Two-gap and paramagnetic pair-breaking effects on upper critical field of SmFeAsO and SmFeAsOF single crystals
We investigated the temperature dependence of the upper critical field
[] of fluorine-free SmFeAsO and fluorine-doped
SmFeAsOF single crystals by measuring the resistive transition
in low static magnetic fields and in pulsed fields up to 60 T. Both crystals
show that 's along the c axis [] and in an -planar
direction [] exhibit a linear and a sublinear increase,
respectively, with decreasing temperature below the superconducting transition.
's in both directions deviate from the conventional one-gap
Werthamer-Helfand-Hohenberg theoretical prediction at low temperatures. A
two-gap nature and the paramagnetic pair-breaking effect are shown to be
responsible for the temperature-dependent behavior of and

Supersymetry on the Noncommutative Lattice
Built upon the proposal of Kaplan et.al. [hep-lat/0206109], we construct
noncommutative lattice gauge theory with manifest supersymmetry. We show that
such theory is naturally implementable via orbifold conditions generalizing
those used by Kaplan {\sl et.al.} We present the prescription in detail and
illustrate it for noncommutative gauge theories latticized partially in two
dimensions. We point out a deformation freedom in the defining theory by a
complex-parameter, reminiscent of discrete torsion in string theory. We show
that, in the continuum limit, the supersymmetry is enhanced only at a
particular value of the deformation parameter, determined solely by the size of

Size Dependence of Metal-Insulator Transition in Stoichiometric Fe3O4 Nanocrystals
Magnetite (Fe3O4) is one of the most actively studied materials with a famous
metal-insulator transition (MIT), so-called the Verwey transition at around 123
K. Despite the recent progress in synthesis and characterization of Fe3O4
nanocrystals (NCs), it is still an open question how the Verwey transition
changes on a nanometer scale. We herein report the systematic studies on size
dependence of the Verwey transition of stoichiometric Fe3O4 NCs. We have
successfully synthesized stoichiometric and uniform-sized Fe3O4 NCs with sizes
ranging from 5 to 100 nm. These stoichiometric Fe3O4 NCs show the Verwey
transition when they are characterized by conductance, magnetization, cryo-XRD,
and heat capacity measurements. The Verwey transition is weakly size-dependent
and becomes suppressed in NCs smaller than 20 nm before disappearing completely
for less than 6 nm, which is a clear, yet highly interesting indication of a
size effect of this well-known phenomena. Our current work will shed new light

Correlation of Fe-Based Superconductivity and Electron-Phonon Coupling in an FeAs/Oxide Heterostructure
Interfacial phonons between iron-based superconductors (FeSCs) and perovskite substrates have received considerable attention due to the possibility of enhancing preexisting superconductivity. Using scanning tunneling spectroscopy, we studied the correlation between superconductivity and e−ph interaction with interfacial phonons in an iron-based superconductor Sr2VO3FeAs (Tc≈33 K) made of alternating FeSC and oxide layers. The quasiparticle interference measurement over regions with systematically different average superconducting gaps due to the e−ph coupling locally modulated by O vacancies in the VO2 layer, and supporting self-consistent momentum-dependent Eliashberg calculations provide a unique real-space evidence of the forward-scattering interfacial phonon contribution to the total superconducting pairing. © 2017 American Physical Society6
Role of ethambutol and rifampicin in the treatment of Mycobacterium avium complex pulmonary disease
Abstract
Background
A three-drug regimen (macrolide, ethambutol, and rifampicin) is recommended for the treatment of Mycobacterium avium complex pulmonary disease (MAC-PD). Although macrolide has proven efficacy, the role of ethambutol and rifampicin in patients without acquired immune deficiency syndrome is not proven with clinical studies. We aimed to clarify the roles of ethambutol and rifampicin in the treatment of MAC-PD.
Methods
Patients treated for MAC-PD between March 1st, 2009 and October 31st, 2018 were reviewed retrospectively. Rates of culture conversion, microbiological cure, treatment failure, and recurrence were compared according to the maintenance (≥6 months) of ethambutol or rifampicin with macrolide.
Results
Among the 237 patients, 122 (51.5%) maintained ethambutol and rifampicin with macrolide, 58 (24.5%) maintained ethambutol and macrolide, 32 (13.5%) maintained rifampicin and macrolide, and 25 (10.6%) maintained macrolide only. Culture conversion was reached for 190/237 (80.2%) patients and microbiological cure was achieved for 129/177 (72.9%) who completed the treatment. Treatment failure despite ≥12 months of treatment was observed in 66/204 (32.4%), and recurrence was identified in 16/129 (12.4%) who achieved microbiological cure. Compared with maintenance of macrolide only, maintenance of ethambutol, rifampicin or both with macrolide were associated with higher odds of culture conversion [odds ratio (OR), 95% confidence interval (CI): 18.06, 3.67–88.92; 15.82, 2.38–105.33; and 17.12, 3.93–74.60, respectively]. Higher odds of microbiological cure were associated with maintenance of both ethambutol and rifampicin with macrolide (OR, 95% CI: 5.74, 1.54–21.42) and macrolide and ethambutol (OR, 95% CI: 5.12, 1.72–15.24) but not macrolide and rifampicin. Maintenance of both ethambutol and rifampicin with macrolide was associated with lower odds of treatment failure (OR, 95% CI: 0.09, 0.01–0.53) compared with macrolide only, while maintenance of one of these with macrolide was not. Maintenance of both ethambutol and rifampicin or one of these with macrolide did not decrease the probability of recurrence when compared with macrolide only.
Conclusions
Maintenance (≥6 months) of ethambutol and rifampicin with macrolide was associated with the most favorable treatment outcomes among patients with MAC-PD. Given the association between ongoing ethambutol use and microbiological cure, clinicians should maintain ethambutol unless definite adverse events develop
