Constraining short-range spin-dependent forces with polarized helium 3 at the Laue-Langevin Institute
We have searched for a short-range spin-dependent interaction mediated by a
hypothetical light scalar boson with CP-violating couplings to the neutron
using the spin relaxation of hyperpolarized He. The walls of the He

Kinetic Antiferromagnetism in the Triangular Lattice
We show that the motion of a single hole in the infinite Hubbard model
with frustrated hopping leads to weak metallic antiferromagnetism of kinetic
origin. An intimate relationship is demonstrated between the simplest versions
of this problem in 1 and 2 dimensions, and two of the most subtle many body
problems, namely the Heisenberg Bethe ring in 1-d and the 2-dimensional

Stochastic Model for the Motion of a Particle on an Inclined Rough Plane and the Onset of Viscous Friction
Experiments on the motion of a particle on an inclined rough plane have
yielded some surprising results. For example, it was found that the frictional
force acting on the ball is viscous, {\it i.e.} proportional to the velocity
rather than the expected square of the velocity. It was also found that, for a
given inclination of the plane, the velocity of the ball scales as a power of
its radius. We present here a one dimensional stochastic model based on the
microscopic equations of motion of the ball, which exhibits the same behaviour
as the experiments. This model yields a mechanism for the origins of the
viscous friction force and the scaling of the velocity with the radius. It also
reproduces other aspects of the phase diagram of the motion which we will

Small Angle Scattering by Fractal Aggregates: A Numerical Investigation of the Crossover Between the Fractal Regime and the Porod Regime
Fractal aggregates are built on a computer using off-lattice cluster-cluster
aggregation models. The aggregates are made of spherical particles of different
sizes distributed according to a Gaussian-like distribution characterised by a
mean and a standard deviation . The wave vector dependent
scattered intensity is computed in order to study the influence of the
particle polydispersity on the crossover between the fractal regime and the
Porod regime. It is shown that, given , the location of the
crossover decreases as increases. The dependence of on
can be understood from the evolution of the shape of the center-to-center

Fluctuating Bond Aggregation: a Model for Chemical Gel Formation
The Diffusion-Limited Cluster-Cluster Aggregation (DLCA) model is modified by
including cluster deformations using the {\it bond fluctuation} algorithm. From
3 computer simulations, it is shown that, below a given threshold value
of the volumic fraction , the realization of all intra-aggregate
bonding possibilities prevents the formation of a gelling network. For ,
the sol-gel transition occurs at a time which, in contrast to DLCA,
doesnot diverge with the box size. Several results are reported including small

Control of Culex pipiens by Bacillus sphaericus and role of nontarget arthropods in its recycling

Quatre traitements à 4 l/ha d'une formulation commerciale (Vectolex R ont réduit la population larvaire de manière durable. On compte de 50 à 600 spores de #B. sphaericus par ml 14 jours après ces traitements. Le recyclage naturel de la bactérie est démontré dans les couches supérieures de l'eau. Magnetic domain wall motion in a nanowire: depinning and creep
The domain wall motion in a magnetic nanowire is examined theoretically in
the regime where the domain wall driving force is weak and its competition
against disorders is assisted by thermal agitations. Two types of driving
forces are considered; magnetic field and current. While the field induces the
domain wall motion through the Zeeman energy, the current induces the domain
wall motion by generating the spin transfer torque, of which effects in this
regime remain controversial. The spin transfer torque has two mutually
orthogonal vector components, the adiabatic spin transfer torque and the
nonadiabatic spin transfer torque. We investigate separate effects of the two
components on the domain wall depinning rate in one-dimensional systems and on
the domain wall creep velocity in two-dimensional systems, both below the
Walker breakdown threshold. In addition to the leading order contribution
coming from the field and/or the nonadiabatic spin transfer torque, we find
that the adiabatic spin transfer torque generates corrections, which can be of
relevance for an unambiguous analysis of experimental results. For instance, it
is demonstrated that the neglect of the corrections in experimental analysis
may lead to incorrect evaluation of the nonadiabaticity parameter. Effects of
the Rashba spin-orbit coupling on the domain wall motion are also analyzed.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figure
Dopant-Bound Spinons in Cu_(1-x)Zn_xGeO_3
Polarized inelastic light scattering experiments on Cu_(1-x)Zn_xGeO_3 (0<= x
0 a new distinct mode at nearly half the
energy of the singlet response below the spin-Peierls transition. The
temperature, magnetic field, polarization, and doping dependencies of this mode
are similar to those of the singlet bound state. The data are interpreted in
terms of a spinon-assisted light scattering process. Position and form of the
peak provide strong evidence for the presence of dopant-bound spinons in
