Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Fields: The Importance of the Need to Belong and Self-Esteem on the Intention to Leave a Job
The purpose of the study was to predict individual intentions to leave science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) field jobs. Psychological predictors were gender, the need to belong, self-esteem, perceived personal discrimination, and perceived group discrimination. We used the Amazon Mechanical Turk to recruit participants and Survey Monkey to conduct an online survey. Participants were 174 men and women who worked or studied in STEM fields. Two-step hierarchical linear regression analyses were performed to analyze the data. As a result, we found that all predictors mentioned above accounted for the variance in the intention to leave a job. Self-esteem and perceived personal discrimination were critical predictors for men in STEM fields; self-esteem and perceived group discrimination were critical predictors for women in STEM fields. For women, interestingly, the interaction effect of the need to belong and self-esteem added an additional variance in predicting the intention to leave a job. The need to belong buffered the effect of self-esteem on the intention of STEM women to leave a job. Thus, it might be that STEM women with low self-esteem are more likely to change a job if their need to belong is not fulfilled
Viewer Number Cues in Fashion E-Commerce: The moderating effect of category knowledge
Just a mere existence of peer shoppers affects customers’ emotional as well as cognitive responses towards the store environment (e.g., Argo, Dahl, & Manchanda, 2005). The size of an in-store mere social presence, or retail density, has received a significant research interest in traditional retail settings (e.g., van Rompay et al., 2012). Then, would a similar idea of mere social presence exist in Web-based environments, affecting shoppers? Fashion retail websites provide similar numeric cues signaling traffic, or virtual density, of their websites, such as viewer number cues (hereafter VNC)
Plausible vs. Implausible Tensile Price Claim: Selective Accessibility Model Approach
Given three types of tensile price claims (TPCs; Save 30% or more, Save up to Y%, and Save 30-Y%), when Y is a plausible discount (60%), the results showed that max expected price discount (EPD) was lower and perceived savings and price fairness were higher for the TPC stating a min savings than one that states a max or a range of savings. In contrast, when the Y% is implausible (90%), the consumers\u27 EPD was not adjusted depending on the TPC, resulting in no difference in perceptions of price discount across the different types of TPCs. If high and plausible discount percentages are used in a TPC and only a few products are discounted at that high level, this may decrease overall sales per customer for the majority of the products with lower discounts. Thus, marketers should select appropriate price promotion ads carefully
T-shirt Resurgence
The purpose of this design was to create sustainable clothing and help prevent fabric waste by repurposing old and used t-shirts. The dress incorporates bohemian styles that bring a free spirit and happy mood to the garment. This dress is made with my husband’s old t-shirts; the old ones with holes and stains that served years of purpose, but had reached the end of life. The t-shirts were cut with hundreds of stripes. Then, the dress was made using several hand weaving and knotting techniques, such as basket weaves for overall garment, backward and forward knots for waist and hem areas, and a three color fishtail for the shoulder straps. The dress was made directly on the dress form, and with the exception of the sown on hooks on the back, there was no sewing or needle engaged in creating the garment
Implementation of Lifelong Learning Policies in South Korea: A World Society Perspective4
This study examines the process of the implementation of lifelong learning policies in South Korea, and builds on a world society perspective, which views international organizations as major agents that diffuse the norm of lifelong learning across nations. Analysis of literature reveals that UNESCO through international conference on adult education (CONFINTEA) played a decisive role in South Korea’s adaptation of lifelong learning as a national agenda
Origami Blossom
The purpose of this clothing design is to create an elegant garment with elements of an origami rose
The Hive
Inspiration of this presented outfit was derived from a honeycomb. Over 100 layers of fabric were ironed and attached using fusible bonding webs. Then, attached fabrics were cut to create the 3D hive sha
The Effect of Price Discount Disconfirmation on Customers’ Perceptions
Research on price promotions suggests that higher discounts often result in more favorable evaluation. However, price signals more information than just monetary cost, and dramatic price changes impact consumers’ negative perceptions of the product. Customers perceive discounter prices as high or low relative to their own internal standard
