Youth livelihood outcomes (YLO) are important factors in the development of sustainable community livelihoods in Kenya.  The purpose of the study was to determine the predictors of urban youth livelihood outcomes in Nairobi, Kenya. The study was guided by the General Systems Theory by Bertalanffy (1968) and the Department for International Development (DFID) livelihoods framework (1999). A survey of 206 youths was conducted in Kamukunji Sub-County in Nairobi County. Results showed that there was a significant relationship between individual attributes and youth livelihood outcomes (χ2= 44.47; d.f. =14; ρ<0.01). Specifically, age (p<0.05), marital status (p<0.05), household headship (p<0.01), individual savings (p<0.05), individual assets (p<0.01) were important predictors of youth livelihood outcomes. Implications for formulating appropriate intervention programs to enhance youth livelihood outcomes are included. This dissertation with the title: “Christian Witness and Orthodox Pneumatology in Africa: the Dynamics of Orthodox Pneumatology as Mission Paradigm in Orthodox Mission in Kenya”, is an academic case study of Orthodox Church in Kenya. Following the results of the case study, the project proofs how pneumatological paradigm as a theological oriented approach (if applied) would be the most creative and resourceful mission method today. The main objective and aim of this study is to provide a concrete theological approach to orthodox mission field especially in Africa. This project provides an argument how classical mission paradigms should be dropped and a paradigm which is theological, dynamic and creative as well as genuine to the Οrthodox tradition be applied. The application of such a paradigm would definitely mean bringing back the very meaning of Christian mission which is sharing and witnessing God’s love to His creation. In this dissertation Qualitative Research Method has been used. It is one of the most successful methods used in cultural anthropology especially when studying cultural behavior, cultural knowledge and cultural artefacts. Although this project is not an Ethnographical research, this method has been used because of its cultural anthropological nature which is becoming important in theological studies and in particular in missiology where theology is meeting ‘new’ cultures.Η παρούσα διατριβή, με τίτλο: “Η Χριστιανική Μαρτυρία και η Ορθόδοξη Πνευματολογία στην Αφρική: η Δυναμική της Ορθόδοξης Πνευματολογίας ως Παράδειγμα στην Ορθόδοξη Ιεραποστολή της Κένυας”, αποτελεί μια ακαδημαϊκή έρευνα στην Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία της Κένυας.

Historical epidemiology of hepatitis C virus in select countries-volume 4

    No full text
Due to the introduction of newer, more efficacious treatment options, there is a pressing need for policy makers and public health officials to develop or adapt national hepatitis C virus (HCV) control strategies to the changing epidemiological landscape. To do so, detailed, country-specific data are needed to characterize the burden of chronic HCV infection. In this study of 17 countries, a literature review of published and unpublished data on HCV prevalence, viraemia, genotype, age and gender distribution, liver transplants and diagnosis and treatment rates was conducted, and inputs were validated by expert consensus in each country. Viraemic prevalence in this study ranged from 0.2% in Hong Kong to 2.4% in Taiwan, while the largest viraemic populations were in Nigeria (2 597 000 cases) and Taiwan (569 000 cases). Diagnosis, treatment and liver transplant rates varied widely across the countries included in this analysis, as did the availability of reliable data. Addressing data gaps will be critical for the development of future strategies to manage and minimize the disease burden of hepatitis
