of the institutions, attitudes and social capital created for
all categories of stakeholders within the co-management approach. The

In vitro studies on antibacterial, antifungal, and cytotoxic properties of Leucas aspera
The leaves of the plant Leucas aspera belonging to the family Lamiaceae was studied to determine the in vitro antibacterial, antifungal, and cytotoxic properties. All extracts showed remarkable antibacterial activity against all of the studied organisms except Escherichia coli. Methanol extract showed stronger activity compared to ethyl acetate and petroleum ether extracts. It showed highest activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa with zone of inhibition of 15 mm. The standard chloramphenicol did not show any activity against Shigella sonnei. But all the extracts showed moderate activity against this pathogen with zone of inhibition ranging from 10 to 13 mm. None of the extracts has shown any significant antifungal activity against the fungi. Incase of brine shrimp lethality bioassay, methanol extract showed the strongest cytotoxic effect with LC50 value of 4.28 ÎĽg/ml which is followed by ethyl acetate extract with LC50 value of 5.36 ÎĽg/ml. Thus it can be inferred that this plant may be a potential source of novel bioactive compounds

"Death is a better option than being treated like this" : a prevalence survey and qualitative study of depression among multi-drug resistant tuberculosis in-patients
BACKGROUND: Understanding of the relationship between multi-drug resistant tuberculosis and mental health is limited. With growing prevalence of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis, addressing mental ill-health has potential to improve treatment outcomes and well-being. In several low and middle-income contexts hospitalisation during treatment is common. Understanding of the impact on mental ill-health are required to inform interventions for patients with multi-drug resistant tuberculosis. Our aim was to identify the prevalence of comorbid depression among in-patients being treated for multi-drug resistant tuberculosis and to explore their experiences of comorbid disease and the care they received in a large specialist chest hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh. METHODS: We conducted a quantitative cross-sectional survey among 150 multi-drug resistant tuberculosis in-patients (new cases = 34%, previously treated = 66%) in 2018. A psychiatrist assessed depression was assessed with the Structured Clinical Interview for Depression (SCID DSM-IV). We used multi-level modelling to identify associations with depression. Experience Bangladeshi researchers conducted qualitative interviews with 8 patients, 4 carers, 4 health professionals and reflective notes recorded. Qualitative data was analysed thematically. RESULTS: We found 33.8% (95% CI 26.7%; 41.7%) of patients were depressed. While more women were depressed 39.3% (95% CI 27.6%; 52.4%) than men 30.4% (95% CI 22%; 40.5%) this was not significant. After controlling for key variables only having one or more co-morbidity (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 2.88 [95% CI 1.13; 7.33]) and being a new rather than previously treated case (AOR = 2.33 [95% CI 1.06; 5.14]) were associated (positively) with depression. Qualitative data highlighted the isolation and despair felt by patients who described a service predominantly focused on providing medicines. Individual, familial, societal and health-care factors influenced resilience, nuanced by gender, socio-economic status and home location. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with multi-drug resistant tuberculosis are at high risk of depression, particularly those with co- and multi-morbidities. Screening for depression and psycho-social support should be integrated within routine TB services and provided throughout treatment
A new conceptual framework for maternal morbidity

Background: Globally, there is greater awareness of the plight of women who have complications associated with pregnancy or childbirth and who may continue to experience long-term problems. In addition, the health of women and their ability to perform economic and social functions are central to the Sustainable Development Goals. Methods: In 2012, WHO began an initiative to standardize the definition, conceptualization, and assessment of maternal morbidity. The culmination of this work was a conceptual framework: the Maternal Morbidity Measurement (MMM) Framework. Results: The framework underscores the broad ramifications of maternal morbidity and highlights what types of measurement are needed to capture what matters to women, service providers, and policy makers. Using examples from the literature, we explain the framework's principles and its most important elements. Conclusions: We express the need for comprehensive research and detailed longitudinal studies of women from early pregnancy to the extended postpartum period to understand how health and symptoms and signs of ill health change. With respect to interventions, there may be gaps in healthcare provision for women with chronic conditions and who are about to conceive. Women also require continuity of care at the primary care level beyond the customary 6 weeks postpartum
Validation of the WHO Disability Assessment Schedule (WHODAS 2.0) 12-item tool against the 36-item version for measuring functioning and disability associated with pregnancy and history of severe maternal morbidity

Objective: To validate the WHO Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0) 12-item tool against the 36-item version for measuring functioning and disability associated with pregnancy and the occurrence of maternal morbidity. Methods: This is a secondary analysis of the Brazilian retrospective cohort study on long-term repercussions of severe maternal morbidity (SMM) among women who delivered at a tertiary facility (COMMAG study). We compared WHODAS-12 and WHODAS-36 scores of women with and without SMM using measures of central tendency and variability, tests for instruments’ agreement (Bland-Altman plot), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and Cronbach alpha coefficient for internal consistency. Results: The COMMAG study enrolled 638 women up to 5 years postpartum. Although the median WHODAS-36 and -12 scores for all women were statistically different (13.04 and 11.76, respectively; P<0.001), there was a strong linear correlation between them. Furthermore, the mean difference and the differences in variance analyses demonstrated agreement of total scores between the two versions. CFA demonstrated how the WHODAS-12 questions are divided into six previously defined factors and Cronbach alpha showed good internal consistency. Conclusion: WHODAS-12 demonstrated agreement with WHODAS-36 for total score and was a good instrument for screening functioning and disability among postpartum women, with and without SMM
The impact of hypertension, hemorrhage, and other maternal morbidities on functioning in the postpartum period as assessed by the WHODAS 2.0 36-item tool

Objective: To assess the scores of postpartum women using the WHO Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 36-item tool (WHODAS-36), considering different morbidities. Methods: Secondary analysis of a retrospective cohort of women who delivered at a referral maternity in Brazil and were classified with and without severe maternal morbidity (SMM). WHODAS-36 was used to assess functioning in postpartum women. Percentile distribution of total WHODAS score was compared across three groups: Percentile (P)90. Cases of SMM were categorized and WHODAS-36 score was assessed according to hypertension, hemorrhage, or other conditions. Results: A total of 638 women were enrolled: 64 had mean scores below P90 (41.3). Of women scoring above P>90, those with morbidity had a higher mean score than those without (44.6% vs 36.8%, P=0.879). Women with higher WHODAS-36 scores presented more complications during pregnancy, especially hypertension (47.0% vs 37.5%, P=0.09). Mean scores among women with any complication were higher than those with no morbidity (19.0 vs 14.2, P=0.01). WHODAS-36 scores were higher among women with hypertensive complications (19.9 vs 16.0, P=0.004), but lower among those with hemorrhagic complications (13.8 vs 17.7, P=0.09). Conclusions: Complications during pregnancy, childbirth, and the puerperium increase long-term WHODAS-36 scores, demonstrating a persistent impact on functioning among women, up to 5 years postpartum

component in maize that affects the availability
of major micro-nutrients like di- and multivalent
mineral cations like iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn).
The long-term consumption of maize as a staple food
crop leads to micronutrient malnutrition especially
iron and zinc deficiency in the human population. In
addition, it also acts as a storehouse of a major part of
mineral phosphorous (P), approximately 80% of the
total P stored as phytate P is not available to monogastric
animals like humans and poultry birds, and it gets excreted as such, leading to one of the major
environmental pollution called eutrophication. Of the
various low phytic acid (lpa) mutants, lpa2-2 generated
through mutagenesis reduces PA by 30%. BML 6
and BML 45, the parents of the popular maize hybrid
DHM 121 with high PA were selected to introgress
lpa2-2 through marker-assisted backcross breeding
(MABB). The percent recurrent parental genome
(RPG) in the selected BC2F2
plants ranged from 88.68
to 91.04% and 90.09–91.51% in the genetic background
of BML 6 and BML 45, respectively. Based
on the highest percentage of RPG, best five BC2F2
plants, viz., #3190, #3283, #3230, #3263 and #3292
with RPG 88.68–91.04% in the genetic background of
BML 6 and #3720, #3776, #3717, #3828 and #3832
with RPG 90.09–91.51% in the genetic background
of BML 45 were advanced to BC2F3.
The newly
developed near-isogenic lines (NILs) possessed low
phytate content (2.37 mg/g in BML 6 and 2.40 mg/g
in BML 45) compared to 3.59 mg/g and 3.16 mg/g in
recurrent parents BML 6 and BML 45, respectively
thereby reducing the phytate by an average of 34 and
24 per cent, respectively. These newly developed
progenies were similar to their recurrent parents for
various morphological traits. These inbreds assume
great significance in alleviating Fe and Zn deficiencies
