    RDF-Based Data Integration for Workflow Systems

    To meet the requirements of interoperability, the enactment of workflow systems for processes should tackle the problem of data integration for effective data sharing and exchange. This paper aims at flexibly describing workflow entities and relationships by innovative ontology engineering, which are emerging in process-centred environments, supported by Resource Description Framework (RDF) based languages and tools. Our novel framework takes into consideration to position the ontology level in the data integration dimension. Having taken a more realistic approach towards interoperability, we present basic constructs of a workflow specific ontology, with a suite of classes and properties selectively created. In particular, we demonstrate an example description of Event Condition Action (ECA) rules by extensions of RDF. As an inter-lingua, the proposed vocabulary and semantics can be mapped onto other process description languages as well as the simple XML-based data representation of our earlier workflow prototype

    Inverse Projection Representation and Category Contribution Rate for Robust Tumor Recognition

    Sparse representation based classification (SRC) methods have achieved remarkable results. SRC, however, still suffer from requiring enough training samples, insufficient use of test samples and instability of representation. In this paper, a stable inverse projection representation based classification (IPRC) is presented to tackle these problems by effectively using test samples. An IPR is firstly proposed and its feasibility and stability are analyzed. A classification criterion named category contribution rate is constructed to match the IPR and complete classification. Moreover, a statistical measure is introduced to quantify the stability of representation-based classification methods. Based on the IPRC technique, a robust tumor recognition framework is presented by interpreting microarray gene expression data, where a two-stage hybrid gene selection method is introduced to select informative genes. Finally, the functional analysis of candidate's pathogenicity-related genes is given. Extensive experiments on six public tumor microarray gene expression datasets demonstrate the proposed technique is competitive with state-of-the-art methods.Comment: 14 pages, 19 figures, 10 table

    Adaptive multimodal continuous ant colony optimization

    Seeking multiple optima simultaneously, which multimodal optimization aims at, has attracted increasing attention but remains challenging. Taking advantage of ant colony optimization algorithms in preserving high diversity, this paper intends to extend ant colony optimization algorithms to deal with multimodal optimization. First, combined with current niching methods, an adaptive multimodal continuous ant colony optimization algorithm is introduced. In this algorithm, an adaptive parameter adjustment is developed, which takes the difference among niches into consideration. Second, to accelerate convergence, a differential evolution mutation operator is alternatively utilized to build base vectors for ants to construct new solutions. Then, to enhance the exploitation, a local search scheme based on Gaussian distribution is self-adaptively performed around the seeds of niches. Together, the proposed algorithm affords a good balance between exploration and exploitation. Extensive experiments on 20 widely used benchmark multimodal functions are conducted to investigate the influence of each algorithmic component and results are compared with several state-of-the-art multimodal algorithms and winners of competitions on multimodal optimization. These comparisons demonstrate the competitive efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, especially in dealing with complex problems with high numbers of local optima

    Probing higher-spin particles with gravitational waves from compact binary inspirals

    Under the framework of gravitational effective field theory, we propose a theory agnostic strategy of searching for higher-spin particles with gravitational waves from compact binary inspirals. Using this strategy, we analyze gravitational wave signals from the binary black hole merger events GW151226 and GW170608, as well as the binary neutron star merger event GW170817. We find that the existence of higher-spin particles with mass ranged from 10βˆ’12eV10^{-12} {\rm eV} to 10βˆ’11eV10^{-11} {\rm eV} is strongly disfavored by these events unless the particles precisely combine within a supersymmetric supermultiplet. We argue that the gravitational effective field theory also provides a framework to search for signals beyond GR from other GW observations, such as extreme-mass-ratio-inspirals.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figure

    Ovarian cancer initially presenting with isolated ipsilateral superficial inguinal lymph node metastasis: a case study and review of the literature

    Isolated superficial inguinal metastases without any extended intra-abdominal spread is a rare event in patients with ovarian carcinoma. Here we report an isolated superficial inguinal metastasis in a patient with primary ovarian cancer. A 54-year-old Chinese patient with primary ovarian cancer, had an isolated painless enlarged right groin swelling (3Γ—2cm) as the only manifestation, preoperative pathology confirmed metastatic adenocarcinoma. Gynecologic examination, transvaginal ultrasonography of the abdominopelvic cavity revealed a 5-cm mixed, right adnexal mass. At exploratory laparotomy, there was little intra-abdominal tumor dissemination but 100 ml of faint yellow peritoneal fluid and a 5-cm right ovarian tumor with intact capsule. Staging operation was performed and postoperative pathology confirmed adenocarcinoma located within right ovarian, with no evidence of involvement of other sites. Then the patient received adjuvant chemotherapy for Stage IVB. Five years later, the patient is currently still alive without evidence of recurrent disease. This case indicate that ovarian carcinoma isn’t a disease localized only within the intra-peritoneal cavity, isolated superficial inguinal lymph node metastasis might occur in rare cases via potential lymphatic and (or) hematogenous route under special conditions. We propose the need to investigate the possible mechanisms, risk factors, metastatic patterns, the biology and natural history of such patients in a large-scale and multicenter analysis. Furthermore, efforts should be made for earlier and differential diagnosis and finally prolong survival time for such patients
