Click-aware purchase prediction with push at the top
Eliciting user preferences from purchase records for performing purchase
prediction is challenging because negative feedback is not explicitly observed,
and because treating all non-purchased items equally as negative feedback is
unrealistic. Therefore, in this study, we present a framework that leverages
the past click records of users to compensate for the missing user-item
interactions of purchase records, i.e., non-purchased items. We begin by
formulating various model assumptions, each one assuming a different order of
user preferences among purchased, clicked-but-not-purchased, and non-clicked
items, to study the usefulness of leveraging click records. We implement the
model assumptions using the Bayesian personalized ranking model, which
maximizes the area under the curve for bipartite ranking. However, we argue
that using click records for bipartite ranking needs a meticulously designed
model because of the relative unreliableness of click records compared with
that of purchase records. Therefore, we ultimately propose a novel
learning-to-rank method, called P3Stop, for performing purchase prediction. The
proposed model is customized to be robust to relatively unreliable click
records by particularly focusing on the accuracy of top-ranked items.
Experimental results on two real-world e-commerce datasets demonstrate that
P3STop considerably outperforms the state-of-the-art implicit-feedback-based
recommendation methods, especially for top-ranked items.Comment: For the final published journal version, see

Characteristics of the Korean stock market correlations
In this study, we establish a network structure of the Korean stock market,
one of the emerging markets, with its minimum spanning tree through the
correlation matrix. Base on this analysis, it is found that the Korean stock
market doesn't form the clusters of the business sectors or of the industry
categories. When the MSCI (Morgan Stanley Capital International Inc.) index is
exploited, we found that the clusters of the Korean stock market is formed.
This finding implicates that the Korean market, in this context, is

Alpha-tocopherol exerts protective function against the mucotoxicity of particulate matter in amphibian and human goblet cells
Exposure to particulate matter (PM) in ambient air is known to increase the risk of cardiovascular disorders and mortality. The cytotoxicity of PM is mainly due to the abnormal increase of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which damage cellular components such as DNA, RNA, and proteins. The correlation between PM exposure and human disorders, including mortality, is based on long-term exposure. In this study we have investigated acute responses of mucus-secreting goblet cells upon exposure to PM derived from a heavy diesel engine. To this end, we employed the mucociliary epithelium of amphibian embryos and human Calu-3 cells to examine PM mucotoxicity. Our data suggest that acute exposure to PM significantly impairs mucus secretion and results in the accumulation of mucus vesicles in the cytoplasm of goblet cells. RNA-seq analysis revealed that acute responses to PM exposure significantly altered gene expression patterns; however, known regulators of mucus production and the secretory pathway were not significantly altered. Interestingly, pretreatment with alpha-tocopherol nearly recovered the hyposecretion of mucus from both amphibian and human goblet cells. We believe this study demonstrates the mucotoxicity of PM and the protective function of alpha-tocopherol on mucotoxicity caused by acute PM exposure from heavy diesel engines
A standardized extract of Rhynchosia volubilis Lour. exerts a protective effect on benzalkonium chloride-induced mouse dry eye model
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE In contrast to other leguminous plants generally used as food, Rhynchosia volubilis Loureiro, a small soybean with a black seed coat, has been used as a traditional oriental remedy for various human diseases in Eastern Asia. In this study, we demonstrated the protective effect of R. volubilis against dry eye disease. AIM OF THE STUDY We aimed to investigate whether a standardized ethanol extract of R. volubilis (EERV) can protect the cornea in a benzalkonium chloride (BAC)-induced mouse dry eye model. MATERIALS AND METHODS Experimental dry eye was induced by the instillation of 0.2% BAC on mouse cornea. A standardized ethanol extract of R. volubilis (EERV) was orally administered following BAC treatment. The positive control group was treated with commercial eye drops. Fluorescein staining, tear break-up time (BUT), and hematoxylin and eosin staining were evaluated on the ocular surface. Squamous metaplasia and apoptosis in the corneal epithelial layer were detected by immunostaining. Furthermore, the protein expression of cytochrome c, Bcl-2, and Bax was determined. RESULTS EERV treatment significantly improved fluorescein scoring, BUT, and smoothness in the cornea compared to the vehicle group. In addition, EERV inhibited squamous metaplasia and apoptosis in the cornea. The expression of cytochrome c and Bax was upregulated, while that of Bcl-2 was downregulated in the vehicle group compared with that in the control group. However, EERV treatment inhibited the expression of cytochrome c and Bax, while that of Bcl-2 was improved. CONCLUSION Standardized EERV could be a beneficial candidate for the treatment of dry eye disease
The effect of low temperature aging on the mechanical property & phase stability of Y-TZP ceramics
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM. Recently Yttrium-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (Y-TZP) has been introduced due to superior flexural
strength and fracture toughness compared to other dental ceramic systems. Although zirconia has outstanding mechanical properties, the
phenomenon of decrease in the life-time of zirconia resulted from degradation in flexural strength after low temperature aging has been reported.
PURPOSE. The objective of this study was to investigate degradation of flexural strength of Y-TZP ceramics after various low temperature
aging treatments and to evaluate the phase stability and micro-structural change after aging by using X-ray diffraction analysis and a scanning
electron microscope (SEM). MATERIAL AND METHODS. Y-TZP blocks of Vita In-Ceram YZ (Vita Zahnfabrik, Bad Sa ¨ckingen,
Germany) were prepared in 40 mm (length) x 4 mm (width) x 3 mm (height) samples. Specimens were artificially aged in distilled water by heattreatment
at a temperature of 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200, and 225℃ for 10 hours, in order to induce the phase transformation at the surface.
To measure the mechanical property, the specimens were subjected to a four-point bending test using a universal testing machine (Instron model
3365; Instron, Canton, Mass, USA). In addition, X-ray diffraction analysis (DMAX 2500; Rigaku, Tokyo, Japan) and SEM (Hitachi s4700; Jeol
Ltd, Tokyo, Japan) were performed to estimate the phase transformation. The statistical analysis was done using SAS 9.1.3 (SAS institute,
USA). The flexural strength data of the experimental groups were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and to detect statistically significant
differences (α= .05). RESULTS. The mean flexural strength of sintered Vita In-Ceram YZ without autoclaving was 798 MPa. When applied
aging temperature at below 125℃ for 10 hours, the flexural strength of Vita In-Ceram YZ increased up to 1,161 MPa. However, at above 150℃,
the flexural strength started to decrease. Although low temperature aging caused the tetragonal-to-monoclinic phase transformation related
to temperature, the minimum flexural strength was above 700 MPa. CONCLUSION. The monoclinic phase started to appear after aging treatment
above 100℃. With the higher aging temperature, the fraction of monoclinic phase increased. The ratio of monoclinic/tetragonal + monoclinic
phase reached a plateau value, circa 75% above 175℃. The point of monoclinic concentration at which the flexural strength begins to

Evaluation of protective effect of cyclodextrin glucanotransferase-treated Gastrodia elata Blume extract on ultraviolet B-induced premature skin aging
Purpose: To investigate the protective effect of Gastrodia elata Blume (G. elata, GE) and cyclodextrin glucanotransferase (CGTase) enzyme-treated G. elata extract (EGE) against premature skin aging using ultraviolet B (UVB)-exposed normal human dermal fibroblasts (NHDFs).Methods: The extract was characterized by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC–QToF–MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). The expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-1,3), interleukin-6 (IL-6), transforming growth factor (TGF-β1) and procollagen type I was assayed using ELISA kits. Safety evaluation of EGE’s dietary administration and topical application was performed by in vivo acute oral toxicity and local lymph node tests.Results: Lower MMP-1 and IL-6 and higher procollagen type I and TGF-β1 levels were observed after treatment with EGE than with GE, indicating that EGE was more effective than GE in treating UVBinduced photoaging. With respect to phenolic composition, EGE had lower 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde (4- HBA) level and higher α-gastrodin level than GE. In UVB-irradiated NHDFs, α-gastrodin exhibited higher anti-aging activity than 4-HBA and β-gastrodin based on the expression of MMP-1, MMP-3, and procollagen type I. The in vivo data indicate that EGE was safe at concentrations of up to 2000 mg/kg for dietary administration and 0.1 % for topical application.Conclusion: EGE protects UVB-induced photoaged human skin better than GE owing to its higher α- gastrodin content. The Nuclear Matrix Protein, NRP/B, Acts as a Transcriptional Repressor of E2F-mediated Transcriptional Activity
Background: NRP/B, a family member of the BTB/Kelch repeat proteins, is implicated in neuronal and cancer development, as well as the regulation of oxidative stress responses in breast and brain cancer. Our previous studies indicate that the NRP/B-BTB/POZ domain is involved in the dimerization of NRP/B and in a complex formation with the tumor suppressor, retinoblastoma protein. Although much evidence supports the potential role of NRP/B as a tumor suppressor, the molecular mechanisms of NRP/B action on E2F transcription factors have not been elucidated. Methods: Three-dimensional modeling of NRP/B was used to generate point mutations in the BTB/Kelch domains. Tet-on inducible NRP/B expression was established. The NRP/B deficient breast cancer cell line, MDA-MB-231, was generated using lentiviral shNRP/B to evaluate the effect of NRP/B on cell proliferation, invasion and migration. Immunoprecipitation was performed to verify the interaction of NRP/B with E2F and histone deacetylase (HDAC-1), and the expression level of NRP/B protein was analyzed by Western blot analysis. Changes in cell cycle were determined by flow cytometry. Transcriptional activities of E2F transcription factors were measured by chloramphenicol acetyltransferase (CAT) activity. Results: Ectopic overexpression of NRP/B demonstrated that the NRP/B-BTB/POZ domain plays a critical role in E2F-mediated transcriptional activity. Point mutations within the BTB/POZ domain restored E2-promoter activity inhibited by NRP/B. Loss of NRP/B enhanced the proliferation and migration of breast cancer cells. Endogenous NRP/B interacted with E2F and HDAC1. Treatement with an HDAC inhibitor, trichostatin A (TSA), abolished the NRP/B-mediated suppression of E2-promoter activity. Gain or loss of NRP/B in HeLa cells confirmed the transcriptional repressive capability of NRP/B on the E2F target genes, Cyclin E and HsORC (Homo sapiens Origin Recognition Complex). Conclusions: The present study shows that NRP/B acts as a transcriptional repressor by interacting with the co-repressors, HDAC1, providing new insight into the molecular mechanisms of NRP/B on tumor suppression
