Social Network Analysis of Global Value Chain: Focused on Fabric Cotton
Companies try to establishing optimal production networks that can perform all stages of production activities at competitive cost and quality around the world. In this study, we try to determine the structure of the global value chain in the apparel industry using social network analysis. Data for analysis were created a matrix using 2005 and 2015 trade data about the top 10 trading partners in the import and export countries of cotton fabric (hs code 5208, 5209). China was the largest exporting country. Comparing the betweenness centrality and closeness centrality of exports of cotton fabrics, India and China are playing their role as mediating countries. Vietnamese cotton imports have increased significantly. The role of mediators in the importation of cotton fiber was continued by China, the United States, and European countries. We identified the part of the fashion industry structure by investigating the international trade patterns of cotton fabric
Capturing scattered discriminative information using a deep architecture in acoustic scene classification
Frequently misclassified pairs of classes that share many common acoustic
properties exist in acoustic scene classification (ASC). To distinguish such
pairs of classes, trivial details scattered throughout the data could be vital
clues. However, these details are less noticeable and are easily removed using
conventional non-linear activations (e.g. ReLU). Furthermore, making design
choices to emphasize trivial details can easily lead to overfitting if the
system is not sufficiently generalized. In this study, based on the analysis of
the ASC task's characteristics, we investigate various methods to capture
discriminative information and simultaneously mitigate the overfitting problem.
We adopt a max feature map method to replace conventional non-linear
activations in a deep neural network, and therefore, we apply an element-wise
comparison between different filters of a convolution layer's output. Two data
augment methods and two deep architecture modules are further explored to
reduce overfitting and sustain the system's discriminative power. Various
experiments are conducted using the detection and classification of acoustic
scenes and events 2020 task1-a dataset to validate the proposed methods. Our
results show that the proposed system consistently outperforms the baseline,
where the single best performing system has an accuracy of 70.4% compared to
65.1% of the baseline.Comment: Submitted to DCASE2020 worksho
HRT, Herbal Formula, Induces G 2
We have demonstrated the anticancer effect of HRT in HCT116, human colon carcinoma cells. HRT inhibited cancer cell growth by causing cell cycle arrest at G2/M and inducing apoptosis as evidenced by DNA fragmentation assay. We found that HRT induces the activation of caspase-3, -8, and -9, whereas it reduces the level of Bcl-2 protein and results in the cleavage of PARP. Further, HRT decreased the level of phosphorylation of Akt and its downstream signals such as mTOR and GSK-3β. These results indicate that HRT stimulates the apoptotic signaling pathway and represses the survival and proliferation of colon cancer cells via inhibiting Akt activity. Hence, our results suggest that HRT has a potential to be developed as a therapeutic agent against colon cancer cells
Impact of mechanical stretch on the cell behaviors of bone and surrounding tissues
Mechanical loading is recognized to play an important role in regulating the behaviors of cells in bone and surrounding tissues in vivo. Many in vitro studies have been conducted to determine the effects of mechanical loading on individual cell types of the tissues. In this review, we focus specifically on the use of the Flexercell system as a tool for studying cellular responses to mechanical stretch. We assess the literature describing the impact of mechanical stretch on different cell types from bone, muscle, tendon, ligament, and cartilage, describing individual cell phenotype responses. In addition, we review evidence regarding the mechanotransduction pathways that are activated to potentiate these phenotype responses in different cell populations
Perception of precocious puberty among school-aged children in South Korea with the experience of treatment for precocious puberty: a Q methodological approach
Purpose This study aimed to investigate the perceptions of precocious puberty and elucidate the distinct characteristics of each type of perception related to precocious puberty among school-aged children who had undergone treatment for the condition. Methods This study applied the Q methodology to identify and classify the perceptions of precocious puberty among school-aged children who had undergone treatment for the condition. The analysis involved 34 questions from the Q sample and data from 35 individuals in the P sample, using the PC-QUANL Program for analysis. Results The perceptions of precocious puberty among school-aged children who had undergone precocious puberty treatment were classified into the following four types: "shyness - passive self-management," "resentment - suppression," "anxiety - fear," and "adaptation - acceptance." Conclusion This study investigated the experiences and perceptions of children who have undergone treatment for precocious puberty. Through the identification of four types of perceptions, we can see that there is a need to develop an intervention program for nursing that is tailored to the specific type of precocious puberty
