A Sterile Neutrino Search with Kaon Decay-at-rest

Monoenergetic muon neutrinos (235.5 MeV) from positive kaon decay-at-rest are considered as a source for an electron neutrino appearance search. In combination with a liquid argon time projection chamber based detector, such a source could provide discovery-level sensitivity to the neutrino oscillation parameter space indicative of a sterile neutrino. Current and future intense >3 GeV kinetic energy proton facilities around the world can be employed for this experimental concept.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figure

Personal Roots of Representation: Applying Burden\u27s Model to Female Leaders in State Legislatures

The role of women in politics is not a new concern in the United States. However, the number of women being elected into leadership positions at all levels of government is growing. Reasons for women\u27s political drive and ambition stem from various aspects of their life. Barry Burden believes that the roots of personal representation like a representative\u27s religion, education, and home life are important factors that drive politicians in their careers. Burden\u27s model can be used to understand why women in leadership roles are motivated in a certain way to represent and respond to constituents. Specifically, this research studies women who are leaders in state legislatures, in both the Republican and Democratic parties. This case study analysis focuses on representatives from Arizona, Oregon, Illinois, Louisiana, and Maine because of the different political cultures each state has. Information on the legislators will come from certified campaign websites, personal websites, and Project Vote Smart. All of these sources combined will help with the understanding and analysis of Burden\u27s model of roots or representation, as it is applied to these female legislators. The goal of this research is to analyze the application and limitations of Burden\u27s model and to gain a better understanding of whether gender does make a difference with state legislative leaders

The author uses the punctuated equilibrium model to assess the growth and continued path of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. The author illustrates not only how the model helps to understand the initiative, but how the variables pertaining to the initiative also provide a greater understanding of the model, and how to change it. The author concludes by addressing how the model could change to be more responsive

Polish Video Game Market – Present Situation and Perspectives for the Future

Video Game Market has develop vastly throughout last 60 years. Even though because of communism system we started developing our first companies in the 90’ we were able to establish more than few companies that are creating admired products – both in AAA games and smaller categories. Most successful polish companies such as CD Projekt Red, Techland and CI Games are in good financial shape after releasing games such as Wither 3 or Dying Light that were acclaimed one the best products of 2015 and 2016. In the same time we can observe rise of many new promising smaller studios such as 11 bit studios. Considering this situation and new government program GameINN which will support innovative new productions we can predict that polish video game market will be still developing quickly.Rynek gier komputerowych w ciągu ostatnich 60 lat rozwijał się w niezwykle szybkim tempie. Mimo faktu że przez opóźnienie technologiczne wynikające z komunizmu pierwsze firmy produkujące gry komputerowe zaczęły w Polsce funkcjonować dopiero w latach 90. XX wieku, powstała u nas całkiem imponująca liczba firm, które są w stanie tworzyć gry podziwiane na całym świecie – zarówno z sektora AAA, jak i mniejszych produktów. Najlepsze polskie firmy, jak CD Projekt Red, Techland czy CI Games, są w dobrej kondycji finansowej po wypuszczeniu hitów takich, jak Wiedźmin 3 czy Dying Light, które znalazły się w gronie najlepszych gier 2015 i 2016 roku. W tym samym czasie mogliśmy też obserwować rozwój obiecujących mniejszych developerów, jak 11 bit studios. Biorąc pod uwagę tę sytuację na rynku oraz wchodzący program rządowy GameINN, który ma wspierać innowacyjne nowe produkcje, możemy przewidywać, że polski rynek gier wideo nadal będzie się bardzo szybko rozwijał

Organizations, Women, and Political Participation

The author considers the relationship between the percentage of women in state legislatures and the presence of organizations that encourage female participation in politics and the pursuit of higher office. Using a qualitative analysis of a number of states, the author finds areas of support for the hypothesis but also finds areas where other states can improve
