    Result of a year-long animal survey in a state-owned forest farm in Beijing, China

    BackgroundArtificial forest can have great potential in serving as habitat to wildlife, depending on different management methods. As the state-owned forest farms now play a new role in ecological conservation in China, the biological richness of this kind of land-use type is understudied. Once owned by a mining company, a largest state-owned forest farm, Jingxi Forest Farm, has been reformed to be a state-owned forest farm with the purpose of conservation since 2017. Although this 116.4 km2 forest farm holds a near-healthy montaine ecosystem very representative in North China, a large proportion of artificial coniferous forest in the forest farm has been proven to hold less biodiversity than natural vegetation. This situation, however, provides a great opportunity for ecological restoration and biodiversity conservation. Therefore, from November 2019 to December 2020, we conducted a set of biodiversity surveys, whose results will serve as a baseline for further restoration and conservation.New informationHere, we report the result of a multi-taxa fauna diversity survey conducted in Jingxi Forest Farm mainly in year 2020 with explicit spatial information. It is the first survey of its kind conducted in this area, revealing a total of 19 species of mammals, 86 birds, four reptiles, two amphibians and one fish species, as well as 101 species of insects. Four species of mammals are identified as data-poor species as they have less than 100 occurrence records with coordination in the GBIF database.     Imaging Analysis of Primary Malignant Intracranial Lymphoma

    OBJECTIVE To investigate the images characteristics of primary malignant intracranial lymphoma . METHODS Retrospective study was conducted on CT/MRI imaging characteristics of 9 cases with primary malignant intracranial lymphoma.RESULTS The patients had lesions mostly in the supratentorial region, including the parts of deep white mat er, para-ependymal regions, and corpus callosum. The shapes of the lesions were round or irregular. CT scan showed equal or slightly high density of the tumor images, compared with the normal tissue in the brain. The T1WI of MRI scan on the tumor showed low signal and the T2WI showed equal or slightly high signal. The MRI signals were homogenous. Cystic lesion, calcification, and hemorrhage were rarely seen in MRI. Edema around tumor and its occupational effect was lessened. Edema around tumor shown in MRI was not in accordance with the true volume of the tumor mass.Enhanced scan on the lesions showed homogenous enhancement, and the pia mater invaded and/or the spread along ependyma. CONCLUSION Images of primary malignant intracranial lymphoma have specific characteristics that are useful in its diagnosis and diff erential diagnosis

    ABSTRACT NEDDylation has been shown to participate in the DNA damage pathway, but the substrates of neural precursor cell expressed developmentally downregulated 8 (NEDD8) and the roles of NEDDylation involved in the DNA damage response (DDR) are largely unknown. Translesion synthesis (TLS) is a damage-tolerance mechanism, in which RAD18/RAD6-mediated monoubiquitinated proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) promotes recruitment of polymerase η (polη) to bypass lesions. Here we identify PCNA as a substrate of NEDD8, and show that E3 ligase RAD18-catalyzed PCNA NEDDylation antagonizes its ubiquitination. In addition, NEDP1 acts as the deNEDDylase of PCNA, and NEDP1 deletion enhances PCNA NEDDylation but reduces its ubiquitination. In response to H2O2 stimulation, NEDP1 disassociates from PCNA and RAD18-dependent PCNA NEDDylation increases markedly after its ubiquitination. Impairment of NEDDylation by Ubc12 knockout enhances PCNA ubiquitination and promotes PCNA-polη interaction, while up-regulation of NEDDylation by NEDD8 overexpression or NEDP1 deletion reduces the excessive accumulation of ubiquitinated PCNA, thus inhibits PCNA-polη interaction and blocks polη foci formation. Moreover, Ubc12 knockout decreases cell sensitivity to H2O2-induced oxidative stress, but NEDP1 deletion aggravates this sensitivity. Collectively, our study elucidates the important role of NEDDylation in the DDR as a modulator of PCNA monoubiquitination and polη recruitment

    Forecasting Model for Stock Market Based on Probabilistic Linguistic Logical Relationship and Distance Measurement

    The fluctuation of the stock market has a symmetrical characteristic. To improve the performance of self-forecasting, it is crucial to summarize and accurately express internal fluctuation rules from the historical time series dataset. However, due to the influence of external interference factors, these internal rules are difficult to express by traditional mathematical models. In this paper, a novel forecasting model is proposed based on probabilistic linguistic logical relationships generated from historical time series dataset. The proposed model introduces linguistic variables with positive and negative symmetrical judgements to represent the direction of stock market fluctuation. Meanwhile, daily fluctuation trends of a stock market are represented by a probabilistic linguistic term set, which consist of daily status and its recent historical statuses. First, historical time series of a stock market is transformed into a fluctuation time series (FTS) by the first-order difference transformation. Then, a fuzzy linguistic variable is employed to represent each value in the fluctuation time series, according to predefined intervals. Next, left hand sides of fuzzy logical relationships between currents and their corresponding histories can be expressed by probabilistic linguistic term sets and similar ones can be grouped to generate probabilistic linguistic logical relationships. Lastly, based on the probabilistic linguistic term set expression of the current status and the corresponding historical statuses, distance measurement is employed to find the most proper probabilistic linguistic logical relationship for future forecasting. For the convenience of comparing the prediction performance of the model from the perspective of accuracy, this paper takes the closing price dataset of Taiwan Stock Exchange Capitalization Weighted Stock Index (TAIEX) as an example. Compared with the prediction results of previous studies, the proposed model has the advantages of stable prediction performance, simple model design, and an easy to understand platform. In order to test the performance of the model for other datasets, we use the prediction of the Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index (SHSECI) to prove its universality

    A Scale-Adaptive Matching Algorithm for Underwater Acoustic and Optical Images

    Underwater acoustic and optical data fusion has been developed in recent decades. Matching of underwater acoustic and optical images is a fundamental and critical problem in underwater exploration because it usually acts as the key step in many applications, such as target detection, ocean observation, and joint positioning. In this study, a method of matching the same underwater object in acoustic and optical images was designed, consisting of two steps. First, an enhancement step is used to enhance the images and ensure the accuracy of the matching results based on iterative processing and estimate similarity. The acoustic and optical images are first pre-processed with the aim of eliminating the influence of contrast degradation, contour blur, and image noise. A method for image enhancement was designed based on iterative processing. In addition, a new similarity estimation method for acoustic and optical images is also proposed to provide the enhancement effect. Second, a matching step is used to accurately find the corresponding object in the acoustic images that appears in the underwater optical images. In the matching process, a correlation filter is applied to determine the correlation for matching between images. Due to the differences of angle and imaging principle between underwater optical and acoustic images, there may be major differences of size between two images of the same object. In order to eliminate the effect of these differences, we introduce the Gaussian scale-space, which is fused with multi-scale detection to determine the matching results. Therefore, the algorithm is insensitive to scale differences. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of our proposed method in matching acoustic and optical images

    Osthole prevents cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury via Notch signaling pathway

    Stroke is a common cerebrovascular disease in aged population with the second leading mortality and the leading cause of permanent disability, and the ischemic stroke is the primary form. Osthole is a coumarin derivative extracted from the fruits of Cnidium monnieri (Linn.) Cuss. In this study, we established the rat middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (MCAO/R) model in vivo, and found that MCAO/R caused cerebral infarction, hippocampus neuronal injury and apoptosis, and also activated the Notch 1 signaling pathway. However, the treatment of Osthole further enhanced the activity of Notch 1 signaling, and reduced the cerebral infarction, hippocampus neuronal injury and apoptosis induced by MCAO/R in a dose-dependent manner. The same results were observed in primary neuronal oxygen glucose deficiency/reperfusion (OGD/R) model in vitro, and also the effect of Osthole could be blocked by a inhibitor of Notch 1 signaling, DAPT. Therefore, we demonstrated that Osthole injection prevented rat ischemia/reperfusion injury via activating Notch 1 signaling pathway in vivo and in vitro in a dose-dependent manner, which may be of great significant for clinical treatment of ischemic stroke.The accepted manuscript in pdf format is listed with the files at the bottom of this page.     Determination and characterization of molecular heterogeneity and precision medicine strategies of patients with pancreatic cancer and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor based on oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction-related genes

    BackgroundMitochondria are significant both for cellular energy production and reactive oxygen/nitrogen species formation. However, the significant functions of mitochondrial genes related to oxidative stress (MTGs-OS) in pancreatic cancer (PC) and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (PNET) are yet to be investigated integrally. Therefore, in pan-cancer, particularly PC and PNET, a thorough assessment of the MTGs-OS is required.MethodsExpression patterns, prognostic significance, mutation data, methylation rates, and pathway-regulation interactions were studied to comprehensively elucidate the involvement of MTGs-OS in pan-cancer. Next, we separated the 930 PC and 226 PNET patients into 3 clusters according to MTGs-OS expression and MTGs-OS scores. LASSO regression analysis was utilized to construct a novel prognostic model for PC. qRT-PCR(Quantitative real-time PCR) experiments were performed to verify the expression levels of model genes.ResultsThe subtype associated with the poorest prognosis and lowerest MTGs-OS scores was Cluster 3, which could demonstrate the vital function of MTGs-OS for the pathophysiological processes of PC. The three clusters displayed distinct variations in the expression of conventional cancer-associated genes and the infiltration of immune cells. Similar molecular heterogeneity was observed in patients with PNET. PNET patients with S1 and S2 subtypes also showed distinct MTGs-OS scores. Given the important function of MTGs-OS in PC, a novel and robust MTGs-related prognostic signature (MTGs-RPS) was established and identified for predicting clinical outcomes for PC accurately. Patients with PC were separated into the training, internal validation, and external validation datasets at random; the expression profile of MTGs-OS was used to classify patients into high-risk (poor prognosis) or low-risk (good prognosis) categories. The variations in the tumor immune microenvironment may account for the better prognoses observed in high-risk individuals relative to low-risk ones.ConclusionsOverall, our study for the first time identified and validated eleven MTGs-OS remarkably linked to the progression of PC and PNET, and elaborated the biological function and prognostic value of MTGs-OS. Most importantly, we established a novel protocol for the prognostic evaluation and individualized treatment for patients with PC
