Effect of electrolyte on synergism of anionic-nonionic surfactant mixture
In this study, anionic (Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate) and nonionic (Triton X l00) surfactants mixture (1:1 mass ratio) were evaluated for synergism in Critical Micelle Concentration (CMC) at different ionic strength values. Interaction between the binary surfactant mixture was studied by surface and interfacial tensions. The composition of mixed micelles and the interaction parameter, β evaluated from the CMC data obtained by both surface and interfacial tensions for different systems using Rubingh’ s theory were discussed. Increase in the records of southern elephant seal (mirounga leonina) in the Buenos Aires districts of general Pueyrredón and General Alvarado, Buenos Aires province, Argentina
Se revisan los registros del elefante marino del sur, Mirounga leonina, en distintas áreas de la costa del AtlánticoSudoccidental, comparando los datos históricos (1940-1982) con registros más recientes (1985-2022) en los partidosbonaerenses de General Alvarado y General Pueyrredón, abarcando un área costera de 102,2 km. El incremento observadoen la cantidad de registros en el área bonaerense en este muestreo, particularmente durante los meses de muda anual de pelajeen primavera y verano, es coincidente con el mayor uso turístico recreativo de las playas. Los datos refuerzan la necesidad deimplementar medidas efectivas de conservación en la zona.The records for southern elephant seals, Mirounga leonina in different areas of the Southwest Atlantic coast are reviewed, comparing historical data (1940-1982) with more recent records (1985-2022) with particular interest in the Buenos Aires districts of General Alvarado and General Pueyrredón, covering a coastal area of 102.2 km. The increase observed in the number of records in the Buenos Aires area in this sampling, particularly during the months of annual fur molting is coincident with the greater recreational and touristic use of the beaches in spring and summer, and reinforces the need to implement effective conservation measures.Fil: Junin, Marcela. Elefante marino del sur, el habitante patagónico que veranea en la Costa Atlántica
El elefante marino del sur se reproduce en colonias insulares, la única elefanteria reproductiva continental de la especie se encuentra en la Provincia de Chubut, sin embargo numerosos registros de salida a playa se distribuyen a lo largo de toda la costa argentina. Con el aumento poblacional de las ultimas décadas el aumento llamativo de registros de la especie en las costas bonaerenses a cuyas playas salen a descansar o mudar de piel hacen necesarias medidas de protección especificas, ya que el periodo de muda ( Primavera para las hembras y verano otoño para los machos) coincide con el uso turístico recreativo de las playas .Fil: Junin, Marcela. Osteological analysis in specimens of Fraser's dolphin (Lagenodelphis hosei Fraser, 1956) from the coast of Buenos Aires, Argentina
La presencia de Lagenodelphis hosei en las aguas templadas del Mar Argentino es un hecho raro, debido a su preferencia por la aguas tropicales y pelágicas. Con motivo de aumentar la información disponible sobre el delfín de Fraser en aguas del Atlántico sudoccidental se realizó un análisis morfológico y morfométrico del cráneo y el esqueleto postcraneal sobre cinco ejemplares varados a fines del año 2000 en el Río de La Plata, entre las localidades de Punta Lara y Magdalena, provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Los resultados obtenidos fueron comparados con datos provenientes de ejemplares de otras regiones geográficas. De esta comparación se observó que los ejemplares del Atlántico Sudoccidental descritos en el presente estudio presentan una caja craneana de mayor tamaño, y la relación en el ancho de las narinas, entre machos y hembras, es inversa a la observada en otros especímenes de áreas extra sudamericanas.The presence of Lagenodelphis hosei in temperate waters of the Argentinian Sea is a rare event because of its preference for pelagic and tropical waters. With the aim to increment the available information on the Fraser´s dolphin in Soutwestern Atlantic waters, we made a morphological and morphometric analysis of skull and postcranial skeleton of five specimens stranded at the end of the 2000 year, in the La Plata River, between Punta Lara and Magdalena localities, at Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. The results were compared with data source from non-South American areas. We observed that specimens of the Southwestern Atlantic described in this study tend to have larger braincase size and the size relation of external nares between males and females is inverse to that seen in specimens of geographically distant areas.Fil: Lucero, Sergio. Experimental investigation and simplistic geochemical modeling of CO2 mineral carbonation using the mount tawai peridotite
In this work, the potential of CO2 mineral carbonation of brucite (Mg(OH)2) derived from the Mount Tawai peridotite (forsterite based (Mg)2SiO4) to produce thermodynamically stable magnesium carbonate (MgCO3) was evaluated. The effect of three main factors (reaction temperature, particle size, and water vapor) were investigated in a sequence of experiments consisting of aqueous acid leaching, evaporation to dryness of the slurry mass, and then gas-solid carbonation under pressurized CO2. The maximum amount of Mg converted to MgCO3 is ∼99%, which occurred at temperatures between 150 and 175 °C. It was also found that the reduction of particle size range from >200 to <75 μm enhanced the leaching rate significantly. In addition, the results showed the essential role of water vapor in promoting effective carbonation. By increasing water vapor concentration from 5 to 10 vol %, the mineral carbonation rate increased by 30%. This work has also numerically modeled the process by which CO2 gas may be sequestered, by reaction with forsterite in the presence of moisture. In both experimental analysis and geochemical modeling, the results showed that the reaction is favored and of high yield; going almost to completion (within about one year) with the bulk of the carbon partitioning into magnesite and that very little remains in solution
Nanotechnology Application in Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery: Current Opinion and Recent Advances
Chemical enhanced oil recovery (EOR) has been adjudged as an efficient oil recovery technique to recover bypassed oil and residual oil trapped in the reservoir. This EOR method relies on the injection of chemicals to boost oil recovery. Recently, due to the limitations of the application of chemical EOR methods to reservoirs having elevated temperatures and high salinity and hardness concentrations, nanotechnology have been applied to enhance its efficiency and improve oil productivity. The synergistic combination of nanoparticles and conventional EOR chemicals has opened new routes for the synthesis and application of novel materials with sterling and fascinating properties. In this chapter, an up-to-date synopsis of nanotechnology applications in chemical EOR is discussed. A detailed explanation of the mechanism and applications of these novel methods for oil recovery are appraised and analyzed. Finally, experimental and laboratory results were outlined. This overview presents extensive information about new frontiers in chemical EOR applications for sustainable energy production
Impact of geological interpretation on reservoir 3D static model: work flow, methodological approach and delivery process
The traditional method of geologic modelling requires the interpretation of geological sections during digitization. But this traditional method has its limitations, the main limits are; it is usually time consuming and the model produced is unique to each individual geologist interpretation and may not be easily replicated by others. This study proposes an alternative workflow method for modelling, constructing and interpreting 3D geologic static model with multi-source data integration. The volume base method (VBM) was used to construct the 3D model. The combination of deterministic and probabilistic methods was used to model the facies workflow process to capture the geometrics of depositional environmental element. The truncated Gaussian simulation method was used with vertical trends option to obtain vertical transitional lithofacies in most of the reservoirs. Verification of results and detailed discussion of the proposed workflow and methodology is based on comparison with the conventional method. The saturation height function (SHF) equation applied to the water saturation model and permeability model improved the 3-D properties modelling workflow. The pillar gridding process was identified as the stage that increases the timeframe in 3-D modelling workflow. The results have proven to improve the overall timeframe and maximize the value of the field studies. The proposed method can be applied to a broad and complex geologic area. And is useful for marginal field development, by contributing economically and improving the deliverability of the entire project
