Non-existence of non-constant positive steady states of two Holling type-II predator-prey systems: Strong interaction case
We prove the non-existence of non-constant positive steady state solutions of two reaction-diffusion predator-prey models with Holling type-II functional response when the interaction between the predator and the prey is strong. The result implies that the global bifurcating branches of steady state solutions are bounded loops. (C) 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved

ViP-Mixer: A Convolutional Mixer for Video Prediction
Video prediction aims to predict future frames from a video's previous
content. Existing methods mainly process video data where the time dimension
mingles with the space and channel dimensions from three distinct angles: as a
sequence of individual frames, as a 3D volume in spatiotemporal coordinates, or
as a stacked image where frames are treated as separate channels. Most of them
generally focus on one of these perspectives and may fail to fully exploit the
relationships across different dimensions. To address this issue, this paper
introduces a convolutional mixer for video prediction, termed ViP-Mixer, to
model the spatiotemporal evolution in the latent space of an autoencoder. The
ViP-Mixers are stacked sequentially and interleave feature mixing at three
levels: frames, channels, and locations. Extensive experiments demonstrate that
our proposed method achieves new state-of-the-art prediction performance on
three benchmark video datasets covering both synthetic and real-world
scenarios.Comment: Under revie
The use of comparative genomic hybridization to characterize genome dynamics and diversity among the serotypes of Shigella
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Compelling evidence indicates that <it>Shigella </it>species, the etiologic agents of bacillary dysentery, as well as <it>enteroinvasive Escherichia coli</it>, are derived from multiple origins of <it>Escherichia coli </it>and form a single pathovar. To further understand the genome diversity and virulence evolution of <it>Shigella</it>, comparative genomic hybridization microarray analysis was employed to compare the gene content of <it>E. coli </it>K-12 with those of 43 <it>Shigella </it>strains from all lineages.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>For the 43 strains subjected to CGH microarray analyses, the common backbone of the <it>Shigella </it>genome was estimated to contain more than 1,900 open reading frames (ORFs), with a mean number of 726 undetectable ORFs. The mosaic distribution of absent regions indicated that insertions and/or deletions have led to the highly diversified genomes of pathogenic strains.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>These results support the hypothesis that by gain and loss of functions, <it>Shigella </it>species became successful human pathogens through convergent evolution from diverse genomic backgrounds. Moreover, we also found many specific differences between different lineages, providing a window into understanding bacterial speciation and taxonomic relationships.</p
Normal Values of Myocardial Deformation Assessed by Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Feature Tracking in a Healthy Chinese Population: A Multicenter Study
Reference values on atrial and ventricular strain from cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) are essential in identifying patients with impaired atrial and ventricular function. However, reference values have not been established for Chinese subjects. One hundred and fifty healthy volunteers (75 Males/75 Females; 18–82 years) were recruited. All underwent CMR scans with images acceptable for further strain analysis. Subjects were stratified by age: Group 1, 18–44 years; Group 2, 45–59 years; Group 3, ≥60 years. Feature tracking of CMR cine imaging was used to obtain left atrial global longitudinal (LA Ell) and circumferential strains (LA Ecc) and respective systolic strain rates, left ventricular longitudinal (LV Ell), circumferential (LV Ecc) and radial strains (LV Err) and their respective strain rates, and right ventricular longitudinal strain (RV Ell) and strain rate. LA Ell and LA Ecc were 32.8 ± 9.2% and 40.3 ± 13.4%, respectively, and RV Ell was −29.3 ± 6.0%. LV Ell, LV Ecc and LV Err were −22.4 ± 2.9%, −24.3 ± 3.1%, and 79.0 ± 19.4%, respectively. LV Ell and LV Ecc were higher in females than males (P < 0.05). LA Ell, LA Ecc, and LV Ecc decreased, while LV Err increased with age (P < 0.05). LV Ell and RV Ell were not shown to be associated with age. Normal ranges for atrial and ventricular strain and strain rates are provided using CMR feature tracking in Chinese subjects
Detection of a superconducting phase in a two-atom layer of hexagonal Ga film grown on semiconducting GaN(0001)
The recent observation of superconducting state at atomic scale has motivated
the pursuit of exotic condensed phases in two-dimensional (2D) systems. Here we
report on a superconducting phase in two-monolayer crystalline Ga films
epitaxially grown on wide band-gap semiconductor GaN(0001). This phase exhibits
a hexagonal structure and only 0.552 nm in thickness, nevertheless, brings
about a superconducting transition temperature Tc as high as 5.4 K, confirmed
by in situ scanning tunneling spectroscopy, and ex situ electrical
magneto-transport and magnetization measurements. The anisotropy of critical
magnetic field and Berezinski-Kosterlitz-Thouless-like transition are observed,
typical for the 2D superconductivity. Our results demonstrate a novel platform
for exploring atomic-scale 2D superconductor, with great potential for
understanding of the interface superconductivity
The Immunologic Injury Composite with Balloon Injury Leads to Dyslipidemia: A Robust Rabbit Model of Human Atherosclerosis and Vulnerable Plaque
Atherosclerosis is a condition in which a lipid deposition, thrombus formation, immune cell infiltration, and a chronic inflammatory response, but its systemic study has been hampered by the lack of suitable animal models, especially in herbalism fields. We have tried to perform a perfect animal model that completely replicates the stages of human atherosclerosis. This is the first combined study about the immunologic injury and balloon injury based on the cholesterol diet. In this study, we developed a modified protocol of the white rabbit model that could represent a novel approach to studying human atherosclerosis and vulnerable plaque
